Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | When A "Civilian" Participates In Terrorism: He Is A Terrorist![]() Now, you'd think the press would be very interested to know why hostages were being held in "civilian" homes in the middle of a "refugee camp." That would seem the most prudent question when discussing casualties as a result of the rescue operation. Instead, they simply went to bat for Hamas. Free countries have been conducting wars for a very long time, and they have killed lots and lots of civilians. It is the reality of war. And the lines are blurred, even absent the enthusiastic support that Gazans give to Hamas and their genocidal (yes...the correct use of the term) efforts against Jews and Israel. Is it appropriate to bomb armaments factories, knowing that workers will be killed? Of course. Is it appropriate to rescue POWs (let alone hostages), knowing that there will be unintended casualties? Of course. Well...except for Israel. The lone Jewish state in the world is held to an impossibly high standard. Warn the "civilians" or it will be vilified. Do not prosecute a war against a savage and brutal terrorist organization, lest "civilians" be killed. In fact, no matter what Israel does, it will be vilified. What is the answer? In the absence of any rational response on the part of world leaders, it is entirely appropriate for Israel to relax the rules of engagement, and prosecute the war against Hamas (and the coming war against Hezbollah) with maximum speed and ferocity. It is blindingly obvious that the vicious criticism of Israel's actions, no matter how humane, is based not on some heightened moral code, but on the centuries-old hatred of Jews, Judaism, and the modern state of Israel. A ruthless and rapid operation against the remaining Hamas forces and its infrastructure could be completed in a matter of a few weeks, and could stay ahead of the expected vitriol and condemnation from the world. Then Israel could shift to mopping up the remnants, and announce to the world that major military operations are at an end. ![]() Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

I just learned something very interesting. Abdullah al-Jamal, the "journalist" holding the hostages recovered in this Gaza raid appears to be one of "ours." The media are all playing him up as an al-Jazeera journalist - but he was only freelancing for them in Gaza. He was on staff with a US outfit called the Palestine Chronicle, and at a shady 501(c)3 called "People Media Project." Both of PMP's websites appear offline at this time (though Palestine Chronicle's is still up). Meanwhile, Times of Israel is reporting that the CIA provided unspecified "intelligence" on the hostages' location prior to the raid. I suspect the CIA was able to do this because they found out the kidnapper was of *their assets,* and decided it was better to make this situation go away. It has been amazing - and darkly humorous - to watch (first) Hamas instantly pivot to shrieking that They were the Real Victims Here!!!! and (second) how may True Followers that Hamas has in the west who instantly picked up their claims and ran with them. Piers Morgan being one obvious early example.

I find the call for a "two state solution" to be interesting. There has been a de facto "three state solution" for a while now. Israel, the Palestinian Authority - Fatah, and of course, Hamas in Gaza.
Each of these is an operating state entity, Israel, a de jure state, the others not. But the PA and Hamas conduct governmental activities and dealings with the world as states do. So, the "two state solution" is a red herring. A stick to beat Israel with as the world complains about unfairness and the poor Pali's. The real story is that the Pali's could have their state, if they didn't want to use it to murder their neighbor. They never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. (Some wise person said.) On top of that, no one wants them in their land. They tried to overthrow the Kingdom of Jordan. They have destabilized Lebanon. Who would take them in? I suspect that the neighbors in the region hope quietly that Israel cleans house, so the area can have some peace. Posted by: Bones at June 09, 2024 12:12 PM (DGlaL) 13

This has never been morally complicated. In our good war WW 2 (the war pretty much everyone understands and agrees we were the good guys) we killed who knows how many civilians…. Knowingly and intentionally targeted Hiroshima and Nagasaki in addition to fire bombing of population centers like Dresden and Tokyo…. If there were any truly innocents killed, the moral culpability is ENTIRELY on the military leadership of Imperial Japan and the leaders of Nazi Germany.
If there are any innocents in Gaza they are 2 year old kids too young to understand anything. If they die, that is on Hamas 100%. Posted by: LinusVanPelt at June 09, 2024 12:18 PM (JNT5L) 23
When 75% of Gazans support Hamas and their tactics AFTER 10/7, it is obvious that there is no substantive difference between a terrorist carrying a rifle and an RPG, and a family in an apartment building giving aid and comfort to that terrorist.
While I suspect the majority of Gazans do support Hamas, I don't trust any polling of any kind about any issue anymore. None of them are reliable. So I wonder how many Gazans actually do support Hamas and how many are just saying that they do out of fear. Similar to people in the USA not honestly answering polls about their support of non-approved opinions (i.e. President Trump support, being anti-abortion, being anti-LGBT, being anti-"trans", etc). Inside Israel, this rescue is a huge political boost for Netanyahu; the most credible criticism against his government's conduct of the war was that they had been unsuccessful at finding and freeing the hostages. This undoes that line of attack; it also discredits those who say endless negotiations and/or surrender is the only solution. It also discredits the Biden admin's insistence on negotiations and settlement. Plus, a huge morale boost at a critical time.

No voting, no public office, no government jobs. No going into Israel proper for jobs. If some entrepreneur wants to start some sort of "maquiladora" in Gaza to use Gazan labor to make shirts or widgets, fine, but the Gazans stay in Gaza. The 10/7 attack would not have been nearly as successful had the so-called Gazan civilians not acted many weeks or even months in advance as intelligence assets gathering intel on safe rooms, checkpoints, police stations etc. Also, many of the Israelis who were kidnapped were nabbed by civilians and handed over to the Hamas operatives in the initial assault. No decent person wants to be seen as a hypocrite.
Individuals on the left have no decency. Flaunting their hypocrisy, moral perversions, and lies in our faces is a power move that they score as "winning." We cannot move in the right direction so long as we are entangled in this asymmetrical snare. Hypocrisy is a club laid at the target's feet. There is no damage until the target picks up that club and beats himself with it. Leftist ideology is an abandonment of reason. Understand that leftists become lower-order animals when they choose leftism. Whatever these cattle "think" of anything is meaningless. Posted by: biteme at June 09, 2024 12:30 PM (xWS9V) 39

There is a great quote of Walter Cronkrite's in the book Masters of the Air. He is discussing how coverage of the bombing campaign in '42-43 was really the only American fighting out of England at the time. Losses were bad and they were always looking for a good story. He said, "Back then, we were all on the same team." Pretty much sums it up. They haven't been on America's team in decades. Posted by: Diogenes at June 09, 2024 12:54 PM (W/lyH) 66

Ipso facto, they do not want to end it. If Netanyahu wants to give them one more opportunity to release hostages for a peace process - fine. But at this point I'd be looking to Israel to incorporate Gaza within its borders. I remember discovering MEMRI (Middle East Media Research Institute) for the first time about 15 years ago and seeing the videos of children's shows in the Islamic world. Where it was basically Sesame Street only with the characters teaching the kids that Jews were (numerous derogatory things) and teaching them to say these things and sing about killing them. I think Joe Mazzulla, the Boston Celtics head coach, might be doing it for us. Media brought up how historic, first since 1975, it is that two black coaches are in the final, wanting his opinion. Saw Franklin Graham interviewed in Israel within a week of the attack. He was there providing aid with his organization, Samaritan's Purse. He said something I have not seen reported anywhere else, but FWIW:
There wasn't a single attack on 10/7, there were three. The initial attack by Hamas was the bloodiest, where they did the stuff we heard about (maybe not all the details, but you know what I mean). The second wave attack was a few hours later, and included civilians. They tortured any survivors, looted, and destroyed (set fires, damaged farm equipment, etc.. And then hours after that there was a third wave (maybe 12 hrs after the first attack?). Again, it was civilians, including women and children, attacking any survivors who had come outside thinking the coast was clear, more looting and destruction. Now, if you rely on Graham's report (or that his sources were legit), then this notion of 'innocent civilians' has become storm grey. Another thing I've only seen reported in the WSJ: as part of the 10/7 planning, they relied on Palestinians employed on the kibbutzs for intel: how many people, where the guns were, and so on. Again, innocent civilians? Storm grey area. Posted by: Lizzy at June 09, 2024 01:21 PM (cCVOS) 112

-------- The schools. The media people came out of the schools. I'm old enough to remember when Civics was taught. That morphed into 'Sociology'. FWIW I offer Wiki-Diff's distinction: As nouns the difference between sociology and civics is that sociology is the study of society, human social interaction and the rules and processes that bind and separate people not only as individuals, but as members of associations, groups and institutions while civics is the study of good citizenship and proper membership in a community. CNN-
"Deadly Israeli rescue operation now At least 210 people killed and hundreds injured in Israeli raid to rescue four hostages in central Gaza, the enclave's government media office said." Someone needs to ask CNN what an acceptable Hamas to hostage death ratio would be. Clearly, they think only zero Hamas casualties are acceptable, but I doubt they'd be bold enough to say so, since that would mean the only option the Israelis have is to die. The ‘many worlds’ of Huma Abedin Abedin joins JI's 'Limited Liability Podcast' Growing up in Saudi Arabia was “one of the greatest gifts” given to Huma Abedin by her parents, she said in the newest episode of Jewish Insider’s “Limited Liability Podcast.” The longtime aide to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recalled her early upbringing in the Gulf nation in conversation with co-hosts Richard Goldberg and Jarrod Bernstein. Abedin, who was born in Michigan, moved to Saudi Arabia as a toddler in 1977 on her parents’ one-year sabbatical (they were both academics), which they kept extending — her mother still lives in the Gulf nation. “I loved growing up there.” she said. https://archive.is/Jk3FM Posted by: Braenyard at June 09, 2024 01:57 PM (gMabG) 161

Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 at June 09, 2024 01:48 PM (8sMut) Actually, that's precisely what I was pointing out. CBD contends that since 75% of Palis support Hamas, they are Hamas, and may be dealt with as such. But when 75% of Jewish voters support Biden, well, you are an anti-Semite if you apply the same logic. But you have to be logically consistent if you want to justify things. If the paradigm you want to employ is people groups are homogenous and may be treated accordingly, then that applies to all people groups. Or , if treating people groups as homogenous is wrong and race-driven, then you are really only justifying treating non-combatant Palis as terrorists because you are Islamophobic. It’s one thing for there to be a terrorist force acting on their own. It’s quite another for civilians to be helping the cause. Not to mention that Hamas was elected to run Gaza, of the free will of the people who live there. I don't see him as a troll. It's a reasonable point. I think the problem arises when one tries to treat every problem with a uniform answer.
There is a different level of justifiable violence when one is dealing with an ultraviolent aggressor, vs. when one is dealing with a political disagreement, even if the consequences of that disagreement are potentially very large. Thus, we can bomb civilians in Germany and Japan, because the behavior of their countrymen was so extreme that killing large numbers of civilians was both proportional and necessary to avoid even greater loss of life. This is the nuclear bombing argument in a nutshell. The same would not have been justified by Hitler reoccupying the Rhineland. In the case of Hamas, the invasion, rape, torture, and murder, of 1200 civilians, after many other such incidents, makes Israeli counterviolence, inevitably involving civilians, a tragic, but necessary expedient. “Islamophobic”
I generally try to disregard arguments whenever the word “phobia” is attached. It refers to a category of mental illness, an irrational fear of harmless objects. Nobody thinks Moslems are harmless. Even a brief cursory overview should lead anyone to conclude it is completely and utterly incompatible with open and secular societies. There is no way around this. I suppose some would conclude that is a type of bigotry. Posted by: Common Tater at June 09, 2024 02:38 PM (jTQ4/) 176
Blowing up the clerk of a convenience store that Hamas agents use to buy Cokes in is not the same thing as shooting Hamas agents.
If the Hamas agents are the target and the targets and the clerk coincide, this is lawful. But this is not what you are saying. Just because the clerk goes 'yay Hamas' and sells them Cokes on a hot day does not make him a legit target. In fact, attacking him IS terrorism. If he is in the convenience store by himself, he is not a legit target. He is a Civilian. Your attempt to obliterate the distinction of Civilian is a door to mass killing, war crimes, and genocide. But then a lot of people around here cheer for the murder of half a million German refugees at Dresden. I do not follow this situation closely. My stand remains the same as I want nothing to do with it. Nor do I want Hamas refugees in my country which was a really selfish suggestion by some people. However, you arguing that we ought to target Civilians is a weight in the scales in the favor of Hamas's arguements. Being the cold blooded so and so I can be, I'm not sure I disagree with Israel's right to do so. However, don't then turn about to me and pretend you're sweet. Funny how you contradict yourself here. You say you don’t follow the situation closely. You say you want nothing to do with it (fine, I prefer Israel beat the crap out of Hamas anyway while we sit back and watch). Then you opine on things you admit you don’t follow closely and want nothing to do with. Funny that. (And about Hamas purposely attacking Israeli civilians of course you are mute.) Maybe your best course of action is not to talk about this subject at all. Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 at June 09, 2024 03:17 PM (8sMut) 178
I agree with your friend. Let the Saudis administer to Gaza for a limited time. I say limited, because the Saudis are Muslim, after all, therefore not amenable to western values, but they would surely be hell on wheels when it comes to Hamas and those Gazans who support Hamas, out of their own self-interest. And the rest of the Arab world would cheer them.

In fact, no matter what Israel does, it will be vilified.
What is the answer? There isn't anything to answer. If Israel is to be vilified no matter what, then vilification doesn't mean anything. It's useless, and it's pointless to pretend it has any import. Israel needs to ensure its supply logistics from sources who share their goals against Hamas / Hezbollah / Iran. That would be most of the rest of the Middle East for starters. Why would anyone here think that the Saudis, or anyone else in the ME, might agree to put their people on the ground in Gaza?
Hamas would kill them, if these peacekeepers get in Hamas' way. We saw this movie already in Lebanon, where the UN peacekeepers proved to be literally worse than nothing-- Hezbollah used the UN forces as human shields! One can't bring in ANY new "day after" govt in Gaza so long as Hamas has a military presence there, however reduced. No-one wants any part of that hornet's nest.
