First-World Problems...

That's one of the mounting screws supplied by EZ-Pass (the toll transponder system around here) to mount their external transponders on a license plate. Great idea! I certainly don't want it stolen and used by someone else.

Except...what about when the transponder dies...as they always do? Anyone have a handy tool to unscrew it?

And let us be honest...anyone who would steal a transponder will be prepared with the appropriate tool.

Estate sale had 2 cast iron benches which the Betterhalf *really* wanted.
I drive over with trunk and put them upside down in the bed so I don't have to tie them down.
I notice that 2 of the 8 legs is missing the rubber foot so I take one of them out, figure out the size and order 8 which come in last evening.
Mean while someone who shall remain nameless sheers 2 of the brass bolts and I stop her from doing any more 'work' on the rest.
Now I have to figure out how to get the threaded brass out of the cast iron.
Extractors suck. I can't weld a nut on to the remaining.
I'm attempting to loosen them with vinegar and I'll use a penetrating oil after the vinegar soaks.

46 Yes, there is a tool to remove security screws like that.

It's a screwdriver (or screwdriver bit) with to round prongs at the end, which engage across the 'flats' at 90 degrees from the main 'slot'. They come in different sizes to accomodate the different sizes of security screws.

I've also seen a youtube of a gunsmith using blue masking tape and a flathead screwdriver to defeat the thing. Mossberg uses them to attach the safety on M590s (and probably 500s, although I haven't looked).

There are tools that will extract a "security screw", but they are very specific to a particular screw size, because they encircle the head of the screw with a sleeve to get the necessary leverage. Measure the screw head diameter to figure the size ( #10, M5, etc) and search for "one way screw extractor".

That's how I did it (sans cocaine). Basic process was: menthols -> cinnamon nicotine vape -> ramp-down to non-nicotine vape -> dead 18650s -> done.

Last week, during a rainstorm, both my neighbor's and my maple lost bits and they ended up against my house. Only apparent damage - slightly bent gutters. However the tree must go as it is rotten, as is the other maple near it. These trees are probably as old as the house, so approx. 70 years.
My question, would house insurance pay to remove the trees? I'm with State Farm but before I call and be told that I need to file a claim and then they'll come and look, I would like to know from someone who may have had a similar experience.

Something that helped me tremendously was moving to a pipe. It's a different type of "smoking" and one that isn't a rushed or hurried or "I'm going to go stand out here in the rain to grab a smoke during a break" type of experience. I still smoke the pipe and enjoy it, especially when fishing, but I'm no longer in any habit of smoking.

Jolly Ranchers, Blow-Pops, etc. help, too. I hope you can get over the cold turkey hump to where you have it beat. If you can't, pick up a $7 corncob pipe and some decent aromatic tobacco and just quit inhaling.

FWIW, Triangular files work okay to sharpen pipe wrench jaws. Diamond needle tipped files work even better but take longer.

The lazy way is to buy a cheap import pipe wrench and substitute the bottom jaw. The cheap ones are pretty generous with tolerances so makes it easier to retrofit.

The bubba way to fix worn pipe wrench teeth is to use emery cloth or sandpaper in between jaws and object being turned.

That works well if the rags are cotton or linen especially with stickum like rosin. When I was changing firearm barrels though, I used soft lead, rosin, and sometimes aluminum/copper/bronze shims to get a good grip without leaving marks from my barrel vises. Some of them require a four foot cheater pipe over the wrench handle to remove.

Chevron though combined with Jarkesy case though is going to make it difficult for the regulatory agencies to punish disfavored individuals and groups through mock court proceedings.

Regarding the screws for the EZ-Pass transponder, I would try the cyanoacrylate glue plus baking soda trick. You likely would need two people to execute it.

1. Hold a regular single slot screwdriver in the approximately vertical slot of the pictured screw.
2. Apply a small amount of cyanoacrylate in one of the two "scooped" portions of the screw.

3. Immediately apply a pinch of baking soda on top of the wet cyanoacrylate glue.
4. Let the mixture cure to hardness.

5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 in the other "scooped" portion of the screw.
6. The cured regions presumably would have converted the formerly unremovable screw to ine that can be unscrewed.

7. Remove the cyanoacrylate / baking soda bumps by chipping or grinding them away.
8. Mount the new transponder using the cleaned screws.

I believe Hunter is still on the hook for California Tax Evasion charges with trial set to begin in a few weeks/months. Even here in 'liberal' California you don't mess with the Franchise Tax Board. California taxes joint income over 136 K /year at 9.3%. Also capital gains are taxed as regular income no matter how long the holding period.

He is. Because the Delaware judged tossed his plea agreement which basically gave him immunity for anything he had previously done.

The plea agreement called for him to get diversion for the gun charge and to plead guilty to 2 misdemeanor tax charges. The judge said LOL FGY. That's why he is facing felony tax charges.
