Just a comment about J.D. Vance. He is a really smart guy, very articulate, thinks on his feet, won't get "stumped" like some other previous "VP's" I can think of (Mike Pence, Paul Ryan, Dan Quayle, etc.).
The problem with Ron DeSantis (in the primaries, etc) was that he forgot his political "instincts" and let his ideas and message get garbled by the political handler class. They all told him he couldn't campaign and govern the US like he did Florida. Which, in fact, is what his national supporters wanted.
I think Ron is a great guy and would make a good President, but he kind of dorked himself in the primaries. I sincerely hope he has learned from this.
Vance does trust his own judgement and "instincts" and will not be anyone's "yes" man. This might not have been seen nationally, but he was up at East Palestine,OH several times last year (after the big trainwreck, etc), and walked around with people, and was pretty outraged about what had happened.

I heard O'Brien give an interview earlier today. He said he asked both parties if he could speak at their conventions. He said he immediately got a call from Trump inviting him to speak. He has not heard from anyone at the DNC yet. That's pretty shocking.

Spacecraft crews typically do not eat all the food they are allocated. This is known but full daily calorie allocations are still launched. Typically crews end up not liking some things they selected pre-flight. That stuff is the typical un-eaten items. The Starliner two and the ISS crew may have to eat some items they don't prefer but won't go hungry. Plus there is always an amount stowed for use in-case of unplanned additional on-orbit days. Upcoming resupply vehicles while the Starliner two are there will have more food stowed at the expense of something else; science experiment supplies or small experiments that can wait, etc.
Oxygen and water I'm not sure about. Both can be added as-needed to upcoming resupply vehicles. Worst-come-to-worse, one half of the six-person ISS crew can be brought home early or the next ISS crew can be delayed going up, to extend on-board supplies - if the Starliner two are stranded until a Dragon or Soyuz with empty seats arrives to bring them home.

Starliner can do an uncrewed automated return and safely did one the previous mission. Today I'm 60-40 on the crew coming back in the Starliner.

My first presidential election that I could vote in was BJ Clitton. I pretty much knew which way I leaned but I felt I should give both sides equal thought and I kept an open mind. I can't remember if it was a campaign speech or after he already won, but I was all primed up.
I had no distractions, I had my notebook and I started taking notes while watching TV. Man, what a crock of s**t! I remember being disgusted with him of how much he lied and what a snake he was. I've thought of that off and on over the years. And guess what...I found those notes! I wouldn't call myself a hoarder, but I do like to keep things. Oh man my notes were hilarious. YOU LIE!! M****RF***ER! FU!! Stuff like that.
Of course, him talking was the least of the damage he did. Hopefully his dick is rotting away like his nose.

Not that I've heard, Anna. I expect the ground along with the two crew periodically power-up shut-down systems to check them. Starliner is designed and ground-certified to be docked to ISS for 200 days, so the electronics should be OK for the period so far. 'Should' being the operative word. The ground will get continuous telemetry from powered systems while docked. Starliner can draw electric power from ISS through connectors in the docking system.

From my observations after a trip there many years ago.
The French have turned into a bunch of Godless Heathens for the most part with very little respect for their smaller cathedrals (turning some them into theater venues).
Frankly...they only rebuilt Notre-Dame de Paris for the Tourist Dollars it will generate IMO.

Speaking of which (being merry), the other night I decided to re-learn, on keyboard, a guitar solo I wrote many years ago. I do not easily learn by ear but I managed to play along on the keyboard to the guitar solo and almost got it down -- it's in A minor so all white keys, except there was that one interval that sounded off, too sorrowful. Then it hit me (not understanding, not the THC). I knew it just didn't sound right in A minor. Nope, A *harmonic* minor, which means I have to use my pinky on a black key and I hate that. But once I mostly got it down, it was a lot of fun to play and sounded great.

One can actually have greater than 100% RH. This is dubbed supersaturation (you have supercooled water vapor in the air). Turns out this quite common high up in the atmosphere, but very, very rare down below and at ground level.

I think in a wider analysis, the Obama faction simply overplayed their hand. This is their Fundamental Transformation made manifest, and it's a bust. You can't be a lazy revolutionary. They took their invincible position bequeathed upon them by a century of academic and political rot hollowing out our civil society.... and just sat on it and said "Fuck you, pay me". They thought they were the ones they were waiting for, but they were just the last wastrel bastard scions of a debauched family, squandering the estate and the family fortune because they have no idea how that fortune ever came to be in the first place.

I carefully have not looked at the weather report. I'm in a good mood and don't want to ruin it . . . and I'm pretty sure it'll be the same, barring rain showers or hurricanes, until Nov. or Dec. The cats are good; Stirling sat in Miss Linda's lap yesterday afternoon, and girl Dagny is off doing her own thing.
I looked at her Sunday afternoon sitting on the table, and I realized -- despite her being smaller than Stirling -- she really is a grown cat. She may fill out a bit more in the next two years, as Siberians do. But she's a grownup now.

They get all their 'information' from half-watched network TV and Facebook. They form ALL their opinions from fleeting imagery. They don't care about policies except for what might get them something or take less out of their paycheck. The image of Trump with blood on his face is a LOT more powerful than people here might think, to the vast wasteland of the working apathetic. They hate the 'drama' and potential for violence, and so far the perception it's been all Trump's fault, but him getting shot turns that perception on its head. And the firefighter, a family man, getting killed for no reason at all? This thing is crucial and the BEST thing Trump could do in WI is a 'Unity' speech. It's not 'us' he needs to convince.
