The RIAA and major music labels have filed suit Suno and Udio - the company responsible for "BBL Drizzy" whatever the hell that is* - for copyright infringement because the AI systems learned from copyrighted works just like every musician for the last three hundred years. (The Verge)

The RIAA claims this case is "straightforward" and presented as evidence a song they produced which sounds suspiciously like Johnny B. Goode - allegedly, because I can't confirm it right now because it won't load.

But AI only produces what you tell it to, and very likely this is similar to the New York Times' suit against OpenAI where they claimed ChatGPT would reproduce NYT articles, which is true only if you essentially feed it the article as a prompt.

I've had enough of these rent-seeking assholes. A take off and nuke the entire site from orbit on all their houses.

* I found it. If you imagine a one-hit-wonder 70s funk band that released a second song that never charted, and that song had a B side, and that B side was chosen over the only other song they had which was recorded at 5AM after an all-night marijuana taste-testing session, BBL Drizzy sounds like that rejected song's cousin from the country that was kicked in the head by a chicken when it was young.

Only problem is they are doing this whether the photos were made with AI or not.

Maybe sic them on the RIAA and let them fight to the death.

By itself, having 30 engineers is not a problem. Having 30 engineers who know what they are doing, and zero engineers who don't, is an absolute blessing, so long as you don't overwork the team to the point that major mistakes start creeping out to the production environment.

Any sufficiently large team will have at least one member who is dangerously incompetent.

I still fail to see how he could get nabbed in another country, on behalf of the US. He's not a US citizen, he wasn't in a US State and didn't murder anyone. Doesn't this create a precedent for any US or UK politician getting nabbed in another country, on someone's behalf?

This predicate is particularly lame since Chuck Berry's riffs plus the public domain 12 bar blues form were the basis, pauses, does some math, smokes some weed, the majority of 50s and 60s Rock and Roll. Example: Brian Wilson became legend rewriting Chuck Berry songs with a surfer theme.

This whole cockup is something I have been thinking about for sometime. Can AI, assuming AI becomes profoundly good, ever generate wholly new styles of art or is it constrained to being imitative. Alternatively, what happens to the value of art in the age of ubiquitous (AI) masterpieces? For now, likely always, the human mind is innately gifted with making fresh creative leaps or inferring wholly original ideas from existing information while AI, it seems, is constrained by the unyielding past, its model. In the end, this music industry lawsuit is pointless since AI can never an artist, only a process. How does that infringe? What will be interesting is when artists start using AI creations in the manner the modern pop music samples for new works. Will the AI companies then sue the artist for infringement?

My only memorable dream-part from last night: I had stepped out of a kitchen into a back yard or wide alley after some Important Person, maybe a president (or even Trump?), had just passed me going in. A cook on my left suddenly reached under his white jacket and drew a pistol. It looked like the Beretta 9mm that Bruce Willis carried as John McClane. I grabbed his arm and wrestled him to the ground in that dreamy way dreams have, and he gave little resistance. When I stood up with the gun, a couple of cops came out, barely noticed the gun, and dragged the guy off, saying, "He's high on something." Which probably explained how I overpowered him. . . .

We head for home in about five hours after spending the weekend with our son and his fiancé'. And our Grand-dogger. Dodo head that he is.

record setting heat for a day or two, and their A/C had crapped out with a two week wait for the new unit it the apartment. Fortunately they were provided with several portable units to get by. But it sure felt good to have the system replaced and running.

Wacoms don't work, Dell stylus doesn't work, the spongy ones you can pick up for $2 aren't accurate enough. It's a pity because the Gole is so darn adorable.

76 Some YouTube guy did a comparison of the 15" M3 MacBook and the 15" Snapdragon Microsoft Laptop. They are remarkably similar once you get past the MacOS / Windows things; can't we all just get along? The best part is this guy did a battery test I can relate too: He unplugged his fully charged Microsoft Laptop at 7:30 am and used it for a busy day of remote work. At 5:30 pm the battery was at 30%. 10.5 hours with some left over. If I did my algebra correctly that is like 15 hours to 0%. Sounds good to me.

84 So if I'm not mistaken, over the past generation or so, student loans have gradually been almost completely folded into this arcane nationalized system where they're essentially all back-stopped by the US Gov't in some way or another.

So, in a way, they would have a tenuous right to cancel student loan debt unilaterally. But i would imagine that the issue we should worry about is not so much if they can or can't, it's that they shouldn't even be in that position in the first place.
