What a bummer, the George Foreman Grill is no longer 29.

The spectacular rise and surprising staying power of the George Foreman Grill

Leon Dreimann still remembers the flashing red lights.

He was at the QVC Studios in Pennsylvania watching his business partner George Foreman chat with two co-hosts during a TV spot for Foreman’s namesake grill. The pair got carried away in their conversation and forgot about the heavyweight prizefighter standing with them. Foreman improvised, grabbing a burger fresh off the grill, placing it between two buns, and taking a bite on live TV.

Suddenly, the phone lines were overrun with callers. QVC shifted into emergency mode.

“Literally, a red siren light starts blaring in every corridor,” says Dreimann, then the CEO of Salton, Inc., the exclusive seller of the Foreman Grill.

Workers at the QVC Studios called it “going red.” Dreimann says he looked on as janitors, accountants, and warehouse workers stopped what they were doing and grabbed the nearest phone, taking sales calls to assist the overwhelmed operators — the fervor induced entirely by the boxer’s snap decision to eat a hamburger.

Such was the allure of Foreman and the George Foreman Grill during its late 90s and early 2000s heyday.

This year marks the 30-year anniversary of the grill, officially known as the George Foreman Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine. After a slow start, it became an indelible part of ‘90s consumer culture and the world’s most popular product for cooking hamburgers, hot dogs, salmon, and just about everything else (Oprah Winfrey preferred it for bacon).

'Penis facials' remain Hollywood's most alarming beauty trend

It’s becoming increasingly clear that there’s nothing celebrities won’t do for beauty, especially when it comes to their skin

From Kim Kardashian’s famous predilection for so-called “vampire facials” to Victoria Beckham’s enthusiasm for bird poo-infused face cream, society’s elite seem willing to go to any lengths to preserve their glowing complexions.

However, Cate Blanchett’s preferred treatment must surely be the winner in the weirdness stakes. It is known simply as “the penis facial”.

Unfortunately Mother Nature takes lives. Even those who are in the armed forces. Closing a beach for because of a death is an overreaction.

Authorities at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State closed recreational access to its beaches this week, following the death of an Army soldier who drowned on Monday, July 15.

Joint Base Lewis-McChord, jointly operated by the Army and the Air Force, announced the closures on Thursday, July 18. The closure specifically affects the beaches at American Lake, most of which fall within the installation’s borders, and bar recreational swimming at the lake. The decision came three days after the death of one soldier. In a statement posted to the base’s website and social media pages, base leadership said that the beaches are indefinitely closed, and that a safety investigation is currently underway.

Shocking Reuters Report: NATO’s Unfixable Shell Shortage

If Reuters’s reporting is correct, it reveals a major problem for the U.S. military in securing ammunition. No one has ever mentioned this problem, which is largely inconceivable. Like so many government problems, it has absurd origins.

Since Russia seized Crimea in 2014, policymakers in America and Europe repeatedly failed to address warnings about the sorry condition of the West’s munitions industry.

NEW YORK (AP) — Officials on Sunday released the name of a pilot who died in a skydiving flight after her passengers jumped from the aircraft near the Niagara Falls.

Melanie Georger, 26, was the only person on board when the single-engine Cessna crashed Saturday, the Niagara Country Sheriff's Office said in a statement. Georger, of Towanda, New York, was working to become a commercial pilot, her father said Saturday in a statement on Facebook.

“My beloved daughter, my best friend and one of the two lights of my life passed away suddenly today,” Paul Georger wrote.

The emperor's helper is also tonight's: Genius Award Winner.

The Emperor’s helper had no clothes, Florida police say.

Following recent reports about a male intruder sleeping inside a Vero Beach apartment complex stairwell, an officer on foot patrol yesterday found the suspect standing inside a common room at around 3 AM.

Gregory Gornell, 44, was “fully nude,” according to an arrest report, and told police that he “was staying at the facility because he was the emperor’s helper.”

Seen at right, Gornell reportedly told the officer that the building--an independent living community for residents over the age of 62--was “under new management and that the emperor told him that he could stay there.”

The following story even caused a certain misanthrope to smile. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

At the age of 7, Dawson lived in fear that he and his older brother Dalton wouldn’t get the chance to grow up together because they were floundering in foster care.

Adoption would be difficult because Dalton has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, is nonverbal, and a quadriplegic. Although several families were interested in Dawson, he was worried that finding a forever home could lead to separation.

Thankfully, with help from the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and Florida parents Robbin and Steven, the boys are now together—and thriving.

I think if the convention happens it will be insane. However if Biden shucks off this mortal coil, I can see the Dems having a virtual vote "out of respect for the late Joey and his family". The hardcore left would go batshit and might not vote, but at least the Dems will avoid the perception amongst the independent voters that they are violently insane

171 56 For the decent folks here (doesn't include me btw) a penis facial uses the foreskins of circumcised Korea babies.

While it doesn't hurt the kids much, once again, the culture of death shows it's complete lack of humanity. Using baby parts as the main item in a beauty regimen.

They also brought up how the Russians were accessing more shells from North Korea, amongst others, and how the West was depleting all sorts of stockpiles as well.

So, this issue has been known for some time -- and it is just another fall out from the U.S. and its allies pushing to continue the conflict in the Ukraine instead of finding a way to settle it.

I was shocked that he mentioned CEO,s of bothering Coke and Pepsi as being involved with the CIA. Both worldwide holdings and I believe it. Holt died in 1997. Mz Cheatle makes sense now....

They were crying, fake crocodile tears when they told us. "We won't tell you that you have to move out in 30 days" WTF, you can fuck right off. We will find something because we aren't living in limbo about when we have to be out.

The Eviction Process in Wyoming: Rules for Landlords and Property Managers
An overview of Wyoming eviction rules, forms, and procedures.

...

Notice for Termination Without Cause

If a landlord wants a tenant to move but does not have legal cause to evict the tenant, then the landlord has to wait until the tenant's lease or rental agreement has expired before expecting the tenant to move. In some cases, the landlord might still need to give the tenant written notice to move.

= = =

So as I read this, unless you've violated a material clause in the lease, or failed to pay rent, they can't evict you with cause, and without cause, you can basically tell them, "No, we will adhere to the terms as laid out in the lease and we are not voluntarily leaving just because you want us to."

These people's daughter can find other living arrangements. Dig in your heels and this problem goes away.

Otto, Graf von Bismarck-Schönhausen, is that you? Dwell not in the past, for the times have altered our present event space. Circumstances require that you get with the program, as the kids say. They do say that, don't they? I had been led to believe that such an utterance marked one as based and truly rizz. Idioms of American English, have you vanquished me yet again?

The elderly Frau who admonished the grizzly to conduct himself with a proper bearing (Herzog has maybe made a funny here, nicht wahr?) excites my admiration, and all should hold her in esteem. Do not tread on me, she is saying to the bruin, unlike the Treadwell youngling, who was trod upon most decisively. For that last one, you must picture a Gadsden Flag. Or maybe not.

The Bard of Avalon once queried whether one might compare someone to a summer's day. The bears think otherwise, and compare one's face to claws and sharp toothy fangs, their principle mode of discourse. They would make sport of our remains, gleefully tossing them hither and yon. A new production plant opened in Texas a month ago. I don't know what its production rate is. Production was at 28k shells per month. Pentagon's goal is 100k by 2025. Russia currently produces 250k per month or 3 million a year. They are actively increasing their production. Combined total production for the US and NATO allies is 1.2 million per year. Screwed is not a strong enough description.

417 Thor and I and a few of our cats are in the midst of a year long RV road trip. My 84 year old mother, who lives between us and her youngest sister, has dementia, and some times she comes with us, but she has dementia and can't manage much linger than a few weeks away from home, so my aunt and her husband have been checking on her and keeping her occupied. We rented our house to a nice young couple for the year; it was what got us taking the trip to start with. I'll spare you the long but very heartwarming story.
Well, my aunt died last month. You know what never once occurred to us? Kicking that couple out. We didn't sign a thing, but we shook hands, and gave our word. We figured something out. There's always a way.
Don't let them kick you out

432 It's about time we rid ourselves of Luxembourg!
Posted by: Puddleglum, cheer up for the worst is yet to come

I would be less than candid if I did not say it was time for such an eventuality. Luxembourg knows what it did, and their tearful faces beseech us to save them from their shame. For centuries their only purpose has been to produce postage stamps of an unusual nature and to serve as a storage space for the Great Powers of Europe. Hence have they been laden with salted herring by the Swedes, a precursor to the savage Lutheran dietary punishment of Lutefisk. Let us go into that dark night, they beg, fearful that reverse-Scandi influences might expose them to the jello casserole of your Midwest.

Such then for Luxembourg. But for those who would trifle with Liechtenstein, be not froggy in your desire to jump. For then it would be on, like Donkey Kong. The kids say that, do they not? Has popular culture led Werner astray again? I shall think on this, now that Wordle is up. Those five spaces taunt me, and I must show them who is master. As your Stan Lee said, excelsior! It's the result of my Balkan brother's incapacity to accept the death of his 8-year-old son in a Turkish earthquake. That is, he went through a horrific period as despite claiming to be Christian, he appeared to have zero belief or even concept in any kind of afterlife, and was plunged not only into an intense and near-suicidal grief, but into a crisis of Faith. Yelling at me on the phone, 'Where is my SON?"
And unable to accept or even comprehend that, oh, if you're a, you know, Christian like you say, your son is in, oh, maybe Heaven with God?
Unbelievable and I've felt compelled to write up essentially an entire book for him explaining various theologies why this is.

It is a compliment, but no. Without Herr Klemperer, the world would lack Hogan and his Heroes. In a manner not unlike that of Sergeant Schultz, I can state though that I know nussing, I hear nussing, I see nussing that can inform me of the level of sketchiness that Bob Crane and Richard Dawson brought to the table in that otherwise estimable production. Was this a less smarmy pre-configuration of the Biden administration? Was the series creator Bernard Fein prescient? Did he seek to warn us? Why then the oblique methodology he employed? These are questions I mull over when I am tossing darts at my poster of Aaron Spelling. He brought The Loveboat into being, and there must be a reckoning.

494 Westerners may find this hard to comprehend but this New Age shit about 'Energy'? It's nothing new, and in the Balkans it's been cosmological currency for thousands of years, if not tens of thousands of years. It's OLD. Anytime the Church loses its grip it resurges, it's right there under the surface, all the time. And its results aren't pretty, despite insistence by adherents, who every damn time think they've discovered some amazing New Thing.

Going to Shithole Mexico, where my brother was working, and watching him wade into the Pacific Ocean, cross himself, and pray to the Sun? Yeah I wasn't quite ready for that one.

499 Did oil/filter changes and lube on two vehicles today, the 2008 Suburban, and the 2001 Dodge Dakota. Pulled the transmission dipstick on the 'burb, and the fluid was kind of brown, and a pint low. "Well, when I'm at the parts store for the oil for the Dakota, I will see about a filter and pan gasket for the 'burb's 6-speed tranny." They wanted 90 bucks for a filter kit: a plastic filter, molded gasket, and a seal ring for the filter spigot. Yikes! So I ordered a kit from Amazon, 43 bucks.

Here's how you know you are poor.

When your Mom buys you an entry grade Seiko watch as a Graduation present. And then has to ask for it back, which she returns, and gifts instead a (then, thrilling and new) Quartz (red LED) digital watch. (at about 1/3 the price of the Seiko.)

In order to keep the rent/food/lights/funds ratios, in balance.

And THAT, with me kicking in about 90% of what I earned busting my ass after H.S. hours in the restaurant kitchens.

507 The idea about money, Marx regraded it as a labor-storage device, but missed its other attributes: energy storage and energy transformation. Marx was stuck in a mental doom loop, obsessed with Labor and Capital, when he could have gone a bit more mystical and replaced the concept of Labor with Energy. Money can 'transform' things, like the Philosopher's Stone: you sell one thing, use the money to buy something else, and you have 'transformed' one thing into another. You have moved the contained Energy from one Thing, into another Thing, with money. It's a storage/transfer device/concept that can quantify, qualify, transfer, and transform.
When Agkar tried to eliminate money they lost the ability to transfer energy: it had the same catastrophic effect as trying to eliminate fossil fuels.

522 Energy manipulation and transfer/transformation is usually referred to as 'Alchemy', as that has to do with exactly that: the moving of Energy from place to place and from one container to another, making the assumption of basic physics that at base, everything is made of Energy and any given form is merely an outer shell that doesn't really express the 'meaning' or 'value' of the Energy contained within. It's about transformation.

It's why George Soros' book is entitled, 'The Alchemy Of Finance': guy is not, and has never been, a Capitalist: he is an Alchemist using 'currency' to transform Things, and then by extension, the entire World. It's what he does.

I think the two sides were trying to maintain the status quo, knowing that if they replace Biden, it adds an element of uncertainty. But, between the debate performance and the attempt on Trump, they felt they had to do something to be able to keep it within the margin of cheat. The cost of doing nothing outweighed the inertia of the situation. Hence where we are now.

I did see a video of him getting on the plane in Las Vegas and he could barely walk. Then there was the report that Air Force One flew back so fast is shook the whole time.

Does this mean anything? Who knows given outright fabrication and lying from that has surrounded his health for years now.

What does seem certain is Biden is irrelevant now and the junta that has been running things continue doing so.

578 Morning, fellow insomaniacals,

F. Joke is missing in action. And we thought Saturday the 13th was the biggest news of '24 so far, huh?

LBJ's "I do not choose to run," Watergate and Nixon's resignation and Ford's pardon of him: All had better move over on the history book pages and make room for 2024.

Anyway, as our former pResident liked to say, I'm up with about enough sleep. My plan is to work out again this am, take off Wednesday, and get sessions in on Thursday and Friday. (Well, such is the *plan.* No plan survives first contact with the enemy . . . which in my case is laziness.)

There were other American students, we named the teams the Fightin' Proletarians.

585 I emerge yet again from the existential combat that is Wordle. Schiller would say that against such, the Gods themselves struggle in vain, and I echo this, but fortune has favored me on this occasion. Fortune with all her wiles and guises, and the absence of proper names. I find the absence of umlauts disturbing, yet I continue. And now as Pixy struggles on the underside of the planet to convey to us the news that is Tech, for those about to rock, we salute you. Surely this is a timely reference? Nein? Idiom is my Achilles heel, and so now to Duolingo. Jumble is also good. Later, gators.
