Or maybe that could be Round 2 to up the pressure.

Back in the day, I could cook dinner while talking on the phone, checking math homework, and keeping an eye on the littlest with He-Man or Josey and the Pussycats on in the background.

Now, we have a rule that you do not talk to the cook, if you want to eat a not-burned meal.

There was a school of economic thought that attempted to assign actual value metrics of satisfaction to the theory of marginal utility, it was an attempt to merge econometrics with Austrian economic school theories.
They suggested the "util" as the unit of measurement to show achievement of satisfaction.

My excellent high school economics teacher (that also taught AP U.S. History) frequently used "utils" to quantify marginal utility.

It was always hypothetical, such as if they designed a new sports car that gave buyers more utils, what would the graph show for their equilibrium new sales if the demand line shifted upwards?

It helps if you can have someone call your shots while you are working up to the main shot. A good spotter will get you on target, a really good one will read the wind for you, too.

He is shooting some sort of Creedmore, probably in 45-70 or a sharps 45-110, and they lob their shots in in a high parabolic. You can reach out and touch someone, but the depth of the area you have to hit to get on target is very tight because it is a bit like underhanding bowling balls into a wastebasket.

A well-known gunwriter invited the expert to White Sands Missile Range, where he set up his blackpowder rifle in a jig set at 45 degrees, fired a shot, and then they watched the range radar track the slug for, IIRC, 4500 yards.

the problem there is the same as the physics classic, "imagine a cow as a sphere" to draw out some ideal description of a physics principle, and this is the same problem as the "perfect market" or "perfect competition". The risk is that there is a confusion between the model and the reality, and though the model is good for demonstrating the theory, there are better elements to use and (in my opinion of course) the model isn't particularly good at prediction.

Tonight's movie was 'Goodnight Mommy'...Amazon studios version not the 2014 one I wanted to watch for free somewhere. A note in the credits mentioned the Diversity and Inclusion tney were committed to, which explains the fat, female black cop and why the movie kind of sucked.

I'm giving these things a chance and am moving closer and closer to Gorefests.

266 Oh, and I finished taking care of my friends cats today.

4 adult cats, and 2 had kittens aroumd the same time. So many kittens. They are so tiny, see me, climb my leg and it's like moving through a minefield because I don't want to hurt them.

It was actually pretty stressful. But the adult cats, and especially the mothers, come running out to me when they hear me call. They look up and meow until I pet them. We're good friends.

Some of the kittens are the size of your hand, incredibly furry, and just starting to move around. The older kittens will be a wild adventure in a month or so. Minefield. Moving active minefield.

Oh, and still, my most said words in there with all the kittens and their razor like claws climbing all over my kneeled down body is still 'Watch the ballsack!'

That one's a puzzler - most likely not from any of the lynx species, and the weight and size rule out some other possibilities. There's the Miner's Cat, but that's actually a relative of the racoon family and has a fox-like head. Big ringed tail, but they average about two pounds in weight. Escaped hybrid or exotic species, maybe?

317 Jim's likely right here. A Savannah would fit the description. Long-haired Bengal could also work - they tend to have ringed tails. The long-haired variety arise from recessive genes, and in the past those cats were spayed or neutered by Bengal breeders. Now, though, they're becoming trendy. If a daylight glimpse reveals a solid black bar at the end of the tail, it's a Savannah.

325 I think I have found a flaw in the Narrative Verbiage!

Over at a site called DesertUSA there is a story with the headline “Park Rangers, Law Enforcement Rescue Woman from steep ridge”.Basically, TLDR a touron bus from Vegas visiting the Mojave, one of the visitors didn’t return from a hike, search initiated, a suicidal person extracted via helicopter.

But the headline caught my eye for some reason. Why did they specify “woman”; it looks slightly … out of place in the modern, vague anodyne style guide fluffery headlines. “Park Visitor” or “Hiker” that kind of thing. They will usually specify what they are doing - backpacker, skier, climber etc. Not who they are per se.

Not this article. Read it and count the number of times they use “”Woman” and “Her” and “She” over and over.

Woke Deductive Theory is they are unintentionally telling everyone the person “experiencing a mental crisis” is a tranny. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

I walked into the store and an employee saw me and said "You must need something awfully bad". Woke Deductive Theory is they are unintentionally telling everyone the person “experiencing a mental crisis” is a tranny. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Is this happening more frequently?

Posted by: Miklos is IN (or would be) at June 08, 2024 02:12 AM (wWqRd)

331 Yeah, the reportage would look less … supportive.. “ Wacked Out Crossdressing Drama Queen Ruins Guided Tour Bus Trip For Everybody” whilst perhaps accurate, isn’t sensitive enough for 2024.

Ten bucks says that’s what happened. Nb I don’t really take suicide lightly btw - a family member did that years ago, and it is a selfish act and reprehensible. However comma if you get a hankerin’ to just walk off into the desert and die, well then do it and leave everybody else out of it.

Bailing on a tour bus trip, maybe they didn’t have cell phone service out there, so the bus had to return from the trip. “The Woman” (whether an authentic Person of Vagina or not) just laid all of the drama on dozens of other people, rescue agencies, spooling up helicopters ….

If my theory is correct, maybe there is some Enemy Law involved here too. The slightest Misidentification of Her or She or The Woman here could invite lawsuits. Possibly a little CYA going on here.

Regardless I feel sorry for this person, don’t misunderstand. I hope they get the help that they need, (which necessarily precludes catering to any delusions)

332 It wasn't spotted yet was seen on camera .... it must be a quantized cat. Could it be Schrodinger's Cat?

Let's ask Pauli.
Posted by: Campion - Fri Update #22

That wacky Schrödinger - he was no fun at the Water Park. His wave function kept collapsing every time you looked.

And don't get me started on Heisenberg - had to keep fishing him out from the water slide because he wasn't sure how fast he was going or where he was headed.

333 Oh, and Pauli - arrogant little Austrian excluded everyone and everything.

Plus, he faked having a cold and set up Don Vito for a hit by Sollozzo's button men. Which eventually gave rise to Clemenza's Corollary to Pauli's Exclusion Principle, expressed as "Leave the gun, take the Canolli."

339 There was a forensics lab guy in San Antonio who fabricated evidence on hundreds of cases. awhile back.

Wife and I were speculating on what the mindset of such people is.

Religious belief in the purity of whatever their particullar methodolloogy is, so that they have to falsify reesults to get a conviction?
Posted by: Muldoon says anatomy is not gross. at June 08, 2024 12:54 AM (991eG)

Simpler, everyone expects the CSI or Bones type of 'solve the crime in an hour' crap they learned from TV shows.

Actual science does not work that way... so in order to keep people 'happy'... they shortcut the work, and fake results.

340 Pigs are VERY intelligent !
Posted by: JT

Reminds me of the yearly debate between Ed and Johnny on The Tonight Show where they argued the question of which was more intelligent, the pig or the horse. And there was always the Christmas argument about how one pronounced Poinsettia. The things one gets nostalgic about when you're 29.

346 Lemmiwinks, while you're in München, be sure to try the Weisswurst with sweet mustard and pretzels. If you like beer, check out the Helles Weissbier and the Dunkel. There are six breweries there, and recently a number of micro-breweries have sprung up. The Stadt provides a lot of the beer for Oktoberfest, and the quality is pretty elevated.
