Today Is the First Day of the Rest of Your Week Cafe

From Discover Civilizations

Lending a hand to a lamb. Was he stuck? Or was he just itching his back?

Meeting the new pupper.

When I first saw this I thought it was a giant spider. Now that I know it was just some chimps in some kind of polymorphously perverse sex-limbo, I wish I could go back to believing it was a giant spider.

Fluffy nap-time.

Rescued sea otter pup gets groomed, complains about it.

Give it to me straight, Doc--how bad is it? How long have I got?

Juggling as seen from above. It's weird.

Boobies.

Kitten has grown up with seven dogs and her meows are more like barks.

Arigato, human.

Copycat.

Not on my watch.

A cat's secret maneuver -- the under-pounce!

This dog has beef with the other one and is trying to pretend he's not there.

Seriously -- what are we going to do with all of these bears?

34 Heh. Anytime I see a pic of an Easter Island statue, I think back to the USMC days. One Gunny with a receding hairline (bald) went the cue ball route before it was a thing, shaved his head, and actually looked a lot younger. A few of his fellow SNCOs (drinking buddies) fell in line and did the same. Salty old CWO4 took a Polaroid of them, put it on the bulletin board with the caption Easter Island. Sometimes that hair, no matter how little you have, covers up a lot of stuff that needs covered up.

45 Insty posted something recently about how Easter Island no way had as many people pre-Western discovery as previously thought, and that means it no way had enough people to cause environmental catastrophe.

So the myth that they over-ravaged the land and committed enviro-suicide is BS.

They did this using AI (of course) to identify which part of rocky terrain had been rock gardens. Apparently they grew food among the rocks for some reason and previous studies assumed all rocky terrain had been gardens but only a tiny fraction was. So population was much smaller.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore

No refuge could save the hireling and slave,
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O’er the land of the free, and the home of the brave.

While not generally eaten by humans, they are hunted voraciously by young and old alike.

280 Perhaps already been told... but my wife related this story to me today;

A farmer had some horses in addition to his cows. He'd placed a donkey in with with them as donkey's are assholes and will beat the living shit out of anyone/anything that invades their territory.

One day the farmer noticed the donkey was gone. He spent some time looking for it, but to no avail.

Years went by. Then, a hunter who was elk hunting took a photo of a heard of elk with a donkey in the middle. It appeared the donkey was "leader" of this heard.

Some number of years went by and the photos made the usual social media rounds. The original farmer recognized his donkey. The animal was apparently very healthy, well fed, and among "its kind." It was... a leader amongst the elk.

Rather than bring it back to his pastures the farmer left the animal alone. He said it was obviously happy with the herd of elk.

While somewhat aggrandized, I think this is true.

352 "Wow, is that true? If it is true, how is not the biggest news in the world?"

Re: jab miscarriages. No - it's not true.

It's actually significantly worse. IIRC the original Pfizer numbers stopped tracking early, and actual follow up indicated a much, MUCH higher miscarriage rate than 10%. IIRC it was something like 80% or some stupidly high figure, although probably skewed a bit higher with small sample size. If there is any doubt about the overall effect compare nations for jab uptake and fertility rates, it's fucking plain as day.

It *is* the biggest story in the world for those who are aware of both the topic and where it can be discussed. The latter does not yet include any mainstream media or social platforms. I'm waiting for them to go loud with it and blame it on Trump at some point, though.

358 ||Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, agreed to plead guilty on Monday to a single felony count of illegally obtaining and disclosing national security material in exchange for his release from a British prison, ending his long and bitter standoff with the United States.

Mr. Assange, 52, was granted his request to appear before a federal judge at one of the more remote outposts of the federal judiciary, the courthouse in Saipan, the capital of the Northern Mariana Islands, according to a brief court filing made public late Monday.||
