10 Evening and morning to all the early risers and late toilers out there!

Dream story: I was wandering with Miss Linda around a college campus that was unfamiliar to me. Apparently I had a job interview. The building I was supposed to meet the guy in was fenced off. For some reason we had to traverse a catwalk outside the building -- an engineering building, of all things -- a narrow catwalk with no handrails, just flimsy netting on both sides that blew around in the wind.

So I call the guy. In my dream, I was aware he looked and sounded like Newt Gingrich. I hoped he'd reschedule, but he asked me to meet him at a bar in the nearby shopping mall. We had to discuss something about money to be transferred to a bank account. I had about twenty minutes, so Miss Linda and I went over to the mall, which was connected to this college campus in some way, and it looked empty and closed up too! And then . . . I woke up.

Thus expressing the futility of modern life?

40 And, in that same article:

"In one high-profile incident from January, nonconsensual, pornographic deepfakes of Taylor Swift went viral on X, with one of the most widespread posts receiving hundreds of thousands of likes, and 45 million views. Social platforms like X have historically failed at protecting women from these circumstances — but since Taylor Swift is one of the most powerful women in the world, X intervened by banning search terms like “taylor swift ai” and taylor swift deepfake.”

Oh no, poor little things! Men haven't been protecting you!

59 The sustainable aviation fuel thing* has a telling line: “To bring these fuels to the scale needed would require massive subsidies".

To be fair, he has other objections which get closer to the mark, but the real point is that scaling them is impossible. Unlike the alternatives added to car fuels (ethanol and biodiesel) the SAFs currently being tried do mostly seem to be "sustainable" and not harming other sectors like food production. The downside of that is of course that they are just not scalable. At first glance there is literally no way to do it.

If I can get the backing and funding I would like to research this, but that seems unlikely given the politicisation of research resources.

It would be pretty easy overall.

The richest 1% consume/contribute something like 20%+ of all "carbon" whatever (and more than something like 60% of the not-as-rich combined).

All the people who say they care about this silliness would have to do is pretend they care about this silliness and it would IMMEDIATELY do more to have an effect on what they pretend to care about than anything they insist you and I do.

But they don't care because it's not real. Like you pointed out, it's simply a way to make money.
