Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Artistic Elephants Cafe![]() Utrecht, Netherlands via Architecture & Tradition (@archi_tradition) Nobody dresses to fly anymore. I previously linked a video of a dog who spins wildly in some kind of ninja frenzy. Here, he shows off his Spinning Ninjitsu techniques against an enemy, who is equally fearful and confuzzled. Neighborhood watch. Wind advisory. Stay with it until the end. This is a very poignant story: A poor elephant was bullied and ostracized by other elephants in a zoo enclosure. Because the other elephants were jealous of the attention he was getting. Because he's a painter. I did not post this for a while because it seemed... what's the word? Total horseshit. But it's... real?! Like several other species that are able to produce abstract art, elephants, using their trunks to hold brushes, create paintings which some have compared to the work of abstract expressionists.[50] Elephant art is now commonly featured at zoos, and is shown in museums and galleries around the world.[51] Ruby at the Phoenix Zoo is considered the original elephant art star,[52] and her paintings have sold for as much as $25,000.[50] Ruby chose her own colors and was said to have a keen sense of which color she wished to use.[52] The Asian Elephant Art & Conservation Project, an "elephant art academy" in New York, teaches elephants retired from the logging industry to paint.[53] For paintings that resemble identifiable objects, teachers give the elephants guidance.[50] An example of this was shown in the TV program Extraordinary Animals, in which elephants at a camp in Thailand were able to draw portraits with flowers. Although the images were drawn by the elephants, there was always a trainer assisting and guiding the movement.[54] A popular video showing an elephant painting a picture of another elephant became widespread on Internet news and video websites.[55] The website Snopes.com, which specializes in debunking urban legends, lists the video as "partly true", in that the elephant produced the brush strokes, but notes that the similarity of the produced paintings is indicative of a learned sequence of strokes rather than a creative effort on the part of the elephant.[54]Well... may be. But humans learn to be artists by repetition and copying, too.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has ordered a review of 20 Medals of Honor given to U.S. soldiers for their actions during the 1890 Battle of Wounded Knee, which later became known as a massacre of Native Americans, to make certain the awards were warranted.
The reassessment — requested by Congress in 2022 — will be completed by a five-person panel of experts charged with examining each individual recipient’s actions during the incident at Wounded Knee Creek in South Dakota, Austin wrote in a July 19 memorandum. He ordered the panel to provide a recommendation to retain or rescind each individual Medal of Honor by Oct. 15. “The scope of the [panel’s] review is limited to reviewing each [Wounded Knee Creek Medal of Honor] awardee’s individual actions during this specific engagement on or about Dec. 29, 1890,” Austin wrote in the memo made public Wednesday. The panel “may consider the context of the overall engagement as appropriate, including as necessary to understand each … recipient’s individual actions.” Posted by: Cat Ass Trophy at July 25, 2024 07:45 PM (d9LQi) 11

I'd like to see Israel create a tour for Queers for Palestine. They could provide shirts for the tour group while in the areas with lots of Muslims, with Queers for Palestine in Hebrew front and back, the queer rainbow above the Palestinian flag on the front, back, and both sleeves. On the front, it should also say Queers for Palestine in Arabic, and Proudly Homosexual on the back in Arabic. The tour group should be told that they identity the tour to Israeli law enforcement and the IDF.
The tour should include the highlights in Gaza and the West Bank, without any Israeli support. I'm SURE that Hamas and the Palestinian Authority would just LOVE the outpouring of support.... Posted by: Hour of the Wolf at July 25, 2024 07:46 PM (VNX3d) 13

The flesh of the Manatee is white and delicate, and tastes like young pork eaten fresh or salted, while the fat forms excellent lard. The cured flesh keeps long without corruption, and it will continue good several weeks, even in the hot climate of which it is a native, when other meat would not resist putrefaction for as many days.
The fibres and the lean part of the flesh are like beef, but more red; it takes a very long time boiling. The fat of the young one is like pork, and can scarcely be distinguished from it, while the lean eats like veal. The fat, which lies between the entrails and skin has a pleasant smell, and tastes like the oil of sweet almonds. It makes an admirable substitute for butter, and does not turn rancid in the sun. The fat of the tail is of a firmer consistence, and when boiled is more delicate than the other. Posted by: Manatee Facts at July 25, 2024 08:20 PM (vFG9F) 101

I'll hand it to AMD, they stood up and halted distribution of their potentially faulty chips. At any rate, AMD doesnt have a foundry so whatever happened is TSMC's problem.
Meanwhile, months ago, Intel said "Huh? What problem? We know nothing!" And then followed that up with a BIOS update because they blamed the motherboard manufacturers for setting the power profiles & limits too high. Several months later we come to find out that it's not the motherboards but faulty chips caused by oxidation of copper in the VIAs (interconnects between chip layers). Intel is now promising a microcode update... in August! Oh how the mighty have fallen. Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at July 25, 2024 08:47 PM (XeU6L) Intel says they fixed the manufacturing problem that caused the oxidation. They just didn't bother to tell anybody for two years and are now claiming that the issue "only affected a small number" of 13th Gen chips. The real issue is that Intel kept having to push their chips with more and more power to keep up with AMD on clocks and now they're degrading faster as a result. I saw JFK's beribboned uniform in a Boston museum. The highest medal was for lifesaving after PT-109 sank. Nothing else but service ribbons. No commendations at all. His was the only ship sunk by ramming in WWII. The crew was asleep, because they could have outrun the IJN destroyer that hit them. The Real Navy did not approve of his performance in combat.
