87 My memory and shitty search engines won't let me find it but one of the short stories in the Pournelle There Will Be War anthology series was about humans preparing to fight aliens for control of a planet.

Half the human force was Israeli so the unit had a rabbi; and half was Irish-American and so had a priest for their spiritual needs. The priest had played football at college, getting a nickname like "the Mule" or "Donkey". The unit commander asks the rabbi to bless the troops and the priest will say Mass before the battle.

When the rabbi goes to give the blessing, the priest begins speaking in a trance, telling the rabbi not to do it. And the rabbi refuses to give the blessing.

I don't know if the inspired priest said it, or the rabbi justifying the refusal, but he believes the aliens have the better claim to the planet as they can breathe the atmosphere unaided instead of requiring spacesuits like the humans.

It's looking increasingly like that news was leaked to Mark Halperin as part of a coordinated public effort to convince Biden to step aside.

They usually kill them by stomping the coyote to death. We had one in our pasture until the lessee switched out herds. She stayed with the original herd when he moved them to a different pasture.

If the cheat is based on believability from polls, I seriously don't understand how a party chucking off its primary winner for literally anyone else, especially someone who already polls with lower favorability like Kamala, makes that easier.

It's chaos, pissing off the base who now think their votes don't matter, while having an implicit admission to the public that Biden has been out of it for a while, all while Trump looks steady and unbeatable.

Also, polling around hypotheticals are notoriously bad because they're even more about narrative shaping than normal. Remember when we were told, through polling, that Trump would lose support with a conviction?

This calls to mind that period during the transition, in early 2021. I’m a go with the team you have on the field guy. These people are all trying to save their own asses, and in the process are making a bad decision by dumping Biden. They know replacing him is a huge long shot, and maybe some don’t even care. Either way it’s an emotional decision not an intellectual one. These are not dumb people, but this move is uncharacteristic and can only be explained as part of the chaos. You triage Joe, and try to make it effective enough to save some down ticket races. Because either way, it sure feels like a reckoning is coming. People are pissed and they are looking for somewhere to vent that anger. The only question is how big.

I keep coming back to my theory that ultimately this is about control of the DNC. Win or loss, Bidens are still in control of the DNC after the election.

If they can get him to drop without even resigning, Kamala (or someone else) becomes the nominee and de facto head of the party, giving them authority over the DNC.

The DNC is currently in Biden's pocket, accelerating the nomination schedule. Everyone else wants it to be in theirs.

That was the coldest cut, and very effective! Trump is running against everything the Democrats have done for at least 14 years. Biden was only the face of it, and not even a good face, as has finally been revealed. For Trump, Biden has been dismissed as irrelevant to what he wants to accomplish. It made his call for unity of purpose and action all the more potent.

Hard to tell anything about this. She keeps looking in shooter's direction, doesn't really flinch when shots ring out but she's also hardly the only person to get out their phone and film the moment.
