The debate melt down could not have come at a worse time for the Democrats. It is a perfect storm.
The time that they could cleanly replace Biden just passed with the end of the primaries in June, and the closing of ballot access in critical states. But the convention is far enough away that people who don't understand the rules/laws can think they have time to replace him with someone who can win. Maximum chaos. Meanwhile, the Trump campaign continues registering voters, holding rallies, and raising money. I'd suspect a superbly executed political trick by the Trump campaign, if it wasn't clearly conducted by the media. Posted by: Dave in Fla at July 02, 2024 08:02 PM (5p7BC) 37

We took the kids on a 'nature tour' in Chaankanaab and they had a raised walkway out into the lagoon where they fed the saltwater crocs whole chickens. The walkway was about 6 feet above the water and there was a chest high fence on it with chain link. The guide would entice the crocs by tossing a few parts out to get them to come over to the walkway and then dangle the carcass over the edge. The crocs would literally come out of the water and take the carcass from his hand. I can't imagine what it must have been like for some little Mayan in pirogue to cross those waters back in the day. Must've been like top water jigs.

What if Trump is a literal avatar of God? God does not exclusively choose the righteous to become saints. Saint Paul was a hated tax collector before God appeared to him. Think about what has happened. He won in 2016 against all odds, he beat the lies of the state in the Russia hoax, exposing to all the evil and moral bankruptcy of our elected representatives. He has put the moral and intellectual rot of the left on display for everyone to see. In 2020, he was exiled, but in the process showed to everyone the blatant corruption of our election systems. He was persecuted upon his return, but those who bore false witness have all been shown to be corrupt, venal, and are suffering greater consequences than they tried to bring onto him. If he wins and becomes the 47th President, I think I need to go back to church. How can I deny that I have witnessed a miracle? The "Alligator Pear", as the avocado is sometimes called, takes its name from the Aztec word “ahuactl”, which means “testicle”. The testicle fruit's skin resembles that of the alligator's, hence the descriptive moniker. They are generally disfavoured by alligators, though sometimes used as bait to catch the unwary lemur or sea otter.

It's been going on since the last election. He spent the entire 2020 election hidden and kept away from the media. He's done the fewest pressers of any president in recent memory. He refuses to meet with anyone but friendly media for puff pieces. On those rare moments when he is out in public he almost without exception says or does something stupid. This is a guy who took a dump in his pants when meeting the Pope the first time, a couple weeks ago when he met the Pope he gave a head butt. He has some sort of dementia and anyone who has been around someone suffering from it knows this was inevitable. It's just fortunate for the world that it happened now instead of after the election. Trump was widely criticized for accepting this debate because it was CNN. That was a bad take. Trump wanted this debate and baited Biden into doing it. He knew. Not a surprise he's been uncharacteristically quiet since the debate. Posted by: JackStraw at July 02, 2024 08:23 PM (LkLld) 74

- This. We discussed it here recently, but "communities" as we knew them growing up no longer really exist. They moved online. Church is maybe the one place where you can be part of a community and build relationships with real-life people who can and will help if help is needed. Even setting aside the eternal soul burning in Hell part, it might not be a bad thing to have membership in a loving community in place over the next few years. Church is maybe the one place where you can be part of a community and build relationships with real-life people who can and will help if help is needed. Even setting aside the eternal soul burning in Hell part, it might not be a bad thing to have membership in a loving community in place over the next few years.

Man, we're up to our hip pockets in alligators here in Brunswick County, NC. The cops had to remove a big one the other day that was sprawled across a road, snapping at passing motorists. Another one was hanging out in the parking lot of a Mexican restaurant (Muy buenos dias, viejo!) with his head sticking out from under a car, and yet a third was taking a stroll around the Walmart parking lot.

My parents had a condo in a place outside of West Palm on course. Right behind their place was water hazard. I visited them one time and took the dogs out back for a walk. The Jack Russel was barking like a demon at the water's edge and I went down to look. Two eyes about 10 feet out at the top of the water looked back. I was tempted to see if the Jack could take him. Posted by: Dave in Fla at July 02, 2024 08:13 PM (5p7BC) OK, a story from Live Not By Lies, by Rod Dreher (paraphrased for Pixy): Alexander Ogorodnikov, a Christian dissident in the Soviet Union was sent to prison. He announced "Peace be with you" to his fellow prisoners in the cell, and they mocked him for being a Christian. One asked him to prove he was a Christian, and another said, "If your God will give us cigarettes, we'll all believe in him." (These prisoners were so low they didn't have any cigarettes at all.) He mentioned that they shouldn't smoke, but that he would pray with them for cigarettes. They all laughed but stood respectfully as he prayed for 15 minutes. As soon as the prayer was over and they sat down, the guards opened the door and threw in a bunch of packs of cigarettes. Yes, the prisoners believed. Ogorodnikov believed even more firmly.
