Animal Frenz and/or Undead Castles Cafe

grimmenstein.jpg
Burg Grimmenstein, Austria
Likely birthplace of Frau Blücher

"Grimmenstein" is just about the perfect name for that castle. It's such a perfect name that I thought I was being punked and that it's just a dumb fake castle in a video game for NERDS, but it turns out it's real.

I also think this castle was on the short list for a Led Zeppelin album cover.

"Dracula's Castle" in Romania. But you know, like 20 castles claim to be "Dracula's Castle." Let's just agree it's a castle in Romania.

Puppy love.

Sea otters having a nap.

Some next-level precision bike riding through some serious scenery.

Skier attempting to outrace an avalanche right on his heels decides the difficulty factor isn't quite high enough and so does a backflip off a jump.

Dude drives a boat like he's a henchman in a James Bond movie.

Sunset in Madeira.

I sure don't want to advertise for Red China but damn this is some scenery.

Very neat fountain with a chain of whirlpools, each emptying into the next-lower pool.

Bedtime on the farm.

The fish freaks come out at night.

Speaking of freak fish: a grouper pulls the ol' switcheroo on a shark.

Red panda meets a baby chimp.

Whale and calf.

The Girl With the Dogs grooms a shy dog who needs the comfort of his emotional support rat. Two of those words describe Michael Cohen.

Lion waits by a well, waiting to Seize and Pounce upon animals that come to drink from it. An elephant comes up and says get your candy ass out of here, Susan.

How cute is this goldendoodle? Correct answer: Very cute.

Musical mutt.

A dog loves riding on his horse.

Yeeting the workweek like...

Frenz. Though I think the duck is more into the dog than the dog is into the duck.

The duck is in the frenzone.

I'm laughing my ass off. Aussies are having some solar panel woes. The power companies are now charging through the nose for customers to pump power back into the grid, such that if someone generates more power than they use, they still pay a big power bill.

The solution: government subsidies for big Li-ion battery packs to store excess rather than pump back into grid. So every home would need a huge fire trap.

And then, they're finding that these huge solar panel installations, which have been eating up normal land, have a YUGE heat island effect, much more than predicted.

This is funny about that PVI (photo-voltaic installation) heat island effect. It raises the local temp in the day, and at night (more than even regular urban heat islands).

Well, first you clear out out the local vegetation, which kills the transpiration cooling (water evaporating), which means the ground gets warmer. Then, at night the huge panels block some of the radiative cooling at night.

This was much more than predicted.

Ace is right that there's a huge number of locales in Rumania that claim association with Vlad the Impaler, but that's to gull the tourists.

188 Also discussion of squirrel hunting and eating in the previous threads. As a redneck from birth in NE Mississippi, I can readily attest that there was some serious squirrel hunting that took place well into the 80s, and I doubt t's slackened very much now. The goal is to get a "mess" of squirrels. How many squirrels constitute a mess is debatable - enough to fill a burlap sack was considered a good measuring goal. They made great stews, and, if done right, delicious squirrel and dumplngs.

We did not eat possums, however, but there were some family members who had gotten hooked on them during the Great Depression. One uncle n particular used to rave about how succulent and sweet boiled possums and Arsh Taters were. That was his way of saying "Irish." The man was not a role model. I always wanted to tell him, Unk, you never go full redneck. The exception being if tourists are around, then you play up to their prejudice so that they can go back Northwards and say "Sheila, my God, you won't believe what those people are like. iThat one wanted me to clean squirrels! Me, Sheila, me! He showed me how to use a fish filleting knife to pop out the eyes!

243 Perhaps we're judging Gas Pump Guy wrongly. He could have been an aspirational pioneer in space flight research. Like many great scientists, he experimented first on himself. The "fondling" was actually an effort to generate static electricity that would unite the miracle premium unleaded fuel that would propel him up the gravity well. He probably envisioned a rapid expansion of Man's entry into space as each individual fuels up, lights up, and roars up into the stratosphere. Every man his own astronaut. Robert Heinlein would have written a book about it.

284 Those with long memories may recall one of the earliest of Weird Shit people do published on the then-new internet “Scrotum Self Repair”.

Some nut worked in a machine shop, and used a piece of machinery for self gratification during his lunch hour. His junk got caught in the machinery, and one of the family jewels was “avulsed” as the doc revealed. He found several “dark linear” objects, which turned out to be staples.

A swingline has many purposes, turns out.

285 This Trump thing in the South Bronx is apparently not a rally--it's just a speech (whatever that means.)

I'm very worried about it. Crotona Park is in a very bad neighborhood and cop friends are telling me there are weekly shootouts on nearby Webster Ave. Oy.

Good lord. When I worked for Blue Cross I read many an "interesting" ER report but that takes the cake.

>>Well it looks like the Lopez/Affleck marriage is tits up. Didn't last very long did it.? Some great love story eh?

It looks like they confused marriage for banging, they should probably have stuck to the occasional banging.

That's not how you do it. You just let it lay there, then when someone corrects you, you insist you're right.

So Biden's base. This is like Trump going on CNN to debate Biden. He's playing on Biden's turf.

Trump has his faults but he knows how to sell his brand. He's a natural politician.

304 Tuna, I would be willing to bet “Scrotum Self Repair” is still extant, somewhere, on the internet.

Another good ‘un, not medical related or gross, but entitled “I Want My Two Dollars Back”, about a guy trying to buy a burrito to go and pay for it with a $2 bill.

I laughed so hard I almost pissed myself. He very nearly was arrested, because nobody had ever seen one, and thought it was fake.

For some reason, one of the earliest videos uploaded as I recall, was the Oregon DOT blowing up a beached whale with dynamite. I had a dial up modem and it took about 2 or 3 hours and it still never loaded up. Didn’t see it until years later. The original internet was pretty cool in a lot of ways.
