Clowns To The Left Of Me, ONTs To The Right

Welcome friends, to Friday meme night. I'd like to ask for a minute of silence before we get started. Kabuso, the dog who became a meme, passed away peacefully in her sleep last night. RIP Doge.

The complaint tablet to Ea-nāṣir (UET V 81)[1] is a clay tablet that was sent to the ancient city-state Ur, written c. 1750 B.C.. It is a complaint to a merchant named Ea-nāṣir from a customer named Nanni. Written in Akkadian cuneiform, it may be the oldest known written customer complaint. It is currently kept in the British Museum.[2] In 2015, the tablet's content and Ea-nāṣir in particular gained popularity as an online meme.[3][4][5]

67 Years ago I played baseball in an over 40 league. I was pitching one game and threw a non-breaking ball and the batter went yard on me. Pissed me off so I loaded up on the first pitch to the next batter and the pitch got way from me. He went down in a cloud of dust. I just missed his head.

I had the misfortune of of coming up to bat in our half of that inning. First pitch was a curve ball that nailed me in right the left butt cheek. I was laughing before it hit me. First base coach asked if I was OK. "Yeah" I said, "That's baseball". Loved playing that game.

So you can't get the joke from context, you only get it if you already know the joke?

Sometimes an "inside joke" is funny, just from how inside you have to be to get the joke. However, I frequently see little Twitter clips (like on Instapundit) where you are supposed to get it from the content, but there isn't enough there.

I never knew if those were "teasers" so you would actually sign up for that social media to be able to read the full conversation.

Yes, but they also want "it" because they know it weakens the family, weakens society.

It is no longer about accepting "the other", it is about denouncing "your own" (traditional family) beliefs, and accepting demonic tradition as not just normal, but superior to your own traditional Christian culture.

If you accept anal sex and trans perversion as "normal", your Christian beliefs have been lost, or worse, those beliefs have been forcefully sodomized.

Mixed feelings.

At bottom, I don't have a problem with mixed-race couples. Maybe not because I'm super enlightened but because I'm an SOB and could never have been picky about any chick crazy enough to love me.

But I am bothered by the relentless propaganda we see in all media about mixed-race couples. Like the endless gay stuff, it's not innocent. They're trying to program us. They think they have some stake in affecting out behavior - either because they think we whites are racists who need reprogramming or because they're quite serious about ending whiteness, or both. Anyone sensible would object to either/both of those goals.

200 Deutsch should have an expression about raining heavily (in re list above) that's multi-syllabic, cruel, and borderline obscene. It should, but the only idiomatic expressions I've come across are "Es regnet wie aus Kübeln" (It's raining out of buckets/It's raining like it's out of buckets) and "Hundewetter" (Dog Weather).

Now, insults, though .... " Es gibt kein schlechtes Wetter, nur schlechte Kleidung " (There is no bad weather, only bad clothing) and "Ein Gesicht wie sieben Tage Regenwetter" (A face like it's been raining for a week). Plus the stern "Wir sind ja nicht aus Zucker" (We are not made out of sugar, aka Rain's not gonna kill ya, you wuss).

Four men are captured by a tribe in the middle of Africa.

The tribe leader gives them the choice of either death, or they can try their luck at "African Roulette."

The men, as one of the choices seemingly had a chance to stay alive, hastily all chose the second option.

The tribe leader lined up 6 extremely gorgeous women in front of the men, and said "You must choose one of these beautiful women to preform oral sex on you."

The men saw nothing wrong with this and were ecstatic at their luck, yet confused about the "roulette" part.

As they chose their women and were getting ready, the tribe leader spoke up and said, "One of them is a cannibal."

216 >> Out of curiosity, how does your weather station report/record temps?

It's an Ambient Weather WS-2000. The outdoor unit sends a burst of data to the console every 16 seconds (why 16 s, I don't know). Temp, humidity, absolute barometer, wind speed, wind direction, and rainfall accumulation and rate.

Console then processes those, calculating dew point, and applying relative barometer correction. It logs data every 5 min (this can be adjusted), and this is average of the last 5 minutes of 16 s data. Console records peaks of the instantaneous data. The 90.5F was one of those temp peaks.

Now, I've got in connected to Wunderground as well as Ambient's own network, which do their own processing and averaging.

Now, for the data it sends to Wunderground and Ambient. It sends a list of "current" values with each transmission, at an adjusable interval.

It took me a while to figure out what rate Wunderground like, and once per minute seemed to satisfy it. Some send it as rapidly as 15 seconds.

Wunderground then averages that data and produces its own 5 min averages, and logs the peaks.

274 One priest 's opinion, which I will badly paraphrase. is that while most animals don't have souls, pets, since we have in some ways humanized them, are sort of lifted up from their base natures and may indeed, with God's grace, have an afterlife.
Like as we are made in the image of God, we have also through our love, remade pets into our image. Which is right and proper since Man was given dominion over the earth.
"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."

Close - a literal translation would be "a pile (or heap) of sugar." Zuckerstadt would be the closest to "Sugartown." Although, given the German tendency to tack words onto words, you could go with Zuckerortschaft, "Sugarvillage," which could be stretched to have the meaning of a small town.

362 Isn't Sugar Mountain a Neil Young song?

Posted by: Bertram Cabot, Jr. at May 24, 2024 11:44 PM (63Dwl)

363 I read an interesting article online, wish I could find it to share. Kind of a scholarly work, someone noted astonishing similarities in ancient stories around the world that occurred in very widely separated early civilizations, going back about as far as Ur in some cases, with respect to dogs.

One theme involved the afterlife - in order to get into heaven, a kind of audit is performed, your entire life. How the prospective candidate for paradise scored was in no small way influenced by how well he treated his dogs.

Another commonality was that Dogs were also said to be able to see spirits or demons outside human perception, and otherwise provide protection against them. (See, they aren’t barking at a leaf after all)

And then my favorite maybe, upon acceptance into heaven, they will tell you “no dogs allowed”. But this isn’t really true. It’s a *test*.

You *only* get into heaven if you tell them “If my dog can’t go, I don’t wanna go”. I think it was Mark Twain, or maybe Will Rogers, once wrote something like “If heaven doesn’t exist, I wanna go wherever dogs go”, sort of similar conclusion stated differently.

The science fiction novel "City" by Clifford D. Simak has dogs on a future Earth gaining the power of speech, and talking with humans as equals. They are provided with small robots to act as their hands. The dogs can see into other dimensions, or timelines, which the dogs call "Cobbly Worlds" (inhabited by cobblies). Some are neutral or benign, but others are quite horrific, and the Dogs wall them off.

The WS-2000 does wind speed as follows. The outdoor unit samples speed and direction every second. For the 16s transmission, the speed is the average of the last 16 samples, and reported gust is the peak of those 16.

The outdoor unit also reports rainfall rate as the number of trips per the last 10 minute period.

So the outdoor unit does some processing itself.

So the outdoor unit does some processing itself.

You saw the guy wire rig I'd affixed to the "tower" for my OTA/TV and Weather Station gear. Last week's Hobby thread.

Those guy wires support the 6'3" above the fascia mount. An in that role, they completely suppress the "vibrations" that play hell with the "tipping cup" rain gauge system.

So, even if your Weather Station is mounted to a 6' pole out in the yard? Drive some ground augurs in at 120 degree radials, out far enough from the main pole as to result in a 45 degree angle. You can use wire clamps for the cables, doesn't have to be swaged, as I did.

But the turnbuckles are essential. Gotta be able to dial in the tension on those wires. Do this, and your tipping buckets will tighten right up on the reporting accuracies.

Thanks to the responses I got to night ..I sadly no longer believe that.. The treatment I got tonight was honestly shameful and very hurtful.. But don't worry I promise I will never ask for anything again from the horde..

453 “Sugar Sugar” is a formulaic, catchy pop tune. It has that tension buildup … and then release into the chorus or whatever. That’s about the extent of my music. They knew how to churn out hits back then, even if it was “bubblegum” schlock.

The Monkees were sort of subversive, despite their squeeky clean beatle-ey image. The television show especially. Tork was a pretty strange cat. Lived up in Laurel Canyon with all the other hippies as it was cheap in those days. His pad was party station for everybody, movies and music celebrities alike along with Cass Elliott.

455 Incidently, in re the audit of the soul in the afterlife, the Egyptians developed a theology in the Middle Kingdom period that required the deceased to be judged by Osiris, a process that hinged upon one's heart being weighed on a balance scale against a feather. If yours was a virtuous life, the feather would be heavier. If you were wicked, your heart would be heavier and you would be chucked into the gaping maw of the Devourer of Souls.

The tipping bucket for this unit (actually, it's a single "tipping spoon" design, not the double bucket) has tracked pretty accurately with the regular gauge.

For low rainfall rates. We got a pretty heavy downpour here last week, and the rainfall rate hit 3.8"/hr per the unit. A nearby station (within 1 mile) hit well over 4"/hr.

The unit recorded a total of 0.94" during that event, and the regular gauge was a smidge over 1".

Undercounting during heavy rainfall is one of the main errors of this design. It misses rain that continues to funnel in while it's tripping.

My cousin mentioned that in his experience, the tipping buckets do much worse than expected during heavy rainfall, and for that reason, he prefers the "weight bucket" type for the automated stations.

And this is the high end meteorological grade equipment. He said all of them, in his experience will start undercounting when rainfall hits 4"/hr, and get very poor above that.

Today, 'Dumplings' a Chinese film about an actress trying to stay young. Not really a horror. I'm in Canada so I didn't find it that disturbing. But it confirmed what is keeping Hillary, Nancy and other liberals so young. Pretty asian actresses, over 30 but still pretty. Gratuitous shots down the cook's dress showing her boobs. Boobs are always a plus.

Listened to him play bass for an entire set, there. Quaffed beers with them both.

Backwards Boy *was* legit, his wife's dying was legit. His friendship with Insomniac, was legit.

As I saw it, when he met the New Lady after his wife's demise, SHE never trusted The Horde, and steered him away from Texas. But not before the funds had been sent.

I'd wager that the shame of that weighs upon him to this day. As it should.

That is being a parent right there - they can be three or thirty-three, and we still worry. Another aspect of that episode that always strikes me is the vindication that Donald Pleasence's character is blessed with. I know it seems trite, but to truly learn, especially where his character is emotionally at that time, that one did make a positive difference, is something that many people would count as a life well-lived.

And there are so many people who should be told that, who perhaps never will be.

568 Thanks jim.

No previews. I grew up in a small town 30 minutes to a theatre. Never saw many movies. But thanks to commercials, kind of knew what they were about.

Always liked comedies...'Corner Gas' in Canada, 'Big Bang Theory' and of course the older classics.

After 2001, when comedy died, I just gravitated to kids shows which were less political, and the best were pretty funny. Until the last few years.

From kids shows to 'Deliverance'...might seem like a huge horro jump. Bit I once woke up to 'Fay and Fluffy' 'entertaining a group of kids on their own 'Family Channel' show. WHAT THE HELL WAS THIS SHOWN TO KIDS!

Yeah, yeah rape scene.
But this, shown to kids! And parents put their kids in the audience!

These most disturbing movies are just me catching up...

I'm reading. ASOS stations do use tipping buckets (Cuz would be skeptical....). Expensive tipping buckets. They compensate for undercatch during heavy rainfall. You can estimate the undercatch error, and correct based on the trip rate.

But they have to be carefully cleaned, maintained, and calibrated. Dirt and trash can mess up the balance point, and all that. (Weighing bucket types have similar trash and gunk accumulation problems.

Basically, the old 8" SRG is the standard for rain measurement.

Fun fact about that one - the two backwoods gentlemen who -shall we say - take a liking to Ned Beatty were old schoolmates of Burt Reynolds. When he saw what the script called for, Reynolds told John Boorman that he knew a couple of guys that fit the bill, and the rest is history - disturbing, dreadful history.

Also, James Dickey and John Boorman got into frequent fist-fights over artistic differences during the film shoot. Dickey won in the punch-ups, but Boorman's vision is the one that appeared in the film.

'Hot Legs' has always been my favorite Rod Stewart song.

Forget about now, even when it came out it was politically incorrect.

Hot legs, you're an alley cat
Hot legs, you scratch my back
Hot legs, bring your mother too
I love you, honey
. . .
Hot legs, you're well-equipped
Hot legs, oh, your pussy's whipped
Hot legs, I just love your lips
I love you, I love you, I love you, honey

At least Rod's 'love songs' were sane:

In the morning make sure you're gone.
I'm talkin' to you
Hot legs, wearing me out

I sense a theme. Shades of Faces' 'Stay With Me'.

Note the "heating tipping bucket". This attempts to measure even frozen precipitation by melting it.

They give the undercount correction function for the system there. It kicks in at 1.8"/hr rate, but still will mess up during extremely heavy events.

The heater introduces errors due to evaporation/sublimation.

'Family Channel'

Canada's equivalent of Disney Channel. They used to broadcast Disney shows. That's the older kids channel.

Those bastards were also on 'Family Jr.' Geared to the youngest kids.

You can't plop your kids in front of the tv anymore.

It's late. I have to get to bed. Bit 'Popularity Papers' has an asian girl with inter-racial gay fathers. And in the 'Pridesmaid' episode, the middle school was celebrating 'GAY PRIDE WEEK' and had her drag queen father host the week.

It ended with kids in a gay pride parade and one young student transformed into a drag queen!! WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK! Seriously, what the fuck?

Search for it on streaming sites.

598 >> Davis Vantage weather stations are very good. The can get pricey depending on the model

$1000 - $1800. They are pretty good.

They really got fancy with the "tipping spoon". Their latest is a weighing tipping spoon. It's not passive trip. The unit weighs the spoon, and actively trips it when weight reaches the threshold. It then "re-tares" the spoon when it returns.

The idea is to compensate for dirt and gunk as well as wetting.

Compensating for heavy rainfall undercount is still a problem.

Maybe we should rethink the notion of measuring rainfall in inches or millimeters. How about mass per unit area? Have a large funnel, with a catchment area of one square meter. It feeds into a bucket on a balance beam, and weight of the bucket is measured by a strain gage transducer. When the bucket becomes almost full, you close a valve in the neck of the funnel for a few seconds, and run a pump to suck the bucket dry, and then carry on. Rest is handled in software.

If they are 1/4" thick, and bear the Edison label, they are almost certainly Diamond Discs. Look at the reproducer, the part that follows the groove, and connects to the horn. The reproducer will have a diaphragm about 2" in diameter that is parallel to the plane of the record on a Diamond Disc player. On a regular Victrola, the plane of the diaphragm is at 90 degrees to the plane of the record.

I am no expert, but I read the Wikipedia article, which is pretty comprehensive.

639 AOP-- The reproducer is perpendicular to record surface, IIRC.

Perhaps the player and records are not correctly matched? I dunno. Anything is possible with my fam, LOL.

But siblings & I would 'play' these, years ago. Some were cool, some were bad, some were just funny...

According to Wiki, there were some third-party phonograph manufacturers who built machines that could play either type of record, or built adaptors that would permit playing a diamond disc on a regular machine. Problem being, the grooves on a diamond disc were not up to the job a dragging the reproducer across the record surface, and playing them in such a way really took a toll on the life of the records.

I would suggest you get the make and model of the machine, and record the titles of the discs. Some of the discs might be quite scarce, and have collector value.

That's the basic "weighing bucket" type of gauge. The old units had a rotating drum with graph paper. As the weight of the bucket increased, it would move a pen arm creating a trace on the paper.

My cousin operated a few of those at various NWS stations over his life. You've got to get out there every often and check and clean it.

Yes. The mechanical reproducers took a lot of force from the groove to make the sound, so the wear rate on the steel needles was impressive. If you wanted a softer sound, you could get cactus needles, too.

And the Edison Diamond disc did indeed use a diamond stylus.

That made me think about all the places I've posted in the past, including TepidAir, but gave up for various reasons. As much as I hate 'discuss', it cuts out a lot of registrations.

That green place was where I first ran into sock puppeting, and it was hilarious. Not the primary reason, by no means, but a reason why I still enjoy the HQ is the sock puppetry. It's its own art form. It's a meme without the picture/image, well, maybe a mental image.

733 And now that I think about 'Catholic', I realize I have never ever ever seen photos of Dementia Joe attending a church service of any kind or denomination. I don't mean giving a speech or a political rally, I mean going in as an attendee, only speaking with the congregation. Every president I've ever seen has at least gone to The National Cathedral, even Bill holding a Bible in one hand and Hillary's hand in the other during BlowJobGate. Just find it weird.

It's where the verb 'flounce' took on a new internet life. People still do it, even here.

CJ didn't go off the deep end, though, he just went back to his roots. He thought his conservative '09/11 red pill' schtick would make money. When he didn't get enough respect -- or cash -- he reverted to his pre-9/11 loony lefty mentality which has serious control freak issues.

767 I discovered LGF after the Dan Rather/W Bush 60 Minutes hoax crap. I barely recall it now. I think 60 Minutes with Dan Rather had some 'evidence' about Bush and his NG service. They even had a letter proving whatever the hell it was. Unfortunately for that dumbass Rather and his idiot staff, the letter was written with MS Word Font, which wasn't around when Bush was flying jets in the NG. My memory is a bit fuzzy about the details, but LGF glommed onto that story and got, briefly, a thing. Anyway, I stopped going there when Charles 'reasoned' that McCain lost the election because of Creationists. Yea, that was it, Chucky.
