The Classical Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

rise-shine-202001170Adaily-man-up-20200116-1010.jpg

I bet the coffee was anything but awful..............

Good morning Horde. Here we are again on another Saturday morning. Before we get to Annie's hard work with the Prayer Request List just a few house keeping matters to go over. (Rulz for those of you in Kenosha)

1) This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate away.
2) Be nice to one another. And for heaven's sake, please don't jump on the furniture.
3) Running with sharp objects will not be encouraged here.
4) Have a wonderful weekend!

*****

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

6/15 – Jewells posted that she has decided to end her cancer treatments. She had 6 months to go on her 2 year palliative care program, but the chemo drug is ruining her quality of life.
7/13 Update – Jewells posted that the new CT scan showed some growth of the cancer, but for not having treatments for 3 months, it wasn’t bad. She likes the new doctor, and they are figuring out next steps, but Jewells still does not want more chemo.

6/15 – Grumpy and Recalcitrant asked for continued prayers for J.J. Sefton of the Morning Report. He is about to begin chemo and radiation therapy.
7/13 – J.J. posted that he was halfway through the 6-week treatment phase. Aside from being fatigued, there were no serious side effects, thank goodness. He will be having regular MRIs to monitor for any recurrence. He said he cannot thank everyone enough for their kindnesses, prayers, and expressions of support. He also sends prayers for all who are suffering, for complete and speedy recovery.
7/17 Update – J.J. said he is about the same – fatigued, but powering through as best he can.

6/25 – TP asked for prayers for JT, who is ill and in need of prayer.
7/13 Update – JT is in a rehab facility. No one has been able to speak with him, but prayers are still requested.

6/29 – bluebell passed along a request from grammie winger, who asked for prayers for her husband, Rev, who is having open heart surgery on 7/8 to take care of his aortic aneurysm. Recovery time is expected to be 6-8 weeks.
7/20 Update – Rev is still in the hospital. After recovering from the bowel obstruction, he got Covid.

7/6 – Miklos requested prayers for Old Mama, who at the age of almost 86, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which has apparently already spread.
7/11 Update – Old Mama was discharged from the hospital today. This is one of the cases in which the cancer can be surgically removed, and arrangements are underway. Miklos sends his thanks.

7/6 – neverenoughcaffiene brought up prayers for lousagirl, whose husband passed away a few weeks ago.

7/6 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers for Jessie, the former church organist, who was hospitalized with a UTI.
7/13 Update – Jessie is out of the hospital, but still is dehydrated and her UTI medication was making her nauseous. She sends her thanks for the prayers, as does FenelonSpoke.

7/7 – mindful webworker was hospitalized again with intestinal issues. It was resolved without surgery.

7/8 – Tonypete’s friend’s granddaughter was in a severe car crash. She is gravely injured with massive head and leg injuries, and is in a coma. Prayers for her and for the rest of the family, including Tony’s friend Rudy, are appreciated.

7/11 – Stateless posted that he was at a low point, and could use some encouragement.

7/12 – AnnaS posted a request for prayers. Her husband was very sick.

7/13 – NR Pax asked for prayers for his mother-in-law, who was recently diagnosed with cancer. They have found a second mass, so she will be having another biopsy. Hopefully after that, surgery can be planned out.

7/13 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers for a job for FenSon, as well as all the other recent college grads.

7/13 – Ruthless asked for prayers for an upcoming heart procedure on 7/23, to replace his aortic valve. It turned out that he had a birth defect that was never detected, but has caused some physical limitations over his 83 years, which were becoming worse.
7/24 Update – The valve replacement went well. Thanks for the prayers. He also got a pacemaker as well.

7/13 – Someone Else requested prayers for Bull Dog of Maggie’s Farm ,who is going through the same thing that JJ Sefton is.

7/13 – Chris C, a loyal lurker (and prayer) requests prayers for his bride, Melanie, who was just diagnosed with breast cancer. She needs support as she is exhausted from caring for Chris and his 23 days in the hospital for a triple bypass that “went south”.

7/18 – Annie’s Stew sends prayers of thanks for God’s protection of President Trump.

7/18 – “Norman Spiny” requested prayers for his lovely wife, Cindy (married 33 years) who passed away on 7/20 due to metastatic breast cancer.

7/20 – Defenestratus asked for prayers for an aunt and uncle. The aunt just passed away after battling her second round of brain cancer. Her first bout was 34 years ago. The uncle has been distraught, and now they found a benign tumor at the base of his skull that is causing a blood vessel to be pinched. This is causing vision issues for him. They have to wait until next month to see of it is operable.

7/20 – barbarausa asked for prayers for her son. He has gone off the deep end again, and just got kicked out of rehab, after being kicked out of his last group home. He is calling her, asking her to come get him, and she cannot. She can’t take care of him, or keep him on his psych meds, or keep him in treatment, or live with the psychotic breaks.

7/21 – Nan in AZ asked for prayers for her doctors and her mom. Nan is in the hospital with possible cardiac issues. Nan’s dad passed away last month, so they are still dealing with that loss.

7/22 – Sponge’s First Lady is home and resting comfortably. The surgery went well and the doctor was pleased. They did remove some lymph nodes that looked suspect, but did not have to remove much mass around the cancer. They will have the results of the tests on the nodes next week. Thank you for the continued prayers as she has only just begun this whole thing.
7/24 – Pooky’sGirl requested prayers for her SiL, who lost her mother to an MS-related aneurysm a few months ago, just found out that her father has pancreatic cancer.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9
We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair, persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.

Thank you Annie for your service.

Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers! For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

10 Most Merciful and Triune God,
We come to You in our weakness.
We come to You in our fear.
We come to You with trust.
For You alone are our hope.

We place before You the diseases present in our world.
We turn to You in our time of need.

Bring wisdom to doctors.
Give understanding to scientists.
Endow caregivers with compassion and generosity.
Bring healing to those who are ill.
Protect those who are most at risk.
Give comfort to those who have lost a loved one.
Welcome those who have died into Your Eternal Home.

Stabilize our communities.
Unite us in our compassion.
Remove all fear from our hearts.
Fill us with confidence in Your care.

55 Good morning. Quick update

Limited excavation in a small area of interest this week came up empty. The extent oof the K9 alerts gives a large area oof potential dig sites, well beyond our personal resources. Short of strip mining the entire 5 acres it becomes somewhat of a "poke-and-hope" endeavor.

We now leave it in the hands of the CBI, comforted by the fact that whereas for fifteen years we could not gain any credence for our theory of Jack's disappearance, we have now moved the case to the point that there is an active investigation with a comment from one of the investigators that "we believe that Jack was murdered, that we know who murdered him and we will continue working the case until we find the body and find the murderer" (paraphrase). This is definite vindication.

We are secure in the knowledge that Jack knew the Lord. The physical remains are just that... physical.

"O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?"

It was an easy layup and he could have forcefully asserted obvious fact, but instead he chose to be clever and destroy his agency's credibility.

Didn't the FBI also break Alec Baldwin's gun, leading to his acquittal? Clown show.

65 I will also echo the request for prayers for President Trump.

A few weeks ago I flipantly opined that he must be touched by God to be able to withstand the trials put before him, and not just weather the storm, but to come out stronger, his enemies exposed and defeated.

Since then, I've heard the same sentiment given as serious belief by multiple Christian and Jewish leaders. Ben Carson was direct in stating that God has not finished with him.

It is impossible to view the last 5 weeks and not see the hand of God.

I'm personally struggling, after all these years I think I may have found faith.

I always liked that top line on the rainbow yard phylacteries: "Love is Love."

That can't just come straight out and say what they are internally emoting: "Lust is Love" because that would be too much of a confession as to how they have corrupted "love" which already is lacking because the English language somehow can't make a difference between "loving" a dog, pizza or a spouse.

91 I guess I’m the unlucky guy watching YouTube who gets the terrible ads only.

I haven’t seen one Kamala ad on there yet.

No, instead, I get the overweight, black girl who is going to throw away her Backstreet Boys t-shirt, but her Backstreet Boys poster on the wall proceeds to start singing “Tell Me Why” as she explains “Because it stinks!”. But don’t worry Downy Rinse & Refresh has her covered… “It worked, guys!”, she exclaimed to her talking poster buddies.

Then I get the ad for the 250 lb., homely, black girl standing in her bathroom wearing a bra and a towel telling me “Wanna know a secret? More than just my armpits stink”, and that her Secret Whole Body Deodorant goes “everywhere”.

TMI you fat-ass stinker! Take a shower more than once every few weeks and that problem will be solved without resorting to spraying yourself down every day like a 18th century French hooker.

Why does YouTube think I’m a middle-aged, black woman, Backstreet Boys fan, who doesn’t bathe, is what I wanna know?

Well, no shit

My Aunt had some spaghetti eating trick she loved to tell all of her young male relatives to do, so as to impress girls, as she put it.

You have a fork and a spoon, you take a load of spaghetti noodle with the fork and use the spoon as a guide, basically. Place the tines of the fork into the bowl of the spoon and twirl around until all the noodles are wrapped around the fork.

Was all too complicated for me, and it seemed ripe for embarrassment if anything goes wrong, so I never used her trick.

I’ve never been a spaghetti slurrper, so like most normies I either use a butter knife to cut the noodles, or more often than not; cut them with the fork.

152 We Just Lived Through Two of the Hottest Days Ever. Does Anyone Care? The climate crisis is cooking the planet faster than we ever imagined, and extreme heat is killing us. What will it take to shake us into action? -Rolling Stone

the Copernicus Climate Change Service, a European Union-funded research group, announced that last Sunday, July 21, 2024, the daily global average temperature hit 62.76 degrees. It was the hottest day scientists have measured since 1940 — which officially makes it the hottest day ever recorded on Earth by humans. Twenty four hours later, however, Copernicus had to update its report: On Monday, the temperature climbed up to 62.87 degrees. As of now, July 22, 2024 is now the hottest day ever recorded.

sometimes I feel very alone watching what is happening, as it seems everyone else is just going about their daily business, as if the reality isn't reality at all. I'm afraid soon I'll become that crazy person running through the streets screaming for people to pay attention, and it'll be me that gets the pitying glances.

I don't have an issue with the dismissal, because prosecutors need to be severely punished for unethical behavior, even if Baldwin is asshoe.

The real question in the case was, does relying on the armorer that the gun was safe relieve Baldwin of liability for the death? If he checked the gun, saw a cartridge in the chamber, asked about it, and the armorer said it was a blank, but it wasn't, then he is not liable.

But that didn't happen.

1. To me closure is a false construct. A major life event never shuts a door and goes on the shelf. It becomes a part of the fabric of your life and who you are. You learn to live with it. Maybe peace and acceptance suit my approach better than "closure".

2. The guy has been on the run for almost sixteen years now, hiding, scared that every knock on the door will be someone coming too arrest him.. He dives into spider holes when he sees a shadow or hears a siren in the distance. He has been largely alienated from his family. His punishment is of his own making and is ongoing.

Which they’ve gotten a lot worse at in the past few years.
Before, YouTube let you skip, usually, after the first ad played. Occasionally they’d even let you skip that first ad after 5 seconds.

Now it’ll bring the Skip button up with a timer counting down that will countdown until they’ve played two or three ads and never actually let you skip anything. It’s like they have Carnival barkers running the algorithm whose only purpose is to make you hold the remote in your hand constantly in hopes of skipping those surprise ad breaks they hit you with right in the middle of a YouTuber’s sentence… but alas, they’ve tricked you again, sucker… “No Skipping, For You!”

Not really. Baldwin violated multiple rules of gun safety, and that included Hollywood's own firearm guidelines.

One element that gets left out is that you're not actually supposed to point guns at people. Depending on the angle, you go to one side or the other, which is impossible to see on the screen. Only in rare instances is someone put in the crosshairs and that's usually with a non-firing replica.

Actors are also required to confirm a loaded weapon, which he didn't do.

About 1 month ago there was a story in the WSJ about how the tech titans were pursuing nuclear to generate the power needed for server farms and AI. So lefties may suddenly develop strange new respect for nuclear now that it's needed for all their cool gadgets, social media, etc..

And no, they will never acknowledge that they fought it for decades. It will be like every NPC upgrade that overwrites all previous (and typically, opposing) beliefs.

237 Solar "farms"...

There was some local debate about this a year ago. About 60 - 70 acres of viable farmland was going to be auctioned off. The original owner has passed and his/her kids saw $$$ in the land. They were not interested in it for anything other than cash.

Two competing entities for it; one was a developer who was going to "plant" homes on it. A lot of homes. The other was some quasi-government consortium that wanted to "plant" a solar farm. The solar consortium put a lot of pressure on the sellers but the developer had more money.

It was an interesting fight in that the solar people (government) really leaned on the whole climate crisis lie whereas the developer simply told the truth about his intentions to build houses.

Back when we first acquired our place in Sussex County and well before it began filling up with butt ugly housing developments, there was a small cafe near our place at which we sometimes went for breakfast. In one corner there were several pictures of older guys and a couple of trees with six to eight coffee mugs on them. A sign near these said that the two adjacent booths were reserved for the "Old Farts Coffee Club" and it listed the days of the week when they met.

This arrangement lasted for three or four years, and then it disappeared. Not long after that, the small cafe itself went out of business. It was a sad occurrence on all levels.

We seldom go out for breakfast down in Sussex these days.

278 Ah:

The organisers of the Paris Olympics are facing a backlash after an apparent drag queen parody of Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper featured in the opening ceremony.

The controversial scene featured at the end of the four-hour show, when, in heavy rain, a group of around a dozen performers, including drag queens, struck poses behind a long table.

At the centre was a woman wearing a headdress that resembled a crown, while holding her hands out in a heart shape. She was flanked by drag performers, and other artists who danced alongside her.

The Olympics said the performance was an “interpretation of the Greek God [of wine and festivity] Dionysus” to make “us aware of the absurdity of violence between human beings”.

We need Charlie Hebdo now more than ever, huh?

Very nice one. Read it aloud to MiladyJo. Amen!

That last line reverb'd with me. I've been thinking, as we endure various problems large and not so large of aging, how I have never really doubted that God can heal us, fully and completely - I've understood "omnipotent" since I was a little kid - but I'm never really as much confident that He will heal us. Much as we'd like it.

I try to bear in mind the spirit of the plea of that anxious father who asked Jesus, "Lord, I believe; help me in my unbelief."

Listening to the podcast right now and your conversation about election systems and election integrity...

Remember we had a discussion similar to this after the 2022 election.

I was listening to Poso on Tucker and he said something that is pretty profound.

"The point of a system is what the system does"

In his point he was talking about Communism. If the result of Communism is the murder of 100 million people, it's because the intent of Communism is the murder of 100 million people.

But it applies the things like election systems as well. If the result of an election process is lack of transparency, integrity, and simplicity, that is because that is the point of the system. The people running out don't want transparency, integrity, and simplicity.

Posted by: Lizzy at July 27, 2024

***
That's the one. Sandler is a bachelor dentist with a girlfriend who is making noises about getting married. So he gets his long-time nurse, who is also a friend, to *pretend* to be his wife, to scare the girl off. Unfortunately the girl thinks it's cool and wants to meet the wife! A classic farce, in which at various points you say, "Oh, now, come on, they wouldn't put up with that --!" And right then, along comes a new complication or event that gives them a comic reason to continue with the farce.

432 Aniston stole/saved "Horrible Bosses", by far the most memorable performance in an otherwise mediocre movie.
She was also good in classic "Office Space" although I agree any other marginally-talented late-20s star could have played that role.
"Meet The Millers" and "Office Christmas Party" were as mediocre as "Horrible Bosses" but Aniston didn't (couldn't) elevate them. "Meet The Millers" probably should have cast an actual late-'90s-era stripper/pr0n* instead.
So we can point to good Aniston roles or good movies with Aniston performances. Her problem is that we haven't had a good movie which needed Aniston to make it good.
