10 legged Arachnid?
*Camel spiders are classified as being a particular type of arachnid known as Solifugae. Their jaws contain several rows of sharp teeth that take up an entire third of their body size. These jaws contain teeth that can saw through hair and even bones, which is why they are a danger to even mammalian species. The extra set of legs that these spiders possess are also known as pedilaps. The tips of these pedilaps are sticky in order to allow them to climb vertical surfaces as well as to snatch mobile prey. Unlike most other Solifugae species, these spiders do not wait to ambush unsuspecting prey; instead, they skitter across the desert floor in search of live meals. Apparently, those are mangrove roots. And about a different but similar work the New York Review gushes...
||The faceless figure is beautiful, if sinister—ideally proportioned, like Da Vinci’s Vitruvian man. His skin is a mosaic of marbled scrap paper, stained in a spectrum of pinks and grays. Five dark tendrils sprout from his head and branch across the canvas, forming a tangle of thick, tubular foliage over an underlying grid of purple rectangles. He holds one vine like a scepter; at his feet, two half-submerged figures take shoots into their mouths. Are they receiving sustenance? Or, in some peculiar way, sustaining the central figure’s power? Despite its tantalizing pictographic clarity, the image defies explanation. Prominently featured in this year’s Venice Biennale, Felipe Baeza’s monumental work Por caminos ignorados, por hendiduras secretas, por las misteriosas vetas de troncos recién cortados (2020) exemplifies the uncanny yet alluring forms that have established the thirty-five-year-old artist as one of his generation’s most inventive mythmakers. Its title, borrowed from a poem by the gay Mexican modernist Xavier Villaurrutia, suggests obscure migrations: “By unknown|| Posted by: andycanuck (Jh5b+) at July 09, 2024 09:54 AM (Jh5b+) 98

Critic's Spotlight...
Baeza’s crepuscular landscapes of blue and purple allude to the colors of the skies as migrants cross the U.S.-Mexico border at dawn. The deconstructed body parts in Baeza’s works writhe amid foliage, at times transforming into flora itself. In Emerging in Difference (2022), a male figure gazes intently at the viewer while thorny vines, forming the bottom half of a body, root in the land. Beneath the figure’s torso, amid the tangle of plant arms, is a single red hibiscus flower sprouting from a jaw bone. The image poses a solution to dire and fraught circumstances surrounding the queer brown migrant body, faced with the struggle to survive, exist, and be visible: Baeza’s scene of regeneration suggests a survival mechanism, where bodies camouflage into the land. Like Ayón, the 34-year-old Baeza also uses the process of collagraphy—a collage-like process of adhering diverse materials onto a single substrate, creating an embossed, textural surface. The limbs of Baeza’s figures are dissected, scrutinized, while the faces are rapt with expressions of longing. such as those of the central nude figure in Por caminos ignorados, por hendiduras secretos, por las misteriosas vetas de troncos recien cortados (2020), are sanded and scratched, revealing layers of process. Black vines grow from the figure’s head, making it appear like a human heart. These symbolic veins feed the mouths of two men below, their bright red torsos stuck in a black rock underworld.
Sure, there’s a yearning for place in Baeza’s work. But there is also a yearning for transcendence, for a belonging beyond place. There’s the suggestion that these evanescent bodies are already of the Earth, the land, the natural world, and will forever be in flux. I went to an art museum recently at a tony university.
And they had plenty of old art. And for the Eurasian art you can see people getting better and better at painting/sculpting/etc until around the Renaissance or a little later. They also had old aboriginal art from Africa and the New World, which was about the same as the pre-bronze age art of Eurasia which makes sense as those people were living in pre-bronze age civilizations. But then they added "modern art" from "indigenous artists" and it was obviously copying that low skill pre-bronze age art from the New World/Africa. And...it was embarrassing. If I felt I was somehow representing "indigenous people" I would want to show I was just as good as those evil white Europeans were not that I couldn't learn anything from thousands of years of learning in the arts... Though the one caveat here is the other modern art was mostly primitive in its talent as well. A bit of task talk about the illegals that are registered to vote.
Yes, this is a real problem. The danger isn't they will vote, many won't because they don't want to jeapordize their citizenship chances. The danger is those are now real ballots that the Dems will harvest and fill in for them. As always it comes down to numbers. The Dems likely have a number of these ballots they are counting on for fraud. Of course this is added into all the rest of their fraud tricks. But ballots in California and Texas don't help them much. They need these ballots in MI and PA. While they may have 10 million illegals to pull from the real question is do they have enough in the states where they need them. My opinion is this is a lot of the panic we are seeing. Trump's poll numbers are making the math hard, if Trump really is ahead by 5 in PA, the Dems could be short on the available fraudulent ballots the need to fortify. This becomes a lot harder for them if Trump turns out low propensity voters like he has in the last 2 elections. As always, YMMV Posted by: Dave in Fla at July 09, 2024 10:25 AM (JZJ3O) 217

Statistically, it blows it up. Polling aggregators are a joke. Posted by: TheJamesMadison ======== You can do such things as indexing but it often obscures more than reveals. About all you can say is that it can be useful for trend analysis but not the actual numbers. Aka ordinal level of variables. Trump is most likely leading but how much nationally cannot be figured out with the data presented because a) each poll is only one variable, and b) they do not share the same underlying error distributions due to differences in sampling frames, questions, etc. Meta analysis is a thing but works best when you have studies that a) use similar if not the same variables and b) you have known error distributions. They should have no trouble with college level work. University of Wisconsin-Madison Professor Taylor Odle told the newspaper that the practice boosts enrollment and saves money both for the student and the school. “When we think about the application as a structural barrier, it reduces that barrier for students who are most likely to fall prey to that barrier…” the education policy professor said. “ Gee, I wonder who they mean? I don’t think I anyone will claim pols are perfect predictors. To me their value is in showing trends. Is Tru p up 6? Maybe. Or maybe it’s 8 or 4. But I think when every poll out there says Trunp ahead, it’s fairly certain he is.
The counter to that of course will be 2016. And the counter to that counter is at the very end of the race, polls tightened in key states. Which goes back to my point of showing trends. Trump had the momentum at the right time and ended up winning. Posted by: Biden is Finished at July 09, 2024 11:01 AM (wCYy7) 366

Posted by: Biden is Finished at July 09, 2024 11:01 AM (wCYy7) ======== The tightening happening every single election season doesn't tell me that the electorate suddenly starts changing their minds but that polling goes from narrative building to trying to get it right in the final stretch. But even that is falling apart. 2020 was off by 7. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, laughing at the clowns with Preston Sturges at July 09, 2024 11:03 AM (GBKbO) 368

He actually thinks of himself more as an industrial engineer than a statistician, though. His expertise is experimental design.
Posted by: TheJamesMadison I am sure you know that there is a distinct difference between trying to analyze human affairs and those of uncaring physical variables. An H2O molecule that cycles through ionization and rebounding does not care that I analyze its patterns. Interviewing people changes their output often in unknown ways. Social sciences are as a result in far poorer circumstances in applying statistical models than physical and material sciences. Posted by: whig at July 09, 2024 11:05 AM (+hgea) 371

@MTJakeEaton This is fantastic. The Teacher's Union staff has its own union. That union is striking against the Teacher's union and picketing the NEA convention to raise their avg salary from $124K to $133K. I'm sure the NEA members would love those salaries. The DMV is run by the Department of Transportation. That means the DMV’s registering of illegals to vote is being run by Pete Buttigieg, the former military intelligence officer beloved by our CIA Blob class.
