Biden Announces Another Multibillion Dollar Giveaway of Republican Taxpayer Money to Democrat Layabouts
Update: Trump Tied with Biden in NH; No One Shows Up to Hear Biden "Speak" in NH

The president is allowed to make up laws and direct how taxpayer funds will be spent without the input of Congress. Didn't you know that, Racist?

Biden announces additional $7.7B in student loan handouts: "Billions more in election year giveaways"

The Biden administration has announced a new $7.7 billion student debt relief initiative for 160,000 borrowers, a move that has been criticized by Republicans as "unconstitutional" and an "election year giveaway."

The $7.7 billion relief package will benefit three categories of borrowers: those receiving Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF), those enrolled in President Biden's Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan, and those receiving forgiveness on income-driven repayment (IDR) due to administrative adjustments.

As of this announcement, the Biden administration has cleared more than $167 billion in student loan debt for 4.75 million Americans in what Trump campaign Senior Advisor Jason Miller described as "Billions more in election year giveaways."

Republicans have criticized the move as unconstitutional and unfair to the American people, with some citing a 2022 Supreme Court ruling that the Biden administration overstepped its authority when it announced it would cancel up to $400 billion in student loans.

Biden's going to be announcing a lot of Jackpot Giveaways. And reminding voters of his previous government spending. He visited New Hampshire to make the less-controversial announcement about signing an actual Congress-passed law in 2022 increasing benefits for veterans.

And why was he doing a campaign event in New Hampshire at all?

Because Trump has tied him there, albeit with both getting much less than a majority of support.

SHOCK POLL: Trump Tied With Biden in Blue New Hampshire
Posted to Politics May 20, 2024 by Michael Graham

Democrats have all but owned the Granite State's four Electoral College votes, winning seven of the past eight presidential contests -- including Joe Biden's eight-point victory over President Donald Trump in 2020.

But the latest NHJournal/Praecones Analytica poll finds Biden tied with Trump in New Hampshire, putting him at risk of becoming the first Democrat to lose the state since Al Gore in 2000.

The poll puts Trump ever-so-slightly ahead at 36.6%, with Biden at 36.5%, and RFKJr. at 14.6%.

Update: A commenter reminded me that barely anyone showed up to hear " " " the president " " " speak in blue New Hampshire.

[T]he reaction to the speech that he was able to generate, or perhaps not generate, was also something. You would normally think that someone who's allegedly the leader of the free world would be able to draw a lot of people. Instead, you'd have more tables, people, and excitement at the senior center on bingo night, some observed. It looked like he couldn't even fill a room, which is a very sad showing.

It looked like they had a few select attendees for the speech and that was it.

As the NH Journal observed, there were more Trump folks who had been lined up along the road outside against Biden than people inside.

But comparing it to bingo wasn't exactly fair, the NH Journal noted, because bingo is fun.

It's like a Who's Who of Who Farted?

I don't even know what that means!

14 People like to frame this as giving away "taxpayer money."

However, considering the government has already spent all of its collected taxpayer money by this point, almost all of this has to be borrowed money from the future.

Wimpy "I will gladly pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today" ain't got nothin' on FJB's completely reckless borrowing and spending spree.

So junior bureaucrats get it written off and those otherwise on the vote farm get yet another deferral?

Good strategy, actually. Party men have the problem go away entirely and the outsiders get the message that they'd best stay on the reservation if they want more goodies.

Frightening.

But in closely contested races everyone will come home to Team Blue by October.

He can't afford it. This is preposterous. I did some rough back-of-the-envelope arithmetic to check when this came up on the last thread.

But it will cost around $11 billion per month to do it, or require an increase in output by around a third. Something in that neighborhood.

The SPR has about 18 days' supply in it if it is drained indiscriminately. Since we only need to increase production by a third, that can be tripled. Less than two months of prices that low, and the SPR is *gone* - and that assumes immediate effect.

To a point. The most dangerous thing, however, is to assume that this remains true.

Demographically-inverted Red China nonetheless has "leftover women" and the West has men checking out altogether for various reasons (or the very loud but extremely small "passport bro" movement).

What happens if the market just ... vanishes?

Just reading abut that NH poll. Most interesting part is Kennedy's number. New England retains a fondness for the Kennedy name no matter how much negative stuff is said.

Will they actually vote for him in November?

Posted by: Aquamarine

My point is that it doesn't matter. They are either D voters or never Trump voters. They are not going to vote for Trump. That is why it doesn't matter.
And I disagree with Doof. Those "R" voters who dislike Trumps demeanor didn;t vote for him last time and won't vote for him this time.
It is going to be harder to queer the vote in the bluest blue areas that handed the vote to Biden if they also have to figure out an algorithm to take into account even a small percentage of the vote for Kennedy. That vote will be somewhat unpredictable.

Sheng nü (Chinese), translated as 'leftover women' or 'leftover ladies', are women who remain unmarried in their late twenties and beyond in China. The term was popularized by the All-China Women's Federation.

Except that this doesn't distinguish between voluntarily unmarried women and those who can't find a man. From what I've read, men are desperate, putting themselves into deep financial hock and living like monks in order to accumulate the capital for an apartment, which is the price of admission. I can see those Republicans who are the investor and credentialed class go for someone like RFK Jr. because essentially most of them are in the slow process of becoming Dems anyway. This is the donor class of the GOPe and has run most of the party machinery for decades aka life long GOP types. They are just fine in the brave new world and too bad for their fellow citizens who they view as shiftless, drug addicted, and lazy. Far better for this class to bring in illegals for menial services becuz they can lay off the costs to the taxpayer and pay the minimum to the illegals.

It is the childhood vaccine schedule that has been inflicted on infants and small children.
My oldest grandson has borderline autistic traits, and there is otherwise nothing wrong with him. He is nice, sweet kid. But he is 6 years old and still not a very cogent talker. Both my sons (including his father) were talking a lot by 2, 2-1/2. I could carry on a normal conversation with my oldest son by the time he was 3 or so.
It is especially the MMR combination vaccine. But there are something like 40 or more vaccines that kids get before they are 1 year old.

It's not for young men, it's for single middle-aged men.

The parents of these women stake out a spot and start trying to get older men to take their daughters. "She has X, Y and Z. Make offer." Then if a man bites - or even if he doesn't, some of the parents are aggressive and will approach a likely candidate and begin an interrogation - they begin a Q&A to determine if he's good enough and then make the hard sell.

221 Except that this doesn't distinguish between voluntarily unmarried women and those who can't find a man. From what I've read, men are desperate, putting themselves into deep financial hock and living like monks in order to accumulate the capital for an apartment, which is the price of admission. Many are by choice. Many also regret that choice and want to change it. Many also refused when they could have for whatever reason. That happens in the West, too, for different reasons.

But in China it was pretty acute. Women knew they had the edge and used it to wildly inflate expectations, turning away from men they might have accepted in different conditions. There's a fair amount of "oh shit" at the moment. It is overblown to some degree because it is *extremely* sensational, but it is a real phenomenon.

And easy! Once you decide it's time to have kids you can totally get pregnant ASAP, right? And if not, there's infertility treatments and surrogacy that's totally not expensive or difficult!! /s

One stealth effect of the pill and abortion has been this notion that one has absolute control over one's fertility.

A lot of women inexplicably think that babies are an infinite commodity, that they can just flush any unwanted one when it's inconvenient and later pick it up again any ol' time down the road. As with the Climate Cult having people believe they personally can control the weather, young women have been hoodwinked into believing they can summon babies at their convenience when they get around to wanting them.

Society is probably not going to have the wealth going forward to sustain that sort of behavior for all but the wealthiest who can always go the surrogate route anyway.

Severe financial crises from debt and informal/formal repudiation of public debt last for decades until enough political impetus exists to break the social and political situation that caused it (such as Millei in Argentina). Wars can shorten that reset because when everything is devastated--society takes off the guardrails to keep from starving (see post WWII Germany for example).

Since the Bush years, he has been disappointed that his dream candidates never get to run for the brass ring. So he has been fairly up front about disliking a lot of the GOP general election nominees for prezzie including Trump. That gives his criticisms some bite of nominees and their short comings. However, he is not realistic that if he got the candidates he was pining for, that he would not end up disliking them as well.

The best policy is never put one's politicians on a pedestal--they will all do things that betray you, cause you harm, and live far better lives after they serve (Trump may be an exception here) than the US citizens that they serve.

I've seen too many candidates, officeholders, political parties, donors, etc. behave like jackasses when the general public is not around. I have seen some vilified pols actually be honest, decent, and hard working types that are hated by their colleagues and many of the people claiming to share the same party with them.

NH hasn't been red in a long time. Purple, but not red. The GOP in this state functions around the level of kindergarten. The greed, incompetence and corruption that exists in the GOPe party here is believable, but shocking.

Now, factor in the great migration from MA, NY, CT, NJ and others during COVID. People able to work from home, so they come to their vacation homes in NH and declare residency. NH is lost to the GOP.

The GOP hasn't been Republican - representing the interests of the voters who sent them, as opposed to the moneyed interests who've purchased them - for more decades than I care to think about.

354 The process of egg freezing consists of egg cells being frozen at -196°C and maintained at that temperature for storage. This prevents the egg cells from degrading with time, meaning that they could theoretically be stored forever. However, there are regulations set by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) restricting the amount of time that eggs can be stored for. (this is a British website)

How long can I store my eggs for?

When stored for social reasons, such as lack of partner, or choosing to postpone pregnancy, eggs can be kept in storage for up to 10 years. After this period, they must be discarded. The HFEA regulations allow eggs from people that suffer from premature infertility to be stored for up to 55 years. Your doctor or clinician will be able to tell you whether you are eligible for extended egg storage and advise you on what to do if you meet the necessary criteria.

That includes Conservative Media TM too and they just won't let their buddies, no matter how discredited, disappear because they are in the club and we, the people are not.

Jim Treacher, for example, and Erick Erickson (has now apparently added Wood to his monicker). Both are paid shills and truly vile people yet they still get published. That goes for almost all of the NR people from the last twenty years or so and the whole Bullshit Bulwark crew in particular. After that the clock was set back to birth developmentally and he started exhibiting autistic traits such a stimmy behavior (hitting yourself), ecolalia and the such.

He just turned 20 yesterday but he’ll never be able to live on his own. He is only moderately autistic and thankfully can take care of his basic hygiene needs.

A new poll from UMass Lowell today has Biden +6 over Trump in the 5-way. Trump usually does better in the 5-way, btw, than in the H2H. This poll has it 42-36 for Biden. The other 22% is scattered hither & yon.

The NH Journal poll, which Ace sites at the top, is not included in the RCP avg, for whatever reasons. The NH Journal is populist/right politically.

Although there have only been 3 RDP-approved NH polls so far, & a couple are somewhat stale, the RCP avg of these is Biden +6.

Based on past bitter experience, I'm skeptical about Trump having a genuine shot at winning NH.

Ironically, NH is the whitest state in the U.S., IIRC. So... can't blame this one on AOP & Cori Bush.

Anyone who voted for Trump last time is going to vote for him this time. They know their vote was stolen. No way Biden is going to get "81 million" votes this time after what he has put the country through. If there is an undecided voter out there, is that person gong to decide that Biden is the best choice? They are going to vote 3rd party or stay home.

Good point, but I want to know what the CPR is for "fresh" oocytes. I think many people assume it's 100%. It isn't.

Nobody is saying (at least I'm not) that 100% of fertilized eggs lead to children, nor that later maternity doesn't diminish one's chances of a successful pregnancy, or that a successful pregnancy is guaranteed (which is also true of young women). But it is incorrect to say that frozen eggs rarely lead to fertilization. Your extract does not compare successful pregnancy rates for frozen vs fresh eggs.

Nah. Perot LOVED free trade - so long as he and his family controlled it. He wouldn’t be able to control it with NAFTA so he hated free trade. (When you get down to it, free trade opponents’ biggest problem is with freedom. I’m not even a free trade purist. I am of the view of Denali: free trade with all except the PRC, they are the enemy).

And Perot loved telling people what the problems were without offering solutions. He talked a great game in other areas but had zero to offer in terms of solutions. If I were of voting age in 1992 with hindsight I would have voted Alfred E. Neuman.

If you look at a map of north Fort Worth, there are about 10,000 acres in an area called Alliance. Perot family owns that. The alliance was between Perot and Jim Wright, dem speaker. They snuck a free trade deal into legislation so that Perot could build a huge import facility there and not pay taxes. Bush pushed NAFTA through and took most of the value away. Perot vowed to get revenge, and worked with Clinton to ensure that Bush lost even though Clinton only got 40% of the vote. Four years later, Clinton called again, and this time gave Perot part of the social security remittance business if he would run again. Now, Alliance is a huge distribution center for Fedex, Amazon, and others.

Gell Mann amnesia effect coined by Michael Crichton. A lot of the NTers on the right look for people that they would feel comfortable with their peers allowing them to support. Since their circle of friends revile candidate A over candidate B, then the great unwashed ignoramuses must be led to candidate B. This sort of NTer is locked into the NY-DC axis and often composed of the minor footsoldiers of the party apparatus. They read material passed around by their group, they talk to insiders that corroborate and amplify their feelings, and so on. So they read nonsense by approved writers in Conservative media and nod approvingly with them. But, essentially, they ignore all the past time when these pundits of wisdom got it wrong or were found to be paid tainted whores for one campaign or another or simply disappointed officeseekers.

Hard to describe DC if you haven't lived there for a while but it is literally full of people that are simply loathsome toadies for their political patrons.

Am I missing sarcasm? There are loans made directly from the govt. in some cases, but many student loans are private and many people who consolidated their loans did so through private companies. Those people will keep their loan obligations because the government can’t tell a private company to wipe their books. While this is buying votes for some, it’s going to upset others who have the same debt, but because of how they refied, they won’t ever be free from it beyond, you know, paying them back. It is also upsetting those of us who paid astronomical loans back. My story is a little more complicated and I won’t bore you to death with it, but I paid loans I didn’t know I had.

Not necessarily--the money sent to the gubmint for loan payments is not used to pay down the national debt but simply for allow for more gubmint spending. Same as social security and medicare taxes since LBJ's time--the money collected is spent and ious put in their place.

Dynamic analysis is really difficult of money flows and computing what will and will not cause inflation has a lot of problems datawise.

We really do not have a revenue problem but a government spending problem which will lead inevitably to a monetary collapse of some sort in the near future. We are already on the periphery of the historical average time that fiat money schemes exist before they collapse.

People are always going to be enraged by government actions in particulars but the natural path of government is to take from some to give to others. It eventually ends up in past generations sacrificing the future by accumulating huge amounts of debt that can never be repaid.

Some traits survive that wouldn't have in earlier times but those tend to be the ones that matter less given our civilization level. This I assume is more than counterbalanced by the mixing of genes from distant places in the US due to travel to school and jobs rather than picking your mate from a narrow district or the same village and inbreeding.
