I still use wikipedia, mainly for birth/death date and info that cannot be easily lied about. I'm always surprised and shouldn't be of how often the sexuality of the person is questioned. You know, were they actually gay or lesbian. Found it again when I looked up John McCrae the author of In Flanders Field. It was questioned but not proven, if just speculation remove it from the site or here's a novel idea don't mention it, who cares.

Interesting choice of colors, but suffers from a lack of symmetry. Blue is a bit too heteronormative and stars invoke religious undertones.

Such a powerful poem. In high school my choir had a lovely a cappella arrangement of the poem we would sing on Veteran's Day. It was moving and somewhat haunting.

There's an old wooden pallet in our garage my wife wants me paint up like the flag. Wouldn't be an actual reproduction, just one of those country inspired things you'd see in the heartland.
She want's to prop it up at the end of our driveway near the road. Thinking a couple rattle cans of paint, some tape and a template for the stars.... maybe 30 minutes of actual work. Always liked this one for the way he caught the feel of a flag carried in war. Worn and showing the smoke of battle but treasured all the more for that and carefully displayed.

My father needed his father's signature to join the US Army, WW2. He went into the infantry, fighting first in Africa and then Italy.
He returned home age 22 at the end of WW2. He had changed so, he was not immediately recognized by his dad and sisters. He lived with mental scars of combat & war throughout his life but was a good and fair man, always. He died exactly 20 years to the day, to the very hour, in the same town, in the same manner as his father. (Heart attack. His father passed at home, dad in the hospital.) He had had a limited education but was well read, enjoyed sports and politics, and told all of us the UN was no damn good. Several decades have passed but I still miss talking with him and listening to his opinions & reasoning. Our nation is worth fighting for. Thanks to the patriots.
