Never Leave a Dog Behind Cafe

Japanalley.jpg
Tokyo backstreet
@_7yk7_

Radio-controlled car stunt exhibition.

Dog takes itself for a walk.

Some fun parachuting video.

Cat seizes and pounces an innocent dog.

Dog gets vengeance on a cat.

Happy adopted dog. A very happy adopted dog.

Rafting over a waterfall.

Knucklehead bears.

The advanced version of faking the throw.

Vertigo trigger warning.

A service dog gets to meet his hero, Pluto. (He's got a Pluto stuffed toy in his mouth.)

This is why I stick to a Vespa.

River otter being adorable (and also evil).

Cute dog. Oh wait it's a bat.

Huskies making beautiful music.

A man buys a wading pool for his husky. She doesn't know what to make of it, but she sure is excited about it!

A family of tigers out for a stroll.

Cute little farmer boy.

Steve Inman:

Everyone hates TikTokers.

Instant karma for a highway-blocker.

Absolute classic video of clearing the street of a Stinkie.

Catching a dreg keying your car.

Graphic: A guy stabs another guy, and then stalks him, attempting to stab him more. But the injured man then starts fighting back. Tough beginning, beautiful ending.

Just a lot of violence. I wanted to link this just because of his new nicknames for the taser: "Edison Medicine" and "Zeus Juice."

Wonderful story:

Don and Gobi have their own Instagram channel.

24 Details of UPS screwing me for 5 days since last Saturday "we tried to get payment/deliver but you weren't at home" [probably 12 times total] was because they have a shortage of handheld debit/credit card readers [that every f#cking pizza joint and restaurant with delivery in the f#cking country has] and I was to psychically know this and pay online instead of at the door. [That the tracking page says I could do.]

Saw a UPS truck on my street and talked to the v good driver--who had my package on his f#cking truck but not on his e-clipboard--who told me about the reader shortage.

Tried paying online about 7 times with 2 different browsers and a v good white American techie trying to help me the last three times but it rejected my card every time.

Will instead try paying at a UPS store with the Brokerage COD form the driver gave me for my package that will still see it delivered to my door and not a pickup.

25 Elvis' best friend is a Golden who is almost the same age, they've grown up together and are besties. Elvis stays with him sometimes when I travel.

One of the Goldens favorite things to do is grab Elivs' leash and walk him. They both seem to like it judging by the dog smiles and tail wags. It's pretty cute.

100 Yesterday I had to deal with the phone service for the city Public Works uses when all the staff were at lunch. They either employ people who can't hear addresses, or they have a policy of transposing addresses and names when reading them back to get a verification on the address.

anyhow, since it was something to do with the neighborhood gas line, he put me on hold to do something important, probably do his notes in the system.
While he had me on hold, and I was pretty sure he just had me on mute, I told the lady I was with a blond joke.

Half way through he came back on the line to say that he had put a notice through and that someone would contact me back. I asked if he wanted to hear the rest of the joke, and he said he was listening. I finished it, he snorted, and we both hung up.

Phone customer service jobs are hard, and no one loves you when you are tied to a computer and have a headset screwed into your ear.

Not only more understandable but more useful since they're already the computer the indians are typing the script into to see what the next prompt they're supposed to phonetically sound out directs them to say before not understanding that, either.

Man, the thought of those poor indians losing all those once-American jobs just breaks my heart.

It could have been worse - my father-in-law went from USAF avionics to a brief detour in Vegas dealing with casino technology, and ended up being the senior person handling IT for a major USPS hub. He often talks about something rather chilling:

Once the first prototypes of e-mail were developed, the Feds were determined that it would be only available though the USPS and it would be treated in the same fashion as regular snail-mail: you would have to pay for each e-mail and the recipient would have to pay for each reply. Plus, you would have to do it in a USPS facility.

Luckily enough, somebody sensible said "Wait a minute here!" and the plan was nipped in the bud. Major bullet dodged there.

Or, how many humans could have been saved? Or how many political wars could have been fought, hence saving humans and pets?

These utopian dreams of "life is meaningful because I saved my soulmate dog" are fun, but not Real Life's dilemmas. They are an escape from real life dilemmas ... which is basically Us versus Evil.

204 Fun story about finding Gobi .. but the cynic in me wonders ... for all the time and cost of uniting with one stray in China, how many (hundreds of?) dogs could have been saved more locally?...

-

That problem was solved over a decade ago.

The United States imports strays from other countries because shelters don't have enough local dogs to adopt out to people that want them, and shelters are a business that can't have supply interruptions.

When in doubt, remember that everything is fake and gay.

Posted by: andycanuck (ZdexC) at May 24, 2024 08:06 PM (ZdexC)

UPS sucks donkey dick for cross-border shipments into Canada. They tack on a huge "brokerage fee" for the onerous task of collecting the GST or HST. Ordinary mail is much better. Canada Post does charge a brokerage fee, but it's a fairly small flat fee, and not a percentage of the goods' value like UPS does.

If you are reasonably close to the border, you ought to check out some of the "shipping outlets" that have sprung up in U.S. border towns as a consequence of this. You pay them a small fee; they receive and hold your package, and you cruise down to the border on your own timetable to pick it up.

If you belong to a gun club, they might already have a preferred provider for this.

222 Random grab from 2003 when they started moving animals from shelter to shelter to meet demand:

"Humane relocation began as a common sense method for helping animals to get adopted through cooperative efforts among city shelters...Over time, as the number of surplus dogs in some cities continued to drop, they began taking in animals from greater distances. For example, some shelters in the greater Portland metropolitan area routinely accept dogs from other counties in Oregon, Washington and sometimes from states as far away as Hawaii...

(farther down in the same link)

According to their own records, one foundation, the Save a Sato program championed by PeTA, has already sent 14,000 dogs to the US. Satos (a slang term for mixed-breed street dogs in Puerto Rico) arrive in US cities practically every day. Dozens of shelters are involved."

https://tinyurl.com/25f3tglv

around 2010 or so they expanded the idea and figured out they could import millions from overseas because the stray animal problem in the U.S. had been solved, but no one could know.

But yeah, life on the farm involves constant killing, and the wildlife are killers themselves. Saw my second fawn today, heard him screaming as I came close to him in a food plot. I delay mowing so I don't mow these tiny fawns that can't even walk yet.

But it is all a balance ... if I saw the cat was killing my chickens, I'd have to kill him. ... But he has been OK with them for months.
