The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“We knew Trump’s mic would be muted during the debate, but we didn’t know his campaign’s mic would be muted before it. You can go on CNN and lie about Trump, Russia, call Republicans racist, Nazis, but you can’t say Tapper’s biased. If Jake’s not biased, why is he celebrating Trump losing?” Jesse Watters

Quote II

“I have a great deal of confidence they are looking at it very hard and they would not commit to the de-orbit of a spacecraft that was unsafe,” Wayne Hale, the former NASA space shuttle program director

Quote III

“We have succeeded in landing a compromise on a CO2 tax, which lays the groundwork for a restructured food industry -– also on the other side of 2030.” Maria Reumert Gjerding,The Danish Society for Nature Conservation (DSNC)

When Donald Trump was still in office on occasion I would watch Hannity on Fox. I recall him saying there were good people in the FBI. And I would ask the following question: Where are these supposed “good guys” in the FBI and DoJ? Nothing has changed since I asked that question.

Think about Hunter Biden’s laptop. Hundreds, if not thousands of people knew the laptop was real. Yet they remained silent as a planned and coordinated lie was used to sway the 2020 election -- to say nothing of ignoring the fact it clearly shows that President Biden is a traitor to this country. Those who remained silent deserve nothing but our complete and total contempt -- for all time.

Our Founding Fathers knowingly confronted the greatest military in the world and pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to each other in their demand for freedom. And they all paid a very high price -- but their honor remained intact and celebrated by some of us to this very day.

What we see today is a sick, sad inversion of this incredible moral courage. Now they sell their sacred honor for a monthly paycheck and retirement benefits. I hope those benefits help assuage their secret pain of their being an insult to the very concept that hundreds of thousands of Americans have willingly given their lives.

It has been observed that both courage and cowardice are highly contagious. Sadly, cowardice is the default position in government and has been for years. Until this ends, I don’t need to hear any more about these mythical government employees who are anything but “honest, hardworking, patriotic Americans.”

Maybe they should have spent the money on Hip-Hoppers so they could learn at least 3 chords. Don’t Oppress My People With Your White-Ass Folk Music

University of Sheffield researchers handed taxpayer cash to ‘decolonise’ folk singing.
A mere £1,485,400, since you ask. A gnat’s eyelash. For an issue of such fundamental importance to the turning of the world.

The project… has also been granted extra funds on top of this from bodies such as Research England.
Whew. I was getting worried there.

Taking place at the University of Sheffield, researchers “will take an unflinching look at the white-centricity of folk music repertory, performers and audience by conducting fieldwork to shed light on long-standing vernacular singing practices of ethnic minority cultures in England.”

25 Evening.

Posted in the last thread, but might as well repost it here for those that missed it.

or those planning to attend the TXMoMe, if you're coming down I-20 West right next to the Texas Welcome Center rest area is a tiny restaurant called Yard Bird. I think it's kind of new, but I saw it the last couple of time I stopped there. This time I *remembered it*. It's a tiny little place. Cozy, you might say.

Got myself an alligator andouille sausage poboy with potato salad and a *looks left* *looks right* a strawberry milkshake.

Very good! I'm so gaw'damned full. I gotta eat there again. Good food, the young man working there was super polite and gracious and the food came out quick. Did I mention I'm full?

Worth checking out if you're driving down.

Can't find a website. Just look up "Yard Bird LLC, Waskom TX" on Google Maps.

90 Too early for a joke? (Copy pasta sorry for wall o text)

Three women go down to Mexico one night, get drunk, and wake up in jail, only to find that they are to be executed in the morning, though none of them can remember what they did the night before.
The first one, a redhead, is strapped in the electric chair, and is asked if she has any last words. She says, "I am from Grace University, and believe in the almighty power of God to intervene on the behalf of the innocent," They throw the switch and nothing happens.
They all immediately prostrate themselves; beg for her forgiveness, and release her.
The second one, a brunette, is strapped in and gives her last words, "I am from the Creighton School of Law and I believe in the power of justice to intervene on the part of the innocent." They throw the switch and again, nothing happens.
Again, they all immediately prostrate themselves; beg for her forgiveness, and release her.
The last one, a blonde, is strapped in and says, "Well, I'm from the University of Alabama, Huntsville and just graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and I'll tell you right now, you ain't gonna electrocute nobody if you don't plug this thing in."

108 100 Euros per cow penalty for farting cows. Well, that does get passed on pretty directly to the consumer.

Unlike China Tariffs, which may get passed on, or maybe not, depending on the profit margin of China goods. I think we saw .. NO, tariffs do NOT equate to increased prices for Americans. China took the hit from their profit margins to maintain dominance. Tariffs can make America great again, by imposing a cost on China for their slave labor and massive pollution, AND just their Hate for Liberty.

But Europe's cows ... they don't have the same profit margin, and their government hates them, does not think like China. Global Warming is all insane globalist nonsense anyways.

If you can read a map pretty well, there are some places that are perfectly legal to camp with excellent views of the valley. I expect if you have the time and get to know the locals all sorts of arrangements can be had, but I didn't have that luxury. I spent quite a while poking around out there.

This is the way all leftwing "negotiation" seems to work.

They demand X dollars in tribute from the people, the people want $0 taken, and their "representatives" give them some percentage of the demand. If it is less then 100% is is a "compromise".

Of course in a year or two the left gets what they wanted originally in their first "negotiation" because the people never, ever get what they want...

Per the Paraguayan paper ABC Color, it was a combination of terrible economic conditions, and the head of the Bolivian army being replaced over his public accusations of the previous President of corruption.

Not a lot of good guys to be found in a coup, generally. Even if the intentions are decent, it boils down to how many people the winner has to keep sweet to stay in power, and being lucky to figure out who those people are.

172 Evening, ONTers! Evening, MisHum! I had a witty comment to post on the preceding thread, and poof! the power goes out. Widespread outage it seems, power company didn't even try to estimate a time to restore, because they don't know the cause. Me? I think a sudden calm shut down all the damfool wind generators, and the backups tripped out from overload.

I am running on Coleman Generator power. Doggone thing has not been run for several years. Went to put fuel in it, and the tank smelled real skunky. Fueled up, open the tank cock, wrapped the starting rope around the pulley, and "poppity pop pop pop." Gave it a second pull, and Zoom! It was off and running.

Needless to say, I pulled the pole switch, cutting me off from the grid, before I even began to mess with the generator. When I see the neighbor's shop lights come on, I will power down the generator, and switch the grid back on.

Posted by: Kindltot at June 26, 2024 11:15 PM (D7oie)

Speaking of bad juju, I shouldn't have bragged on my little generator. Went out to check it, and it's roaring away lustily, in the middle of a huge pool of...oil. And inside the plastic cover on the generator end, I could see random blue sparks. I think a solder joint on one of the 3 panel fuse holders went bad. That would explain the flickering lights. Good thing that pool was oil, and not gasoline, because the generator would have started a fire. The screw cap for the oil filler on the crankcase was lying loose on the floor; it must have vibrated free, I guess. So I shut the poor thing down, unplugged it from my 220 extension cord, and went to the pole and threw the pole switch. Power is back! I will clean up the mess tomorrow. And it is quite a mess, indeed.

It could well be that he meant it as a joke, or as a sort of hyperbolic reference to how disjointed the Establishment is in relation to the people under their authority. Still, though, strange.

Posted by: AZ deplorable moron at June 26, 2024 11:41 PM (2SdT7)

Well, in extreme conditions, like black ice on the road, applying the brakes could induce a skid because the different tread patterns have different traction properties at the very limit. For normal driving, it matters not a whit, as long as the two rear tires are the same effective diameter. Mismatched diameter, over many, many miles, would lead to premature wear of the differential gears. I will shop for a used tire to match one or the other, and change it at my leisure.

The out-of-province inspection is 1: a money grab by the Province, 2: justified by the dumping of poorly rebuilt write-offs from Ontario and Quebec into Western Provinces. It tends to be more rigorous than a basic safety inspection. Brake pads, for example, need to be 60% or better to pass, even though they are safe to use almost down to the metal.

I was reading up on Ishtar, to match against the Tiger Grandmother (Asian version of Red Ridinghood) that my wife told me when we were dating.

Ishtar is shown naked since she had to go to the Underworld to recover a servant girl she lost through inattention. At each gate in the underworld she had to pay passage with a bit of clothing, and fortunately there were only 7 gates.

The grandmother was returning with millet pancakes to feed her twin grandchildren, and was mugged by a tiger who took her food, her clothes and eventually her arms and legs and finally her life, which I thought was an interesting parallel.
then again, Sambo has to trade his clothing for his life when getting treed by the tigers, too.

308 In the tonier areas of SoCal there are shops that advertise Llanteros Usada. You can pick up a tire for like $50 and its guaranteed to last 200 miles. (Paved roads only.) the downside is, it's pure chance if it matches any of your other tires.

Lots of those llanteras in Arizona, too. I like those guys; good workers, and the price is right. Here in Canada, we have Kijiji, a marketplace like Craigslist (also here). It's not too uncommon to find singles or pairs of real good used tires, the result of somebody changing out a set, and having one or two good ones from the take-offs. I'm not going to sweat it. Well, that's just his opinion. Electrons have mass, and that can be measured. In fact the experiment to measure the meas of the electron is a classic of modern physics, and is so easy, that high school kids can do it. Millikan-Thompson experiment, IIRC. But that "particle" could just be a little knot of condensed energy. But electrons (and protons and neutrons, too) have real and observable effects.

My oddball conspiracy thought experiment...

The government made contact with "aliens" sometime around the end of the cold war. These aliens have been pushing the US/allied governments in the woke direction which is why the elites are so monolithically aligned.

325 One thing that I wonder about. They keep talking about Helium leaks. Calling it a propellant.

I wondered about that, if there was a change. Well no. Helium is used to pressurize the system, which uses hypergolic propellants. These are two separate chemicals that ignite on contact. Something like Hydrazine 50 and Nitrogen Tetroxide. That's the propellant. The Helium just keeps the whole system plussed up and pressurized, so there are no empty lines or hesitation on firing.

What I'm getting at, is it possible for the helium to leak, without leaking the hypergolics? Beats me, but that is a problem because they are so corrosive.

Leakage of the actual propellant, and accumulating inside or between panels and components would be a bad thing. At minimum it sort of looks like they don't want anyone to know what they use for propellants. Helium sounds really benign.

reverse engineering would show up in manufacturing, or out of the blue inventions on the level of the musket arriving in Japan. Most inventions since the end of WWII can be tracked to earlier research or earlier theories. I have joked that the one true transformational invention that stepped far beyond the tech of the day was the Wright Flyer, which appears to have used a level of annealing Aluminum in the powertrain parts that was not thought of at the time it was made.

The history of the transistor is pretty well understood. Shockley and Bardeen. The fact that semiconductors could oscillate and amplify had been known for 20-odd years. People were building oscillators using zinc oxide in the 1920's. And an oscillator has to amplify, even if just a little, to get the necessary positive feedback.

Should be in the Tech thread
The chemicals for the thrusters are unsymmetrical-dimethylhydrazine (a liquid) and N2O4 (a gas but easily liquified so liquid at Space temperatures). N2O4 is the oxidant. The inert helium keeps both under pressure thus not requiring pumps. The hydrazine "burns" in N2O4 producing N2, H2O and minor others, all gases. If you watch a Falcon taking off/landing, and as seen from the onboard cameras, you can see the white clouds sporadically spurting sideways as they keep the rocket upright.
Kerosene is used in the main engines for power. Also liquid methane is used in some rockets but kerosene is liquid and non-corrosive.

One fellow who worked in Cameroun told me that a lot of old pagan beliefs lingered there and resulted in manifestations that were terrifying and quite potent.

Now, was that minister speaking of the power of belief? I'm physics guy... Navy Nuc School type,.

Yes, there was some precursor work.. that could have lead to a serious increase in technology... but its like saying Tesla lead to our current grid...

There are some 'advancements' that don't make sense... this... for Me? is one

And I say this as someone who has been on the forefront of technology his entire life.

377 Starliner is basically a 7/5 scale Apollo shape, by design.

Because Apollo was THAT GOOD a re-entry design, being intended to hit the atmosphere at +24,000 mph from Lunar Insertion with NO intermediate orbit, to slow it down to 17,500 mph Orbital Speed before re-entry.

Info: Apollo and Starliner, both feature slightly off-center Top Dead Center of Heat Shield ablative coating and insulation contour. The system as a whole works better, if the capsule holds about a 1 or 1.5 degree "cant" through the worst of the reentry descent.

And Starliner is upsized to hold what..7 or so crew? Not to mention the NOT 1960s electronics.

And if you're NOT an I.T. pro, have YOUR I.T. pro, load Win 7 Classic Shell over the top of the damn thing. It'll still be running "10".

But YOUR user experience will be the warmly comfortable and familiar Win 7 screens and menus, all the way through... for the most part.

If I wanted my Laptop to have screens like a cel fone app. I'd have used cel fone apps.

382 Buc-ee's is the Big Beaver you want in your locale.

Great store. Low gas prices. Great wages. Great foods. Great homewares. Great clothing and accessories, in with the branded dreck.

And damn few "cheap souvenirs" in the mix.

Best Jerky Counter, most have ever seen. IGNORE the Wall of Jerky. That's all packaged crap. Buy from the Deli Counter of Jerky Goodness. That's where the free samples reside.

395 Or was he talking about something being very real despite Western scientific notions?
Posted by: John Drake'

I'm noncommittal on this subject. I'm infamous for being a brutal rationalist in the Orthodox Church, as it's my opinion EOC did not handle its collision with Modern Science very well and have done quite a bit of work at least partially resolving how EOC dogma *can* be explained by result: that is, the mystical aspects have reasons and do work, whether you believe in them or not. My usual quote is, "You don't have to know HOW it works, for it to work."
I avoid making statements about the existence of an actual Devil for instance, although there may very well be. I've done extensive studies on the 'physics' of Magic even though I think it's horseshit; and for all I know it's real, I just don't engage with it, like I don't engage with some mystical aspects of EOC.

Posted by: LenNeal at June 27, 2024 03:28 AM (bFId9)

396 Mexican Magic is what I know best, due to my personal experiences and my very good Mexican Satanist friend; he does wholly believe in a panoply and hierarchy of spirits, Good and/or Evil. I find him an invaluable resource for understanding pre-Christian (and even pre-monotheist) Pagan Magic, really interesting. The key is seeing the Universe as finite: there is only 'so much' of everything, pre-physics it's just regarded as 'Energy', so there is no concept of any unilateral gift from God, only transactions: to get something, one must give something: there are no gifts in Magic, the concept is unknown.

Posted by: LenNeal at June 27, 2024 03:34 AM (bFId9)

397 My Mexican friend's arms are covered in scars: 'cutting'. I asked him about it, if it was some you know mental disorder and he quite reasonably explained he 'gives blood': he expends blood-Energy if he wants something from his gods, like the Mayans and Aztecs did. He regards expending his own blood as Positive, ethical, as distinct from what he regards as Negative Energy practitioners (Black Magicians) who expend *other peoples'* blood when they want something. He regards that as wholly unethical and the source of most of Mexico's problems.
I admit, IN MEXICAN CONTEXT, my friend is quite ethical: he rescues lost animals, treats people well, gives to the poor, etc.
He regards the sacrifice of animals and people as unethical.

Glad to hear it. Looking at them is kind of disturbing for me, as if I'd used that European style of dashes instead of quote marks. I always use the same kind of quotes in Word. So I don't know why his mounting of the story had trouble in some places and not others.

Anyway: I had fun writing them, as I recall (2007 and 2008? Another world!), and I'm sure you'll have fun reading them.

406 Now I must work up the motivation to work out. I've done only two sessions this week, I need to do three and should do four. Exhausting to think about, but I will feel better once I've gone.

Perhaps I'll relax with a pipe of Sir Walter Raleigh this evening for the debate.
