The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

"We want to get his perspective on what he observed," Kevin Rojek, the special agent in charge of the FBI's Pittsburgh field office
I certainly hope President Trump has his attorney by his side.

Quote II

"Satan makes nothing: only he ruins everything. He does not invent: he tampers. And his followers are no different: they humiliate woman’s femininity in order to erase the motherhood that recalls the Virgin Mother; they castrate man’s manhood in order to tear from the image of God’s fatherhood; they corrupt the little ones in order to kill in them and make them victims of the most abject wokeism." Italian Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò - the former papal nuncio to the United States

Buck Throckmorton had an excellent thread this morning about the Ford Motor Company. Not only is Ford going down the EV swirling toilet, they want to be snitches.

Ford patented tech that would have a vehicle report a driver for speeding

The patent said vehicles would monitor other vehicles using onboard cameras
It's unclear what legal argument Ford would make for the tech if implemented
Ford is trying to patent a way for its cars to report speeding drivers to the police.

How much money has to be stolen before anyone notices?

A former California public school district official was sentenced to over five years in prison Thursday after officials found he embezzled nearly $16.7 million from the district over the years — hiding stacks of cash in a small refrigerator.

Jorge Armando Contreras, 53, who previously worked as the senior director of fiscal services at the Magnolia School District, a public school district that serves Anaheim and Stanton, faced his judgement Thursday in Santa Ana court.

He was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison and ordered to pay $16,694,942 in restitution, the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Central District of California said in a news release.

He had pleaded guilty in March to one count of embezzlement, theft and intentional misapplication of funds from an organization receiving federal funds.

Japan shocks the world with the first motorcycle neither electric nor gasoline: New fuel and a futuristic concept

EVs are the future thanks to brands like Tesla or BYD, but let’s not forget that there are new alternative fuels that are reaching far beyond. Japan has just reminded us that Musk doesn’t have sustainable mobility in his hands with the first motorcycle that is neither electric nor gasoline-powered. Do you know how it works? Just a few words: It runs on something better and more futuristic. Will we see it soon in America? We’ll explain all the details, and we’ll let you know that you’re not expecting which brand has developed it.

And just like that, influential no more.

A young girl died while taking selfies for her TikTok followers at the top of a waterfall after falling in and drowning while trapped between two rocks.

Moe Sa Nay, 14, was posing for snaps with her friends to share with her 150,000 social media followers when she slipped on the wet stones at the Sinywa Waterfall in south-east Myanmar on July 22.

The teen was swept away downstream by the fast-flowing current and her body was left jammed between two large boulders.

Brain-Invading Parasite Could Be Hacked to Deliver Meds in Your Head

A parasite that is able to cross the blood-brain barrier to infect the brains of its hosts could one day be a means of delivering important therapeutics.

Toxoplasma gondii – a parasite that thrives in nearly all warm-blooded life on Earth – could be engineered to deliver therapeutic proteins to cells in the brain, providing treatment options for conditions that are difficult to access.

Flight Canceled After Steward Has Epic Meltdown Over Blanket Requests

“Go back to your seat now! Or you’re getting off,” shouted a flight supervisor of a recently canceled Air Canada flight after one passenger was seen stepping up to defend another from the employee’s verbal assault in a viral clip recorded moments before take-off.

The altercation occurred after a passenger asked an attendant for a blanket because of excessive air conditioning, leading to a discussion not seen on camera that caused said employee to call for her supervisor.

45 Donald Trump May Replace JD Vance Within 10 Days--Chuck Schumer. Source: Newsweek
speculation has continued grow as the senator has been met with backlash and bad press amid resurfaced remarks in which he said the United States is run by "childless cat ladies" during an interview with Fox News in 2021. However, those reports have continued to be denied by Trump's campaign and Trump himself.

Well played Chuck. His comment is intended to keep Vance on the ticket. Trump hates Schumer. Even if it's true, who else would they pick? The puppy-killer? It's all garbage all the way down.

Removing Vance from the ticket is an admission that that Trump is an old man who couldn't even get it right in selecting a VP for the ticket. Trump will never admit that he screwed up.

Democrats need to use the Vance pick as evidence of Trump's incompetence. It will drive him crazy. Trump has only a few weeks to decide before the ballots go for printing. So if he is going to do it, will need to be soon.

A nominee that makes these kinds of mistakes is not fit to hold the office of the presidency. How many other decisions is Trump going to make that he regrets?

That's going to be a problem in Michigan where it is assumed that you go about 10 MPH over the speed limit on expressways. I had a coworker whose husband was a cop. I told her that the police don't look at ticketing you unless you are 10 MPH over the limit. She said that actually they consider it if you are 8 over.

232 Piper, I'm not as worried about the food being pleasing to the eye so much as pleasing to my health AND my pocketbook. (newly on social security, and determined to live within it to conserve my capital until I decide what I want to do with widowhood)
Meat has become a flavoring and a garnish, unless on sale.
Tuna is great protein, and eggs. Beans and rice are great too, whether latin-flavored or asian.
Where I go nuts are the salads: various greens, little tomatoes, cukes, onions, dried cranberries (also better in oatmeal cookies than raisins--too sweet!), various vinaigrettes, cheese and some meat or fish if it's going to be a meal salad.
I don't buy or make it unless I'm going to eat it all, but I don't mind leftovers.
Sweets, I bake because it's cheaper (and GOOD!) Oatmeal/cranberry/choc chip often, rice pudding (sometimes with cranberries--I make the swedish recipe I got from my MIL, and while I don't eat it hot with lingonberry jam, tossing a coupe handfuls of dried crans in the custard before it bakes is very good, at least IMO.)

238 “Speed checked by aircraft” is another way. They have paint markers or whatever on the highway and measured distance and time. Radio comms with trooper up ahead. Instant ticket.

One time out in South Dakota during the 55 era I decided to blow the cobs out for a while and floored it for about 5 or 10 miles, probably 120 mph. 55 seems like you could get out and walk.

Anyway I left off the gas and drove all legal like at the next exit and got a really dirty look from somebody, I think they was fixin’ to write a nice ticket and I must have missed it by that much.

Totally get it. Watch your tuna intake because of mercury. Don’t be dissuaded from buying white fish filets that are flash frozen, they are economical and healthy. Also, don’t get wound up with organic chicken breast, etc. frankly, chicken thighs are economical and great protein, you can rip the skin off yourself and save even more. Ground chicken, ground turkey, ground beef are all fine. A meat serving is the size of your palm. Your grain (rice, couscous, etc) is the size of your fist. The rest of your plate is veggies. Frozen veggies are just fine, too, as is frozen fruit. We end up meatless 2 or 3 times a week not by design or on purpose, but it’s just how it happens.

I make wild rice and stretch it with a handful of white rice about halfway through the boil (wild rice cooks in about 40 minutes versus 20 minutes for white). Nice side dish for grilled salmon or lamb.

329 Today's adventure was to fire up the old '47 Flxible coach. I had the battery charge on it for about 20 hours. Went out, crossed the necessary wires, and that sweet old 903 Cummins lit off first piston up. No go-go juice needed.

Got the air pressure up, no leaks; fixed them the last time. Got the maxi brake released, spent some time finding reverse gear, and eventually found it, and backed out of the ruts it had made over the winter. Drove up to the shop; figured I'd air up the tires if any needed it. All but the outside dually on the driver's side were good, but that one had a huge hole in the tube. Would not hold air at all. Put a jack under the leaf spring, and lifted the left rear wheel about an inch. Brought out the 3/4" drive air impact, and after a LOT of rattling, got the ten lug nuts off. Took the bad wheel into the tire shop. They said they can fix it.

Came home, and did a little body work on the front corner of the the coach. Because it is there. Got the driver's side fresh-air vent working like new.

After politics, McGovern and his wife opened a B&B in Connecticut.

Failed because of taxes and regulations.

McGovern wrote about it, the scales fell from his eyes late in life.

"While I never doubted the worthiness of any of these goals, the concept that most often eludes legislators is: ‘Can we make consumers pay the higher prices for the increased operating costs that accompany public regulation and government reporting requirements with reams of red tape.’ It is a simple concern that is nonetheless often ignored by legislators."

Regulations always require businesses to do things, make payments, file paperwork, additional construction, etc., in a time frame that is simply undoable for government.

This is why the Chevron decision is huge. No eggspurts can make law, only Congress. And they can''t agree on much of anything except maybe Cheatle being gone. So Congress won't be doing much. And looking at what's goihg on and who's in charge (Bueller? Anyone?), I'm good with that.

384 My only regret for Rush is that they didn't break up in 1990 or so, form three more bands with fresh, new influences, and reunite every other year to perform all their good music -- which was all, in my opinion, from before 1990.

Neil, Alex, and Geddy in three separate new groups would have sparked a fire that had all but been extinguished by 1990.

I saw them for the Roll the Bones tour in Worcester. We had a whole cigarette pack full of bones we had rolled, all exactly the size of cigarettes. Every one we lit, passed, and never saw again.

He said that his family told him, why that is chickenfeed and he replied that it is chicken feed which makes the chicken fat. That sounds like Mark Twain to me, but anyway he died a weathy man.

Hydrogen has some benefits where it is applicable as a fuel source, and these are the fact that it has a high energy density and very low emissions.

Para 2:
But there is one disadvantage to using hydrogen fuel: storage and transportation of the hydrogen fuel. Hydrogen has a lower energy density as compared to gasoline.

Make up your mind. In fact it's lousy as a fuel as far as energy density.
Now tell us how long the engine lasts before it becomes too brittle.

Outside of polling, I'm waiting for their campaign to do something. The ralliies aren't even filling high school gyms. These two zoom calls haven't even been attended by her, and she has been fine two golden opportunities to show she can be Presidential and she's done nothing.

Obama didn't want her but Joey -- or Jilly -- pulled off one last 'fuck you' to the eloquent black man whom he hates. And who hates him. 'You wanna stop me from runnin', boy? Cornpop couldn't stop me from runnin'. But anyway, so here, boy, here's your new candidate. She's got my endorsement. Choke on that.' Took Barry a few days to swallow that and give her his endorsement. But it's all for show. Once her unfavorables hit the the Dem insiders like a ton of bricks, just as Joey's did, she'll get tossed aside at the convention, with her payoff being given the green light to kick Joey out with the 25th and become 47. But no second bite for her. A 7 month president, no matter what. She'll go down in history breaking the pink ceiling -- and also breaking Hillary.

We only remember now that McGovern was crushed, but that entire summer the Left was absolutely giddy with excitement at the fact that one of their own was running.

I had a paper route so I could eat plus I got to sleep in the paper shack as long as I killed the rats. It was a heady time when we looked out for each other: the pancake house gave me free hot chocolate and the 7-11 next door gave me a 20% discount on Marlboros. Looking back it was obvious that McGovern was a homo and that Humphrey grew up on a diet of Jello salads and Bologna Raman cakes long before both became fashionable in the mid 1970s.
