It was a great moment! The stage work was abysmal. There should have been hostesses (or whatever) beforehand saying, "O.k., here's your water, here to your right." (Which it was.) And the sound work. Yikes.

Weeks ago The Atlantic sold its archive to one of the AI companies. Something that temporarily props up a failing media company. Such foolishness. AI users will have the entire catalogue at hand - which will get dredged by competitors.

25 I've been reading the other stories in the anthology, All Will Burn: At All Costs with my tale in it. Mostly they're science fiction, which makes me wonder how mine wound up in there. I guess you could class a story about alternate realities and beings from another reality changing our timelines as SF, though. The editors did a pretty good job, though one story (the overall poorest I've read so far) needed a little more copy-editing.

None at all. This one is third person, with very little humor. However, I do have a couple of mystery novels that I'm preparing to put up on Amazon, and they do have that breezy, truly American kind of narration with actual funny dialog. Not really "cozies" as those are defined today -- but definitely not grim serial killer stories.

Thank you, sir! Yes, Raconteur Press has been putting out anthologies, one a month for some time now, and I think they're getting a good rep. I want to be in their next, which is called "Wyrd West," and am studying the other stories in this one to get more of a handle on what they want. They seem to like action. At least two in this bunch have some military SF to them.

By the way, the Mandina's card has been happily consumed!

They darted to that position rather quickly.

107 >Amazon is quietly killing a whole list of "devops" services.

This is what I do for a living, and I've never heard of most of these. It sounds like they just got outcompeted by Microsoft.

108 It would not be surprising to see Zen 5 at those prices. Remember it is being built on the same node as Zen 4, and they've managed to make them use less silicon in the process.

With the Raptor Lake debacle, Meteor Lake's disappointing performance and questions on whether Lunar Lake or Arrow Lake will show up on time, this is the time for AMD to push for consumer and laptop market share.

APUs in particular are probably how AMD is going to gain Radeon support, simply by wiping out the sub $200 market for GPUs and low end to mid range dgpus for laptop.

109 AMD sounds like they've had a test escape. Been there, done that, got the lumps to prove it. Not terribly uncommon, but I'm glad they caught it before official release. Much cheaper to them than having to deal with customer returns.

But I agree: the APU stuff is going to really hammer Intel on the laptop and minicomputer scene. Well, that and having a working chip. That Intel clusterf* with the overvoltaging is serious; BTI effects can be mitigated a little, but most overvoltage effects like hot-e are cumulative, uncurable, and massively amplified by higher temperatures.

110 Intel’s on a long, long road to recovery, and over 15,000 workers will no longer be coming along for the ride. The chipmaker just announced it’s downsizing its workforce by over 15 percent as part of a new $10 billion cost savings plan for 2025, which will mean a headcount reduction of greater than 15,000 roles, Intel tells The Verge. The company currently employs over 125,000 workers, so layoffs could be as many as 19,000 people.
