  • Merle Myers did not kill himself: A former Boeing inspector says parts marked for scrap ended up being built into planes. (CNN)
Meyers, a 30-year veteran of Boeing, described to CNN what he says was an elaborate off-the-books practice that Boeing managers at the Everett factory used to meet production deadlines, including taking damaged and improper parts from the company's scrapyard, storehouses and loading docks.
This, if true, should result in felony convictions.
Beginning in the early 2000s, Meyers says that for more than a decade, he estimates that about 50,000 parts "escaped" quality control and were used to build aircraft. Those parts include everything from small items like screws to more complex assemblies like wing flaps. A single Boeing 787 Dreamliner, for example, has approximately 2.3 million parts.

Most of the parts that were meant to be scrapped were often painted red to signify they were unsuitable for assembly lines, Meyers said. Yet, in some cases, that didn't stop them from being put into planes being assembled, he said.
    Lots of felony convictions.

Yes and no. 80,000 - 100,000 displaced northerners and southerners, businesses limited, closed or totally lost, Northern and Gaza envelope towns and communities gravely damaged or destroyed.

I tend to agree with that piece of dirt, Blinken: Israel has lost its sovereignty of the north. Much of the blame is on Israel itself, regardless of the pressures imposed upon it by the Biden soviet.

35 RE the Boeing dumbassery: it's important to understand that in any FAA approved production inspection system there is an FAA guy or an FAA team (depending on the size of the production entity) who is supposed to surveil the entity and verify that the entity is following it's production manual and system, including the checks and balances. This latest dumbassery just indicates that the FAA has much to blame for Boeing's dumbassery, too. People on both sides, the regulator and the company, need to be held accountable.

59 On MeTV, The Invaders has a 1967 episode about the first flight to the moon. The flight craft, thanks to the Invaders, "explodes over the ocean 3 miles into the flight. In the real life Apollo lunar program, three astronauts perished aboard Apollo 1 after a fire consumed the capsule while still on the launch pad." (From IMDb)

Yet, as we know, the U.S. kept right on with the lunar program. If a disaster like that happened today, the entire program would be suspended pending years of exhaustive and exhausting investigations, application of new safety procedures, billions of dollars . . . and it would still be canceled. We have become a society terrified of the least discomfort or setback.

Experts agree that car-washing is one of the main drivers of climate change. The water used evaporates into the atmosphere and creates clouds, locking in the heat of the suns rays. Recommendations include ticketing cars that appear clean, and after three tickets removing them to a junk yard for crushing.

148 Degrees coming out the faucet.

So off to the heater we go and take off the access plates for the two elements.

Yup, both of them set well above the 'HOT' marking on the limit screws.

Now.....120 degrees max.

Yeah, they should have winter and summer settings. Some of the high end boilers that I've looked into have outdoor sensors and adjust the hot water temperature accordingly.

The run length and pipe insulation (if you have any) are two other variables. Last year I tore out the ceiling in my garage and installed about 60 feet of pipe insulation, then repaired the ceiling. Amazing difference in how long hot water stays hot now. My wife gets up at seven am say, and pulls the hot water into the bathroom. Three hours later I turn a faucet on to wash my hands and the water is hot within a second or two.

138 ""148 Degrees coming out the faucet."

That is way too hot. "

Yup.

That's why I brought it back down to 120 degrees.

The furthest shower from the heater has thermal limits, so I suspect they decided for higher tank temps, and allow the limits to keep the shower safe.
But the sinks don't have that luxury.

Anyhow, it's a 50gallon tank, with twin 4,500 watt heating elements.
And all the faucets have flow limiters, so it's not like it's gonna get all the hot water sucked out of it in a hurry. And all the pipes are insulated as well.

So, I think we'll be fine now.

197 China vs Taiwan...
Just lobbing hundreds of ballistic missiles at military targets doesn't necessarily mean the country will simply lay down for China.

A full scale invasion would probably take months, if not a year, to prep for. If that's what Xi intends.

The movement of ships and aircraft to support any offensive actions (aside from lobbing missiles) would likely be observable.

I personally think China's already infiltrated enough of Taiwan's government and critical infrastructure to do a soft coup... like they did here.

198 Deer haven't been bad this year in the Bitterroot Valley, the gophers on the other hand are attempting to wipe out vegetation. We've had a population explosion of the little bastards all over the valley. My theory is that the abnormally frigid temps over the winter months ramped up their breeding instincts and with 2 cycles of producing offspring they've been overcompensating keeping their species going. Reproduce to survive in massive numbers. By the way gopher is an all inclusive term for every rat, squirrel and weasel like critter in the area. I have been waging a 3 year battle against Columbian ground squirrels and pocket gophers. I'm currently losing the battle.

I once got involved in testing the air handlers of an indoor range by using colored smoke bombs. We were working on (at my insistence) converting from straight evacuator fans to a positive pressure plenum with baffles on the exhaust pickups.

Several pretty good 'rump' engineers were in on the project, who could do arithmetic and everything, and we thought we had progressed beyond the cigarette-held-aloft and wet-finger-in-breeze stage. We all got a quick education in just how complex aero engineering really is. Upshot? It is damn hard to push smoke.

Most media polls are trash to begin with and any movement right now is chiefly due to random fluctuations in sampling. Summer is a particularly difficult time for pollsters due to vacays, more time spent outdoors, and so on. Plus, you have the shift from registered voters to likely by some pollsters which generally is not appropriate until September or so.

Last time I checked, Trump is doing better in the registered and all voter screens than likely voters. This is partially due to Trump appealing to casual voters while the true Dems are pretty much locked in at their 40 some odd percentage (varies by state).

Trump's people have not said much this go around but I think we are looking at the same turnout strategy in 2020 and this is a personal constituency--not for the GOP itself (much as Nixon's silent majority was in 1972). Combined with preference cascading, looks like 1980 where the map expands too rapidly for the incumbent to counter. Don't think adding Kamala to the mix (which at this late stage is probably the only thing the Dems can do differently) helps.

Lower propensity voters, by and large, are reactive and essentially vote against far more than for a party in power. The US is not exempt from the trends being seen in Western Europe where the general population has had it with illegals, net zero crap, massive inflation in basic living standards, and endless wars. These folks don't know what they want but can easily determine what they don't want and that is generally whoever is in power.

Not really a right or left issue. As a bonus, the media is now down for most voters at the same level as politicians for credibility. Basically (and I think you see a bit of this in polling), only the boomers and silents pay much attention to the MSM anymore.

Younger voters 18-34 are moving actually to the right and these are the most disconnected from the DNC MSM axis. Influencers, texts, and ads, don't overcome shitty actual conditions for voters.

Strange times and the old rules seem to be failing in application. Basically the Obama machine including the cheating machine has aged out because of internal contradictions.

Video just came out showing them all piling out of the back of a U-Haul truck.

They are all in their "uniform" with masks on when they get out.

274 The issue of bad parts finding their way back into production is "Who benefits?" Who is getting some money out of clandestine high-tech dumpster diving? People who do this are risking their jobs.

So someone pulled a box of non-conforming parts out of the cage and falsified a bunch of paperwork to get the parts back in production. Do you know how hard it is to do this? And how does this person benefit? Someone is paying them? What is the incentive other than making a production bonus and those are usually scrutinized at a couple of levels.

I know it happens but I really don't think it happens very often and it's certainly harder when the parts are part of a critical apparatus.

275 "Video just came out showing them all piling out of the back of a U-Haul truck. "

Did anyone ever track down who had rented that particular U-Haul truck for that day?

277 Thanks for posting Pixy Misa! My employer has spent 5 years trying to move us over from TPS (Clarion) to SQL. Next, we will need to convert all applications of our crude ERP to C#. We will probably try to use ChatGPT to convert some of the simpler applications. Fun times.

280 "Like the ability to fail upwards:"

I see a lot of cases where you have execs/VP's in charge of technical shit who fail to understand that at some level they have to stop filling seats with upwards-failing retards and actually delegate to those who know how to do things, lest you get the "this person in charge of IT shit has a music degree resulting in a massive breach" problem. And you have to do it at a high enough level to properly supervise your people in the trenches, enforcing functional practices.

I have seen A LOT of real world examples. Most recently some cost-cutting MBA Grima Wormtongue jackass convinced our higher ups to move from a custom datacenter to some cheapass AWS bullshit which cost us about 100 million dollars on the first day it was supposed to go live. The dot-not-feather fucktards over there failed in a mind-blowing number of ways all at the same time.

282 99% of "AI" work these days seems to just be people trying to hide the fact that nobody knows how to make a generalized information model or even what one might look like.

283 F*ck you, Merle Meyers, if you knew faulty parts were being reused in Boeing aircraft since THE EARLY 2000's and you're only now coming forward.

284 Meyers has no business flapping his gums unless he has evidence. Evidence is easy, they have to retain the records forever so what part, what date, what job number would be all you would need to have an investigation turn up something.

As they say extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
