I kinda don't think this matters, because whatever Biden says, he's lying. His first act after the election will be to pardon Hunter, himself, his corrupt brother James, all the Biden children who received payments from overseas "business partners," and all of his aides who have likewise profited from the graft.
Now that they're being asked about commuting Hunter's (theoretical) sentence, they'll just lie about that. But this does indicate an intent to deceive. Last week, Biden said he would not pardon his son and would accept the trial's outcome. Jean-Pierre repeatedly referenced his comments ruling out a pardon while not discussing his position on a commutation, which would allow the president to wipe out a possible prison sentence for his son.

The plea deal fell apart in July 2023 when Judge Maryellen Noreika raised questions about the "atypical" agreement, which included a hidden provision that appeared to grant Hunter Biden blanket immunity from future prosecution over tax crimes. The collapse of the plea deal also came after whistleblowers in the IRS claimed the Justice Department was pulling punches in its investigation of Hunter Biden. DOJ prosecutor David Weiss planned to close the probe without filing charges, the New York Times reported, but changed course after the whistleblowers divulged details of the investigation, including records indicating Hunter Biden evaded millions of dollars in taxes on foreign income.

IANAL. I believe he is wrong. Congress may instruct the inferior courts as to issues they can hear but I don't believe that they could do so with SCOTUS. If that were possible, Congress could instruct SCOTUS that it cannot rule the on constitutionality of anything, thereby making SCOTUS even more pointless than it is.

actually the constitution gives the power to congress to take away matters from the federal courts. a repub member of the house of reps back in the jimmy carter days tried to get a bill through congress to take away courts ability to order school bussing but it never got anywhere

But, you question is flawed on the basis that the current administration very purposefully dismantled what Trump put in place. You'll recall the gas prices when he was in office. You'll recall no new wars occurred since he used economics as the foreign policy basis. He stopped payments to Hamas. All of these were undone purposefully by Biden. I think it obvious that the Trump way of governance worked, which is why they can't allow him to have a second run without re-election concerns.

They want "background checks", but they don't necessarily want to restrict access to guns based on background checks, or necessarily like the restrictions the government has made, or really, care whether or not you lie on those based on the restrictions that were specified.
They want The Blue to spread. That is, they want their mental paralysis to flavor and become collective process.
But at base, they are for their tribe.
Even the DU quotes demonstrate that they can't navigate all the things they want. We should be happy Hunter broke the law about background check documents, because we don't even believe there should be such a document.

They want "background checks", but they don't necessarily want to restrict access to guns based on background checks, or necessarily like the restrictions the government has made, or really, care whether or not you lie on those based on the restrictions that were specified.

This is why we need to have a truth commission next year. Perhaps, a joint committee of the US House and US Senate should listen as Biden officials and Hunter testify in front of a Trump appointed US Attorney/Special Prosecutor (perhaps Matthew Whitaker) at a hearing in Madison County, Alabama.

Why would anyone place their faith in this system in general? Would you be comfortable letting a jury decide any dispute of significance in your own life?
