On this matter, I'm in CDB's camp. I hate the fact that from room to room in this house I gain or lose up to 5 minutes. And most of those clocks are not self setting, so I manually go around with my phone and set each one to the correct time. Then, over a period of time they all drift.
They're mostly Chinese pieces of shit, so this fits. Posted by: Martini Farmer at May 19, 2024 02:07 PM (wX5h4) Posted by: Next2Nothing at May 19, 2024 02:07 PM (wX5h4) 32

I had to drive Her Majesty to an appointment last week and on the way it began to rain heavily. This brings out at least two species of idiot. First, there's the idiot who never, ever turns on his lights, no doubt because he has no problem seeing. The other is the idiot who slows way down and turns his emergency blinkers on. Unfortunately this is not illegal in the otherwise great state of Texas. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at May 19, 2024 02:14 PM (wX5h4) Hydroplaning is a thing. Willowed from last thread, but $50K/year Powerhouse HBCU Morehouse:
"Morehouse College typically accepts and attracts "B+" average high school students with an average GPA around 3.48. Most incoming freshmen graduate in the top half of their high school class." https://tinyurl.com/2ysaug7s Wow, they're in the top half of their class. Think about how lousy public schools are now, and how hardly anyone is failed, and how black kids especially are "discouraged" from failing. And this elite HBCU gets mostly B-level students. I don't think a 3.48 is good enough to keep merit based scholarships at a lot of run of the mill state schools. Imagine how bad the classes have to be to make sure B+ level public high school kids - I assume many from terrible inner city schools - can pass the college courses. First World stupidity or tales from the Stoopid Side:
Around 2005 I wanted get my business license to qualify for a Broward County Business License. I had previously passed my test to qualify for a Certificate on Competency way back in 1982 but had changed from exterior remodeling to acrylic bath systems as my desired discipline. I enrolled in one of those construction colleges class that was held in North FL up in the Panhandle. My sister lived in Tallahassee with her family so I made a nice weekend out of it since the all day class was held on Sat Morning at 8 am. I enrolled then made the drive a day early for my class. During check in at the motel the night before I requested a 6 am wake up call. It all went well seemingly until after I awoke and got to my car the clock read 8 am. I was about thirty seconds from storming the reception desk in a tizzy when I realized the night before I drove into a different time zone and my car clock had not reflected it....Whew I dodged a very embarrasing situation ... Einstein heard the toll one evening in May 1905. He had been confounded by a scientific paradox for a decade, and when he gazed up at the tower he suddenly imagined an unimaginable scene. What, he wondered, would happen if a streetcar raced away from the tower at the speed of light?
If he was sitting in the streetcar, he realised, his watch would still be ticking. But looking back at the tower, the clock – and time – would seem to have stopped. It was a break-through moment. Six weeks later, he finished a paper outlining a “special theory of relativity”. Later he would show how space-time, as he called it, affected mass, energy and gravity, foreshadowing the nuclear age, space travel, and our understanding of how stars and celestial bodies interact. Oldie but goodie.
Airline pilot is taxiing, and is out of visual range from the control tower, but he needs to do a time hack, so he calls the tower on the radio requesting the time. The tower calls back, asking "Sir, what kind of pilot are you?" The pilot, irate, calls back "What do you mean what kind of pilot I am? The time is the time! What time is it???" The tower replies: "Sorry sir, we need to know in order to give you the correct answer. What you are determines what we say. For instance: If you are a commercial airline pilot, it is 3:00 pm. If you are an Air Force pilot, it is 1500 hours. If you are a Navy pilot, it is Six Bells. If you are an Army pilot, The Big Hand Points At The 12 And The Little Hand Points At The 3. And if you are a Marine pilot, it's Thursday afternoon. Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 at May 19, 2024 03:16 PM (wX5h4) 276

There was an article in the WSJ about 1 1/2 weeks ago and apparently the FBI is buying that sort of data from these companies. Cute, huh? No subpoena needed if you've installed that "smart" appliance of your own free will!
Posted by: Lizzy --------- Basically they treat all business relations, no matter how sensitive, as obtainable by the Feds. If someone else can buy the data, then the Feds can too with no subpoena or even NSL needed. Alito in a 4th Amendment case dealing with planting trackers on a vehicle, suggested moving from the reasonable expectation of privacy model to that of a mosaic model. In other words, if the Feds are specifically targeting one or a small number of individuals, then they should be required to get a warrant. The idea is that the specificity of the search aimed at particular individuals essentially shreds a person's 4th Amendment privacy and the third party billing doctrine developed in a pen registry case in the 70's, has been expanded well beyond any control by the judiciary of abuses by po po. One other judge expressed interest in the idea but the Deep State hates with a thousand suns having to be accountable to the peons below them. Posted by: whig at May 19, 2024 03:36 PM (wX5h4) 336

The viability of this source depends on the M/E Balance which I suspect doesn't pencil out as cost effective as one might think... You have inputs that, aside from source handling costs, require heating I would suspect, in order to achieve a shift to gas from water, probably without Oxygen, and then separation operations (electrical) for some unknown mass of the element Li that must be purified...I suspect little mass extraction from a very expensive process...
