Rep. Anna Paulina Luna is introducing a resolution directing the Sergeant at Arms of the House to arrest and detain Merrick Garland until he turns over the Hur tapes.

Florida GOP Rep. Anna Paulina Luna on Monday informed lawmakers that she would bring a resolution to require the House sergeant at arms to detain Attorney General Merrick Garland and bring him before the lower chamber.

The House this month held Garland in contempt of Congress in a 216-207 vote over his refusal to turn over the audio tapes of special counsel Robert Hur's interview with President Joe Biden. The Department of Justice has indicated it will not prosecute Garland.

Luna's resolution would hold Garland in "inherent contempt" over the matter, according to The Hill. The House has not done so in just under 100 years.

"Under inherent contempt, the individual is brought before the bar of the House by the Sergeant at Arms, tried by the body, and can then be detained either in the Capitol or in D.C.," Luna wrote. "This process demonstrates the seriousness with which Congress views non-compliance and the potential consequences for those who refuse to cooperate."

I think the idea here is that Congress has this power and must have this power itself. If they just turn over their contempt charges to the Executive, the Executive can, as they're doing here, refuse to prosecute the party in contempt. Congress must have the power to compel evidence in their own body, or else they don't have this power at all.

As she notes, it has been done in the past -- but not in a long while.

I doubt our Brave Heroes in Congress are willing to take this step.

Trump is floating the idea of a drug test for both himself and Biden before the debate. Biden, for obvious reasons, will not agree to it.

Former President Donald Trump on Monday suggested that he and President Joe Biden should submit to a drug test prior to their participation in the first presidential debate on Thursday.

"DRUG TEST FOR CROOKED JOE BIDEN??? I WOULD, ALSO, IMMEDIATELY AGREE TO ONE!!!" he posted on Truth Social.

Biden has for years faced scrutiny over his age and fitness for office. Trump previously suggested that Biden would be "jacked up" on drugs during the debate and speculated that the president had been using cocaine during the State of the Union in order to deliver a solid performance.

Axios thinks you should feel bad for Biden:

Alex Thompson
@AlexThomp

It has affected the president: Aides know to tiptoe around him when there's bad family news, and he's often angry or distracted about the legal and political attacks on them, per 5 ppl familiar w/ the dynamic.

His family's struggles -- along w/ the still raw grief over his son Beau -- can manifest w/ tears and an "impenetrable sadness," 1 person close to him said.

It's all led Biden to rely more heavily on those he's known the longest -- creating a protective inner circle around him.

This was the state of the Biden family when he ran for president in 2020:
both of his adult children were struggling w/ addiction to drugs
Hallie Biden had only just gotten sober from crack cocaine
Her 2 school-age children went through a period when both of the adults in the home were addicts

Not only that, but cannibals ate his uncle!

How does this All-American Football star find the strength to soldier on?

@AlexThomp

Hunter's troubles have been well-aired, but Ashley Biden also has paid a heavy price under the glare of the presidential spotlight as she left behind her rehab diary which was later stolen and published on a right-wing site.

In a letter in April during the woman's criminal trial, Ashley wrote:
"I will forever have to deal with the fact that my personal journal can be viewed online...The despair I have often felt will never truly go away."
J
The diary includes convos w/ Joe Biden. After a relapse in July of 2019d
"My dad cried on the phone, saying he has the debate in a week + 'now has to worry about you.' And he cried. Maybe he knows what he is doing + it's worked but my feelings of guilt often are overwhelming."

Say, Alex, did she perchance happen to mention anything else interesting about Biden in her diary...?

Neither Ashley nor Hunter wanted to be the reason their father didn't run -- and they encouraged him to do so. So did Jill.

Val Biden had serious doubts, she later wrote.

"I didn't want the family to go through it. I was worried the family couldn't go through it."

Oh poor them.

I've heard that apples don't fall far from trees. Say, what about Trump's idea for a drug test?

Biden's debate prep includes... simply training himself to be able to stand for 90 minutes.

That's where we are.

Round Mound of Clown Jamaal Bowman is trailing his Democrat primary opponent by 17 points. So he held a rally over the weekend, which about 100 people attended, a large art of them reporters.

AOC played Bowman's hype-man and spazzed out trying to amp up the barely-existent "crowd," and photos showing just how small and sad this assemblage was.

In a foul-mouthed tirade, he named the real enemy: "AIPAC." And he promised to "show them who the f*** we are."

Sexton suggests that he knows he's going to lose, so he's setting himself up for his Second Act as a racist antisemitic ignorant firebrand conspiracy-theorist rabble-rouser, which is pretty much what he is now, except he'll be drawing a paycheck from MSNBC instead of the taxpayers.

Update to Kasie Hunt story: Clay Travis linked video of both Tapper and his fellow immoderate moderator Dana Bash repeatedly comparing Trump to Hitler.

You may wonder, "How could they claim to be objective?" It's simple: They claim, for each and every one of their leftwing opinions, that their opinions are objectively true. Donald Trump is objectively a Nazi. If you disagree, you're the one who's not objective. Their opinions are facts, your facts are hateful conspiracy theories.

Axios decides that proposing to post the ten commandments in schools means that "Christian nationalism" -- this year's psyop -- is "on the march."

A new Louisiana law requiring the Ten Commandments to be posted in classrooms is drawing new scrutiny to Christian nationalism, a once-fringe movement steadily gaining political power in the U.S.

Why it matters: Christian nationalism seeks to establish a country governed by a fundamentalist interpretation of the Bible. Adherents and allies of the movement have aligned themselves with Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

Zoom in: The "Appeal to Heaven" flag flown outside Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito's home last summer -- originally a Revolutionary War symbol -- is linked to Christian nationalism.

So, too, is the Alabama Supreme Court ruling in February that defined frozen embryos as children -- temporarily causing IVF clinics in the state to halt treatments.
Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Tom Parker cited the Bible in his legal opinion and declared on a Christian podcast that "God created government."

I added this late as an update to an earlier post. In case you missed it:

CNN objects to posting the Ten Commandments in school... because that might cause a child to ask what "adultery" is, which would expose children to adult sexual behaviors that are out-of-place in a school.

CNN meanwhile is all-in on Drag Queen Story Hour.

1) House sources are expecting Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) to force a vote to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in “inherent contempt” of Congress sometime in the middle of next week. Fox is told the vote likely comes Wednesday or Thursday.

What is “inherent contempt?”

It’s similar to “contempt” of Congress – in which the House voted to hold Garland earlier this month for failing to respond to a subpoena to provide audiotapes of the interview Special Counsel Robert Hur conducted with President Biden about the classified documents case.

But “inherent contempt” is a dramatic and historic escalation.

The House has not held anyone in inherent contempt since the 1930s. Prior to that, you must go back to the early 1800s and 1790s.

Yes. That’s correct.

With “inherent contempt,” the House approves the resolution – and doesn’t rely on the Justice Department to prosecute the contempt of Congress case. In this case, the House deploys its “inherent” powers and dispatches House Sergeant at Arms Bill McFarland and his team to “arrest” Garland. Ostensibly, Garland could be held BY CONGRESS (read that again) until he provides the audiotapes.

Such a scenario creates an extraordinary conflict between the legislative branch of government and the executive branch. Keep in mind that Garland is protected by armed FBI agents. Does this create some sort of a standoff?

Unclear. And no one seems to know on Capitol Hill.

They won't pass the resolution of inherent contempt because they don't want to.

In 6-3 decision issued today, the Supreme Court ruled that 1) a jury must be unanimous in its findings on criminal convictions, and 2) sentencing enhancements cannot be arbitrarily implemented by judicial fiat.

The ruling and the rhetoric in the opinion have obvious implications for both the illegal Bragg witch trial against Trump in New York City and the bogus J6 1512(c) charges and sentencing enhancements that corrupt federal judges have announced they will implement if the Supreme Court nukes 1512(c).

Is there a new leaker at the Supreme Court?

Just days ago, the Biden regime announced a radical new executive order to legalize the immigrant spouses of citizens, even if those immigrants were in the U.S. to commit crimes or were here legally. It was very strange timing for such an oddly specific EO.

Now we know why: the Supreme Court ruled today in a 6-3 decision that the U.S. is not required to admit immigrant spouses of American citizens in a case involving an MS-13 member whose spouse was a U.S. citizen and who demanded legalization.

“From this Nation’s beginnings, the admission of noncitizens into this country was characterized as ‘of favor [and] not right,” the Court ruled.

Somebody at the White House was clearly tipped off about the unannounced Supreme Court decision, which explains why the White House rushed out such a shoddily written and argued new executive order to open the border even more: the Biden regime knew how the Supreme Court was going to rule, and it sought to pre-empt the court with its absurd EO.

So the question now is: who, exactly, is leaking information on rulings to the Biden White House?

68 If my name was... oh... Joe Biden for instance... and I had a house in Wilmington with a $350,000 mortgage. And some entity were to pay $300,000 toward that mortgage, and I refinanced and took out $300,000 in cash, and did that about 20 times... would that be a problem?

A lot of bad people over the years made sure some of them went away. Or it could be viewed that way, maybe. It ain't the laws, it's the enforcement or lack thereof.

The House at one time, had ultimate authority is my understanding to seat members. That is, it wasn't enough to actually win the election. I'm not sure if they used this privilege, or even how it worked. I assume in practice they could have refused to seat someone viewed as corrupt, or other character defects.

A lot of interesting rules and things they "could" have done, to prevent or punish abuses we've seen become common.

147 Emmie, a lie can get halfway around the world before the truth can get its boots on. This is always the problem. Modern cell phone cameras and real time uploads are pretty new, and humans aren't used to this much information on a constant basis. We used to wait till 5 pm to be told what to think. Once a day, not 257 times a day. This type of 24/7 programming is especially bad for people who haven't really heard anything else except the 24/7 programming.

House is still ultimate judge of its elections but cannot refuse to seat a member due to Powell v McCormick. Refusal to seat came from congressional practice during and after civil war with the house believing the 14th amendment insurrection clause let them do it. However scotus held that in Powell's case, the house did not have the power to refuse Powell his seat for misconduct in office. Expulsion was the constitutional remedy but that requires 2/3 rd majority.

In each new poll, I'm most interested in seeing what's changed since that outfit's previous poll.

I don't think Biden wants to do public appearances in MN, because that would signal that his campaign thinks MN is in play. Which of course it IS. But Biden's campaign is publicly disdainful of the idea that MN & VA are in play: "If Trump wants to waste money there, we're very happy to see that."

Unlikely. But it seems a hell of a lot more likely than Biden up 2.

Virtually every serious poll and especially the ones that have been the most accurate over the last few years have Trump winning or tied in all of the swing states. Biden is losing pretty substantially on all of the issues voters claim are most important save for abortion.

The country is living through the worse inflation in the last 4 decades and the lawfare against Trump didn't just fail it's led to him having record levels of fundraising. He is beating Biden both on recent fundraising and cash on hand.

I don't doubt he's winning the race right now but double digits in the popular vote seems a stretch. Still, if he's up half that much in the popular vote we are looking at a landslide.

||Donald Trump Proposes Migrant Vs American Cage-Fighting Match
Donald Trump has proposed that migrants should take on Americans in a cage-fighting tournament.

The former president floated the idea in a speech to Christian conservatives and again at a rally in Philadelphia on Saturday night.

In remarks described as “unhinged” by Democrats, the 78-year-old Republican presidential nominee recalled a conversation he had with his friend Dana White, the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, while addressing the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road To Majority conference in Washington.||

Actually, the UK Telegraph report knows he was joking but the Dems are pretending it is real.
