Jack, in one of your posts today, you closed with "Kamikaze pilots had better chances than that" or something similar. I'm still laughing.
Does this debacle of late perhaps answer the age old debate, is the media the propaganda arm of the Democrat party or, are the democrats the legislative wing of the Media outlets? Until now they could fairly be considered joined at the hip at least for people not paying too much attention, of which there are apparently a considerable number. I can say that without protective "cover", any politician is in deep trouble. They may not ever always be able to help you, but they can always hurt you. I'm sure being "neutral" looks a whole lot like being "unfair!" to someone enjoying special favors from the media. Posted by: Common Tater at July 02, 2024 10:37 PM (TC8RU) 139

1. The Russians caught a squadron of Su-27 fighter-bombers on the ground, and took out a half dozen irreplaceable aircraft with one missile strike. This does not bode well for the F-16s that are still awaiting delivery. 2. Orban, the President of Hungary, proposed a ceasefire. Not surprisingly, Zelensky rejected it. 3. Polynikes - some years ago as a sort of left-handed view towards prepping, I bought a pair of $6 (delivered) electric hair clippers on that famous auction site. The quality wasn't bad at all, and I still use them.
When the WuHan lung rot ensued I became even more of a reclusive individual (nothing changed much) mainly because my longtime barber died. They work perfectly fine, with attachment combs. Just sort of comb your hair with clippers and it won't look too much different than a barber. Getting a professional cut once in a while will keep it looking better. I also discovered the clippers work as a passable razor for beards, too. They will trim down to a respectable looking 5 o'clock shadow - or getting the deep jungle growth hacked away to a suitable height, if further razor use is considered it will be much easier to get a close shave. Great item to have on hand! Posted by: Common Tater at July 02, 2024 10:44 PM (TC8RU) 160

When did that change, then? The "Journos" took out Nixon, with an assist from the deep state one might surmise. Carter - the press really turned on him, it is said, after he cut off the White House press corps catering of caviar and well stocked booze cart with hot dogs and kool-aid or somesuch. Carter was, get this, serious about cutting back the spending in government. They were kinda pissed off at him before that, but that opened the floodgates. It soon emerged, for example, that the famous briefcase that Carter was seen carrying around the White House lawn to and fro was, get this - empty - . It was a prop, along with rolled up sleeves, the "going to work for the American people" schtick that soon blew up. Somewhere in there he got attacked by a rabbit whilst in his canoe out on a lake, and this was made big news. Posted by: Common Tater at July 02, 2024 10:50 PM (TC8RU) 171

I did not think this until just now but I do think they will re-place Joe Biden, and go with someone else.
Gerald Connolly, A carpet bagging democrat from Northern Virginia basically called for Biden to be replaced. Sure, he didn’t say those exact words, but that is what he called for and it’s on the net. For a status like Connolly to come out with this no way this guy is going to reach too far out above his skis. I don’t want them to replace Biden and write up until now. In 1952 von Braun's reusable rocket design was published. Named "Rocket", the design had 51 engines and had 14,000 tons of thrust. Musk's Starship, has a total of 39 engines and has 16,700,000 lb thrust. [ A mathematician will need to convert 14,000 tons of thrust into pounds.]
Today, seventy three years later, Werner's vision is becoming a realization. His engines, his space station; What else? Ike could have capitalized on this. Starship is 29.5 ft in diameter,233 ft tall. Rocket was to be 50 ft in diameter and 318 ft tall. The power to weight ratio is in Musk's favor, I think. The people at his rallies. That was the sum total of his debate prep, rallies. The Democratic Party may be about to disintegrate. I spend a little time on this, but in my understanding, Jim Clyburne Has positioned himself as kingmaker. He saved Biden in South Carolina because I guess he thinks he control South Carolina and the African-American vote there. Vintage School and Children's books are available online for perusal, it's fun to re-read favorites of childhood sometimes. My brothers almost pre-dated the Apollo years, we had a large book filled with "artists conceptions" of how the spacecraft and a trip to the moon might look. It was really cool, and completely wrong, although futuristic. I suspect it was published in about 1960, right in there - clearly before Lunar Orbit Rendezvous had been established.
I actually looked for it, couldn't have been a rare book, but I was unable to locate it. There are a LOT of really cool science fiction books from the 30s thru the 60s, mucho movies and toys and the rest of it. What really made me feel old - I remember when the Saturn V vehicle looked so much more real than the Buck Rogers style rockets and that "styling" in the movies. Then I watched all these Buck Rogers rockets launch in the last couple years, and land backwards on the ground and the rest of it. Elon Musk noted that stainless steel has unique properties in terms of cost versus strength for making rockets. It's not all that much stronger than aluminium say, at normal temperatures. At cryo temps it's great. Posted by: Common Tater at July 02, 2024 11:32 PM (TC8RU) 265

Operation Paperclip was named, because the packet of each prospective detainee's dossier was marked with a paperclip to mean he was considered OK.
They took some circuitous route, eventually entering the US from Mexico, and on to Huntsville, Alabama eventually. They had to scrub all those guys records though, as US law in no uncertain terms said ya can't emigrate to the US of A if you was on the wrong side in WWII. So they had all these official F.B.I. and Army interrogation files. "Incorrigible blah blah" and then somebody would write "Not an Ardent Nazi" which meant they were good to go. Hm. 264, I always remembered a story we read in school for some reason. I didn’t think about it often, but once in a blue moon, the memory of that story came around. I think it was the first time I even thought about foreign locations and traveling abroad, etc. I don’t even know when I read it in school. I don’t know if it was grammar or junior high or what. But I remembered the basic plot.
I looked it up a couple of times and I looked it up, not too long ago ago and finally found it. It is a very very short story. It was a magazine article from I think the 50s or 60s. This is back when writers would write stories for magazines, and for some reason this thing a guy wrote decades ago for a magazine is still a thing and has been taught in schools. I only remembered the most threadbare parts of the story about a kid swimming to a rock. But since I found it again on the Internet, that was a really great story with a really great lesson and example. The thing I love the best about that short story is there were no bad guys, There was a major challenge, and there was human frailty, But unlike almost every story we see today, Everyone involved was trying to do the exact right thing. Gotta wonder. Glad he didn't fall into the Soviet sphere, however. Kurt Debus and Arthur Rudolf were the other two main administrators at the cape. The former was right out of central casting, with this huge scar on one side o his face. Rudolf was deported briefly back to Germany in the 1980s. Trump can be only taken down By his own people. Just like in his first term, it was his own people Americans who did everything they could to stop him is worse.
Look at the French, They want to make France great again, just like we do, But they are all gonna find a way to get all the people from their own country who hate themselves together and stop it from happening. People are amazed that the so-called right in France is winning and could win in a few days, but all the crazies there are getting together and coordinating and they will do anything they can and everything they can to stop it. This thing with the right winning in France early in election and then at the end being stopped is not new. It’s a normal thing. Just like how when Trump won he was attacked even before he went into office and they attacked him every day. He was in office and then they attacked him more after he left office. Did my good deed for the day. Went to the grocery store in town. Out front, there was a Nissan coupe with its hood up, and a guy messing around under there. Did my shopping, came out; he's still there.
"Hey, buddy, need a hand?" "I just about have this beat." I go look. Battery is out of the car, on the ground, and the guy has a motorcycle battery in the battery tray, and is tying the battery cables of the car to the little battery with, I shit you not, twist ties. He said, "Well the battery went dead, but I'm sure I can start it off this motorcycle battery." I said, well, you get in the car, and when I say ready, you turn the key to crank it." And I grabbed the two battery cables, and held them forcefully against the terminals on the battery. Surprisingly, the car started right up! And then he shut it off! I said, "Maybe you should leave it running until we can stick the regular battery back in, so it can get charged?" He thought that was a brilliant idea, so once more I exposed my tender body to the full fury of 12 angry volts, and the car started. We swapped in the dead battery, and it continued to run, and I went on my merry way. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at July 02, 2024 11:59 PM (jYYer) 317

Pagans dancing and the beasts spinning, burnt offerings, orange smoke swirling, maybe a sacrifice in the offing. "our Germans can beat your Germans". I actually mentioned this to a German once, he took it in the manner intended, but I can tell it stung a little. They did suffer quite a brain drain after the unpleasantness, enough to interfere with their rebuilding efforts, which nobody wanted them to be able to do for some strange reason.
It must have been a crazy time to be alive - the US government had 15 minutes total "space" time under its belt, having lobbed Alan Shepard into space a little higher than the average fireworks display, when Kennedy gave a speech to congress saying "We choose to go to the moon...." Everybody thought that was nuts. He wanted something that could show the superiority of the free market system, something tangible to show the US was head and shoulders above the Soviet Union in space, though that wasn't evident at all at the time. Mississippi John Hurt played fingerstyle like few others ever mastered. I like his version of "Stagger Lee"; he was one of the original 30s swamp musicians recorded by John Lomax or one of those guys, and re-introduced to college tour audiences in the 1960s during the Folk Scare.
They had tracked him down, and he was still doing pretty much what he was doing in the 1930s. He needed a guitar to go on tour, and the sponsors took him to a guitar shop and said basically he could have anything he wanted. Martin guitars are renowned (and expensive) but he just chose a mid grade Guild guitar. He re-recorded some of his early pieces. The difference between the old and new "Stagger Lee" is interesting. He only uses a few chords, but it is very intricate and fast playing, with a beautiful melody line in the 1960s version. He also guested on the old commie Pete Seeger's show, and played "Spike Driver Blues" basically in one chord position - G. But I defy anyone to play like that. He was one of the best in a lot of ways. Posted by: Common Tater at July 03, 2024 01:13 AM (TC8RU) 405

True Fact: DeForest Kelley had a small role as a medic in some film 9 years before Star Trek. One of his few lines was, "This man is dead, Captain" spoken to Gregory Peck. I'm trying to remember, but I think he played a doctor in some other role before Star Trek and did some variation of the "Dammit, I'm a doctor, not a xxxxx". 411 The Gen Z victim mentality bothers me. You all know the math, they don't have it harder. 1978 avg house was $62,500. Or about $360k in 2024 USD vs. Inflation price of $319k.. Accounting for interest rates, Gen Z has it marginally better but near equal - as the populous leverages. The whining is tiresome.
Posted by: scampydog at July 03, 2024 01:21 AM (41CYW) Problem is that wages have not kept up with the rise in household prices. 1978 median household income was 15K.... now its just a tad under 60K... So while wages went up 4X... House prices went up 6X. Car prices are WAYYYY worse... You could get a Hot rod Camaro back then for about 6K.... now its 60K.... 10 times the price. Well, it wasn't really Roman homos either, it was somewhat modern astronomers trying to use Roman home like calendar cycles. The Julian period is when a cycle of three separate intervals resets. This period is 7,980 (Julian) years long. The reference epoch for the Julian date is High Noon over the Prime Meridian, Jan 1, 4713 BC proleptic Julian, or Nov. 24, 4714 BC proleptic Gregorian. The Julian date is the number of days elapsed since then. THe decimal Julian Date was what Gene Rodenberry wanted his "star date" to sound like, which he thought sounded all futuristic and cool. Oh, "proleptic" means extending a calendar scheme backwards in time. Now, you and me might think "retro" or retroactive would be the proper terminology. A "retroleptic/retroactive calendar". Nope, the homos that came up with this, decided that rather than "now", going back in time, we should think of "now" as in the past", and using a future calendar. That's the "pro-" vs "retro-". It doesn't jibe with my thinking, but that's how the astro time homos decreed it. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at July 03, 2024 03:20 AM (w6EFb) 470
