32 There's something ... off about her proportions. She's skinny. Super skinny. Dangerously skinny. She's not buried under a comforter or anything, but there is nothing to indicate that she has a lower body at all. She's not busty. Her stomach appears to be essentially hollow.

Yet her arms look normal.

Odd.

Posted by: Tonypete at July 25, 2024 09:45 AM (5Seyi)

66 The detail in this is very well done even though it's kinda monochromatic. That's impressive. The stigmata isn't obvious at first which is nice. Someone knew the art of subtlety. This is a quiet and subtle depiction of a miracle that most would consider terrifying if not horrifying. Nicely done.

108 Although I'm not familiar with the whole story behind the painting, the artist has created an effective and moving image. The plain white clothing and bandages make me think of piety and virginity (she was a nun). The candle seems less for illumination and more as part of a prayer ritual. I assume that is a stigmata on the right hand which would indicate her holiness, perhaps due to the ecstacy of her vision. The detail and use of soft color adds to the effectiveness of the painting.

BTW, ecstacy originally meant not simply profound joy or pleasure as it is used today. It meant to be transported outside or beyond oneself, especially concerning a connection to God, and to be overwhelmed by the experience.

146 To all those folks afraid America 'isn't ready' yet for a black woman and a gay man in the White House- Now IS the time! We now face one of the two most important elections in American History.

Those guys at Lexington and in Concord decided they weren't going to take any more shit !!! We shouldn't either. The Fascists won't know what hit them!

What's needed above everything else is to beat Trump in this election. As smart as he is, what state electoral votes would he bring the ticket? Likely none. It's not worth the risk of electing Trump and I'm sure that Buttigieg would agree and feel honored by even being vetted.

What electoral votes did Kamala Harris bring in 2020? That would be none of them. She's from California. Joe picked her because she was the best person for the job.

Georgia. She was a reward for Black voters who saved Biden's primary. Why should such voters faithfully vote for Democratic voters without a seat at the table.

The job of a Vice President is about getting elected. Democrats have a straight white male problem. Representation matters. We need to expand the map more than break two glass ceilings in a single election.

179 If there's anyone who cannot and never can be "unburdened by what has been," it's a progressive. The sins of the past are the basic cornerstone of progressive ideology, and the basis for all of their claims of power. Their every action is justified by some past misdeed - real or imagined - committed by someone else and then transferred to the contemporary target. That's how it works.

"Unburdened by the past" indeed. Gimmie a break. At no level is this remotely possible for a prog, not in the general or in the specific. These are the same people who drive the consumption of antidepressants into the stratosphere and pinch pennies for therapy for years on end. If there's no "burden" of the past, none of that would be happening, because it wouldn't matter - and nobody intentionally pours money and effort into things that don't matter.

If that is the case, the man chose poorly.

A real woman, who understands and appreciates her role in marriage is priceless. And if she will understand the sacrifice and work and thought put into a proclamation of love and a request for her hand, then go buy a beautiful ring for her. Some women are happy with a twisty tie. We have video evidence of a woman running stacks of ballots through multiple times in Fulton County.

So, they've built in assumptions around the election using 2020 as a base, but the base is nonsense. In the meantime, the GA Board of Elections has forced through changes that should tamp down on the crap brewing.

We'll see if that's effective or not, but polling of GA itself is heavily suspect.

When my late husband proposed 31 years ago, he kind of "swung by" the mall while we were out on another errand. He parked and said, "I've been thinking... We should get married. Wha'd'ya think?" We went in and bought an engagement/wedding ring set for under $300.

We didn't have a lot of money, obviously. And we had to roll pennies in order to get groceries after returning from our camping honeymoon in Devil's Lake, Wisconsin.

But we were married nearly 30 years, and that ring, and his, are now my most valuable possessions.

The "three months' salary" standard for what an engagement ring should cost is absurd and unfair because it's regressive. The standard needs to change and be made progressive.

If a man clears $15k after taxes, it is hugely damaging to expect him to drop close to four grand on an engagement ring. He can't afford it. If a man clears $100k after taxes, four grand is an insult and unfair in the other direction.

The standard should be bound to tax brackets, and match those tax brackets. If you're in the 10% tax bracket, the ring should cost 10% of your annual net salary. If you're in the 37% tax bracket, the ring should cost 37% of your annual net salary.

This regressive "flat tax" approach to engagement rings needs to be made progressive in order to be made fair.

Only our rudders got separated from our boat 5 miles off of Jekyll Island. So we couldn't make the finish - and after we got the boat back to land, packed up and drove the rest of the way to the finish - had the awards banquet and all that, it was 11pm by the time I had time to ask her if she wanted to go for a walk on the beach which is where I knelt and proposed in the pitch black. Wellllll...yes and no on the authorship. It's generally accepted now there's little of Emmerich in the book and more of Brentano, the poet who drafted it based upon his, ahem, "memories of their discussions" (i.e. it's probably him inspired by things she said). When the was beatified they pretty much said, no, it's probably not really her authorship.

I keep saying, 48 million watched the Trump-Biden debate. It was the first time many of those were exposed to the real Biden.

A few weeks later, his support cratered to the point where he was forced to drop out.

This same thing will repeat with a Trump-Kamala debate. Will be the first time millions see the real Kamala.

That election also featured admitted Trump supporters who stayed home on election day because they exist only in a bubble of Trump-favored news and thought he had it in the bag.

Which is precisely the type of behavior I'm desperately trying to avoid. This is a fight for our country, and sitting here talking about "bullshit polls" and "ballot stuffing" and all of that is just whistling past the graveyard.

And then it hit me. That was Richard Fish's favorite catchphrase from Ally McBeal back in the day. Bygones. It was funny when he said it. Kamala's just the retard who thinks she sounds profound when she says it.
