Rubber Wombat Buggy Bumpers Cafe

kuhaimountain.jpg
Kauai, Hawaii
by @ryanresatka

Sun buddies.

Cat is not a fan of owner's new tattoo.

Little dog says Get out of here, Moose Punk! I'll nibble your hooves off!

Just one of those days.

Little octopus is out for a quick jog.

"Baby" wombat.

Elephants napping.

Racing through a narrow trail.

Peak peek-a-boo match going on here.

Cute pupper wants to play peek-a-boo too.

Some very violent self-defense clips from Steve Inman. I usually don't link deaths but these clips have people getting gunned down.

Community policing.

Lunatic threatening woman with a pair of scissors gets a Mostly Peaceful shovel to the dome.

Very violent community policing in Brazil.

Also violent: Thug from NYC gets warm, red welcome from local muscle.

Compilation of street justice clips.

A couple of cute ones:

Dog with a wiffle-ball bat shows why they call dogs with wiffle-ball bats apex predators.

Spy vs. Spy.

Let me be the first to wish you all "Happy Pride!"

settingmyvpn.jpg

Did you get all of your Pride Month shopping done, so you can avoid all corporate-owned stores for the next thirty days?

9 Greetings! My mood is improving. I learned a new legal phrase: Intentional malfeasance.

Kauai is an amazing place. Years ago the wife and I hiked the place they call The Grand Canyon of the Pacific. We got so damn lost. No cell signal. Meant to be home by cocktail hour.
Finally staggered out of there about midnight.

Most of the modern left does not believe in Objective morality. It is all Subjective to them.

So, t them, there is no morality in Star Wars, because there is nothing that relates to them (they think.)

Huh. I wonder if you could make an argument that today's 'everything is political' is just them trying to relate to everything with fierce moral urgency?

Jedi is the half. The Luke-Vader side is pretty damn good. Some of the best star wars has ever done as far as tension, plotline, music and resolution.

It is just so jarring when you think about how you go from one side where you actually have high drama going on and then swap to the other side and it is goofy ewoks.

Then you had Phantom Menace which was almost entirely goof.

I'm pretty much convinced if it were not for John Williams and Ray Park, episodes 2 and 3 would never have even gotten made. TPM was boring, convoluted, and rediculous... until the Duel of the Fates starts playing and Maul activates the double bladed lightsaber. Those last 10 or whatever minutes are almost enough to make you completely forget how terrible the rest of the movie is.

I try to think of it in context. I remember when the promotional material came out (with the child anakin casting the shadow of vader and the snipets of Duel of the Fates in the trailer) and how stoked we were. They were doing it right. My buddy and I discussed endlessly how they seemed to be going for the troubled, haunted thing for Anakin and how that could mitigate the whole child actor thing if they did it like Sixth Sense (Haley Joel Osmont(sp?)

Then, the first initial action sequence was just boring and lifeless. There was no verve to the movie. Then the Gungans showed up.

Check your credit card and your current policy to see what they cover before you purchase add ons. When J rents cars for me, he always uses his Amex because it has coverage to the extent we don’t need to add anything additional. It’s covered between the card and our car insurance. I don’t know if it matters what type of Amex, or what covers what part between car insurance and the credit card. Sorry I am not more help.

200 137 141 Thank you. I'll call the two CCs I can use, find out which covers the most, and just add on at the rental agency. What's a few bucks when you are paying through every orifice to rent a car. Hoo boy, they are out of sight on prices nowadays. Had a friend some years back. His wife died and he gave the house and car to his kid and DiL. Moved into a nice retirement tower. Every other weekend he would rent a car just to get out and about. Dirt cheap, like $29.95. Those days, even allowing for inflation, are long gone.

All dance classes will use the Baby Shark song?
Posted by: mikeski at May

That would be awful! But no. During class, we do hands on corrections to make sure people are in the right form or to challenge them a little more. Because it’s one of us and 20 of them, we can usually manage getting to each person once (unless they are doing something that could cause an injury, of course). For shark week, as many instructors who can make it show up for all the classes the entire week. While the primary instructor teaches, we go around the room and do the hands on corrections. We are the sharks and our clients get a lot of support and / or challenges making the workout harder. We have a big inflatable shark who lives in the boutique. He isn’t nearly as loved as our Skeleton (Skelly) who has her own instagram. We have to make him more fun somehow.

Aren’t you glad you asked?

We were bitterly disappointed. I think it's hard to capture that kind of magic twice and it seems that Lucas didn't even try.

289 I retired at 60 and haven't regretted it one bit. I've got plenty to do and the energy to do it at this point. One of the main reasons I did early retirement.

Like I said ... not pissing on ANYONE that can do it, and enjoy it. Generally interested in those that can. Why I ask questions. They are not leading.

And I also get, some people just don't need to "fill the time". Some enjoy being home with the wife. I, although hating my job my entire life, learned that I really do need the job - in some form or fashion - because I just have to leave the house.

So - again, and for all early retirees - how do you fill the time ? Genuinely curious.

I think, if I ever slow down for real, I'll be a hiker. Because the shit I'm good at doesn't seem like retirement material. Cards of all sort, for money. Billiards, at least I don't lose money.

A very small social circle. Can't freehand anything - so painting is right out. I'm a good draftsman though, and good framer and such as long as I ... again ... don't have to freehand anything.

And I can shoot. Bow and gun. But I can't set there and pull a bow more than an hour before I get bored ... and 30 minutes for a gun.

To be honest, filling the time is, at least in part, a function of how much money you’ve been able to save for retirement. If you don’t feel it’s enough, there are lots of part-time jobs that can be interesting. I have several retired friends who have jobs you wouldn’t even think were available. You can travel, even if it’s just day trips. We have a fantastic state magazine here and I always get interesting ideas from it. I also felt that I had to have a job but, after several months, I started ignoring those Indeed postings.

Most towns have hiking clubs so that could help expand your social circle. But if you’re like me and prefer the solitude of hiring, you can probably find some guides to nearby trails. Before I got laid off in Minneapolis, I was working on a hiking project based on a guide called “60 Hikes Within 60 Miles”. It took me about 3 years due to the short Spring-Fall season but I did about 54 of them before I moved away. It was awesome. I know there are similar guides for other major metro areas.

Sucking up a bunch of my time right now is a project to set up a kid/senior day care facility. We have more older folks than you can shake a cane at and some of the locals can't afford normal day care when they work. The state is very interested so we're getting a ton of support from them.

Grandmas and Grandpas are all over the place and just love to take care of the kidlings. Free daycare for the little ones, companionship and a sense of well-being (and hugs!) for the elders.

Good for everyone.

Now I really don't like ya'.

I can build and skin you a deck, with Trex or whatever rail you want, as nice as you'd like it. Frame and pour you concrete pretty as you please, with edging and whatever finish you think you'd like to see.

But I can't draw flies, and never will. That's pretty cool. How long did it take you to get that good ?

376 sock_rat_eez - I'm trying my first SOTA activation tomorrow. It's the first time using this antenna, tuner, and radio as well, so it could easily be a disaster. I'll probably be on 20m or 30m, on CW (QRP). At least the hike to the top will be easy, assuming I don't have to contend with rattlesnakes trying to get early morning sun on the path up.

411 I am not above a little gloating. I have a polynikes Original and it is glorious.

A car dealership in Louisville still has some of my first remodeling work ... as a not yet 18 year old in high school. And also a furniture store in a ritzier part of town. I wonder if they know they have the original, more raw, not yet refined early expressions of the artist that I would become in the sphere of interior taking shit down to build shit back up medium that was my expression in that era.

I consider it my "have to fucking work to get cash to put gas in the tank and beer in the cooler to pick up girls on dates" phase. It was also my "Dad finally thinks I'm not useless and is slightly off my ass" era. The two phases intertwined.

415 There is a four hour utube video by Jenny Nicholson, about her trip to the now defunct DEIsney Galactic Starcruiser hotel. She paid $6066 for a two night stay for the experience, and explains the incredible suck of it.

She has a slightly annoying high pitched voice. The bullshittiness of it is interesting. As a small bonus, her average looking friend appears to have a nice rack, but sadly, I have seen little of her in the first hour.

This video is making the rounds right now, and has over six million views. At least she can get some of her money back via Google ads.

I just heard about it tonight when Valiant Renegade mentioned it. It came out a week ago or so, and it is causing a stir in the financial news, because these financial reporters are imbeciles and are finally starting to wake up to the shittiness that has been DEIsney for the last number of years.

It takes a youtoober, be it something niche, like this, to an investigative type guy, like turtleboy, to shake things up and deliver real news.
