Judge Juan Merchan has partially lifted the gag order he imposed against former President Trump -- weeks after the jury found him guilty on all counts.
Trump and his legal team have been fighting the gag order since it was imposed upon him at the start of the trial, but had ramped up their efforts when it concluded last month. The former president and presumptive Republican nominee's legal team had argued the gag order should be lifted before the June 27 presidential debate.
Merchan's gag order barred Trump from making or directing others to make public statements about witnesses with regard to their potential participation or about counsel in the case -- other than Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg -- or about court staff, DA staff or family members of staff.
Merchan on Tuesday partially lifted the gag order because the trial has concluded.
Trump is now able to speak about protected witnesses and jurors.
Trump is still blocked from commenting about individual prosecutors, court staff and their family members. That portion of the gag order will remain in effect until Trump's sentencing on July 1.

Oh, so the Regime says he can comment on jurors and witnesses, but he still may not comment on Regime Operatives.

NOTES from FLA court hearing on Trump's motion to suppress evidence from MAL.

Judge Cannon was in a mood today lol. She pushed back hard at arguments by Emil Bove, Trump's lawyer, that the FBI affidavit seeking the warrant was misleading and the search warrant too broad.

She appeared to indicate at the end of the hearing that she would not grant the motion to suppress MAL evidence saying she believed the affidavit was "particular enough."

She did, however, confront David Harbach, Jack Smith's prosecutor, about FBI agents searching the bedrooms of Melania and Baron Trump.

She asked if there was probable cause to believe "documents were in the bedroom of a child?"

Harbach said DOJ had evidence boxes were moved.

"Any direct or indirect evidence the boxes were to a child's room?

Harbach: No

He went on to insist it would have been "irresponsible" for agents not to search Melania's and Baron's room. "There was nothing egregious about it."

Harbach again had a bit of a temper tantrum at the end of the hearing. He asked to give a brief rebuttal to Bove's closing comments--Cannon gave him "30 seconds."

One day after admitting the special counsel has a "permanent, indefinite" source of tax dollars to fund both prosecutions of Trump, Harbach complained the proceedings were "unfair."

He accused the defense of "hijacking" the hearing with "repeated attempts to import" false allegations into the case about the MAL raid.

Cannon cut him off, basically saying no one is hijacking the hearing because it is over.

My guess is there will be a delay of at least a few weeks until the next hearing. Holiday week next week then Trump is set to be sentenced on 7/11 on NY case and the GOP convention is the following week.

Cannon is very mindful of everyone's schedule and making sure defendants can fully participate in the proceedings.

Looks like she'll deny this motion but 2 biggies are on the horizon: A rescheduled hearing on the scope of the prosecution team (collusion btw NARA, DOJ, and the Biden White House) and motion to dismiss due to spoliation of evidence siezed at MAL.

My opinion for what's it worth is that she is slow walking this case in hopes of Trump winning in November. Remember that DOJ has hard and fast written rules that criminal stuff has to stop 90 days before an election or that counts as election interference. And I suspect that she is going to hold them to their written standard or she will dismiss the case.

In essence she is timing this case out.

Not only should the case be thrown out based on the things we have been discussing but the Judge should also throw it out for unequal prosecution of the law after the DOJ refusal to prosecute Joe Biden for actual mishandling of papers he should not even have in the first place .

90 My opinion for what's it worth is that she is slow walking this case in hopes of Trump winning in November. Remember that DOJ has hard and fast written rules that criminal stuff has to stop 90 days before an election or that counts as election interference. And I suspect that she is going to hold them to their written standard or she will dismiss the case.

Pretty sure they have a ton of CI's in Trump's campaign as well as multiple open fisa warrants to spy on him. Remember the IC has "deemed" Trump a Russian asset. And those guys and gals are reporting back to the doj on a daily basis. I mean they did that in 2015 and really never stopped after Trump won.

105 Of course Merchan is dropping parts of the gag order now. If the order is completely dropped, then any appeal to a higher court would be found to be moot. Merchant avoids appellate scrutiny, signs a lucrative book deal and is invited to all the good parties.
One can hope that the higher courts would not in fact declare a challenge to the order to be moot, but there is little chance of that. Does this then become a precedent? Who knows.
