CNN: Polls Show Americans Don't Care About the Left's Lawfare Campaign Against Trump

They don't have a Plan B. This is what they've got. This is it. This is the only thing they have in the cupboard.

And it's crapping out.

CNN chief national affairs correspondent Jeff Zeleny reports that swing-state voters are showing disdain and fatigue over the ongoing Trump trial, amidst polling data that shows Trump leading Biden in six key states.

Jeff Zeleny revealed that swing-state voters he interviewed feel "disgusted" and "tired" of the Trump trial, suggesting minimal political fallout against Trump so far.

Recent New York Times/Siena College polling indicates Trump is leading Biden in swing states like Nevada, Georgia, and Arizona, with significant margins.

Voters are more concerned with economic issues rather than the trial, with inflation noted as a critical issue affecting voter sentiment.

In a recent commentary, CNN's Jeff Zeleny highlighted a significant disconnect between the media coverage of Donald Trump's ongoing trial and the concerns of voters in battleground states. According to Zeleny, despite exhaustive media focus, the trial has not resonated as a critical issue among these voters. Instead, economic issues, particularly inflation, are at the forefront of voters' concerns as they assess their choices for the upcoming election.

...

The polling also reveals a surprising shift in demographic support, with Trump making gains among Black and Hispanic voters, groups traditionally seen as Democratic strongholds. Biden's lead among these voters has diminished compared to previous elections, further complicating the electoral landscape for Democrats.

Zeleny notes that while the trial garners considerable media attention, the actual impact on voter decision-making may be limited. He suggests that unless the economic concerns are addressed effectively, the trial itself will likely remain a peripheral issue for many voters, overshadowed by more immediate personal and financial impacts.

Video at the link.

I know the public tunes out of the partisan outrage sort of political discourse because we on the right could never get the public very interested in Benghazi. I think the public tends to discount these scandals on the theory that "both sides do it" and both sides exaggerate this stuff.

I think it's similar to when unions and management try to get the public on their side about a labor dispute -- the public says, "I don't care, work it out yourselves, stop trying to involve me."

All the Democrats have offered the public for years and years now is partisan outrage crap -- stuff that Jake Tapper and his fellow hyperpartisans care about intensely, but which everyone else thinks is both a nothingburger and a cheap manipulation by partisan agitators like Tapper.

When the public asks about the economy, Tapper and his fellow Democrats shriek: "But Muh Democracy!"

When the public asks about out-of-control violence and mayhem, Tapper and his fellow Democrats scream, "But Sloppy Daniels!"

When the public asks about the wide-open border and Americans killed by "newcomers," Tapper and his fellow Democrats cry "But his Twitter!!!"

Every time the public asks about a real issue with a tangible impact on their lives, Tapper and his fellow Democrats shovel progressive outrage-bait slop at their faces.

What do you think about having all these Rs show up at the trial and sit behind Trump. Not sure if a NY jury will be impressed or turned off.
I do like that they can then come out and comment when Trump is under a gag order.

That's how you know it's time for St Floyd II: Electric Boogaloo. The usual Dem strategy of turning everything up to 11 so that the message is "vote for us and the anger stops! Vote for Trump and we burn the country down!"

Which is traditionally stupid. Blacks tend to vote monolithically (at least on paper - who knows how much fraud there is, but that doesn't change the final assessment), but "Hispanics" do not. Latinos are not a monolith and never have been. The Dems have treated them like one, but that is a bad strategy. The legals have serious problems with the illegals. The Guatemalans have serious problems with the Salvadorans, etc. Latinos are internally diverse and counting on them to act like a monolith is poor plan.

They do, and partly it is because of what you said. They *are* hyperpartisans and think of everything in those terms, but I think that is only part of the answer.

I think the other part is that they have nothing else. They have only one actual answer to any presented question. The economy? More of the same, only bigger. Crime? More of the same, only bigger. The border? More of the same, only bigger. Major social problems? More of the same only bigger.

"More of the same only bigger" is their *only* position on everything. They're in charge and so can't back-track. They can't be wrong, which means that they simply didn't go too far enough. The *only* message they have besides the tribal Party loyalism is "we're going to keep doing the same things, only more."

So they go with tribal Party loyalism.

The problem with the big steal redux from 2020 is that it depends on a large group of people, paid directly, and unpaid, willing to break the laws enthusiastically in order to carry it off. Then it depends on unified silence (unlike We Did It in 2020) to prop up a disgusting demented old sob in office so the looting can continue.

It also depends on the GOP doing nothing.

Internally, the Deep State is not really unified in 2024 becuz you have the corporate types that are now realizing the China trade is risky and getting riskier for supply lines, the military types worrying already about Joe's destruction of it to the point they cannot fill their recruiting quotas, the foreign policy types that like Israel and hate Iran and the Palis, and economic types that realize the US is about to hit a financial iceberg of debt head-on.

Only the media that runs the Dems is still fully on board and its credibility and wealth is declining faster than Biden's.

Well written.

What amazes me is how sticky Biden's support is. Based on his (regime's) record, he should be trailing by 10 points-- instead of being ahead in MI.

If Biden carries MI*, WI & PA*, Biden wins. Period.

*instinct causes me to doubt that Trump can win PA but lose MI, which is what the RCP averages for those 2 states currently show. As for WI, I'll believe Trump wins there ONLY if & when I actually see it happen.

So. Whenever someone rejoices about Trump's sizable leads in NV, AZ & GA? Doesn't mean a damn thing without Trump winning one of those other swingers.

1) they were going to bloody him up with allowing any and all negative smears against him in court; and endless commercials of "testified in court"
2) they were going to prevent him from responding by unconstitutional gag orders (don't forget, he's still under a gag order from the DC courts)
3) they were going trap him in court, staggering each trial through to the election--preventing him from campaigning and worse, contrasting Biden's no-campaigning.
4) guilty verdicts were timed to drop right at any major momentum; VP pick, convention. Plus endless commercials of "guilty, guilty, guilty!"

Somehow, the American people are seeing that throwing out every law, regulation, policy, procedure and norm to get one man isn't right.

You can get a sense of the hivemind when you read H. Beam Piper's "Naudsonce", a brief short story where human explorers met aliens with a most unusual culture and government. I think it is no longer under copyright and available at project Gutenberg among other places.

Basically becoming one with the hivemind by repeating slogans, chanting, etc. gives the participants emotional lift to their mental state. The participants do it because it makes them feel good and helps them ignore that reality is going to shit around them.

Our governing elites are at that stage---some are beginning to realize what time it is, some are mindlessly coping by clinging harder to Team D and the media complex, and others with less insulation to reality are pondering a change or at least sitting this one out.

I don't think so, Joe...to do this is to defeat the hostage taking strategy that the Dems use against Americans. "Just give us want we want, and the pain will cease! The screaming, the protest, the chaos, the problems of your life" is the hostage takers' stratagem so, by not giving them what they want, ie all their candidates elected, and thus obtaining even a modicum of relief from their oppression, ie an elected Trump and Republican legislation...is never going to further their stratagem. People will start to ignore it or laugh at it after that...and that, they cannot have.

Always easier to do a negative thing than positive as president. Refusing to collect money due is easier to do as prezzie and Scotus really cannot demand it unless they are willing (and they are not) to hold Biden and his junta in jail under contempt of court proceedings.

Scotus has only done contempt proceedings directly once to my recollection and that was a sheriff who defied a Scotus order to protect a prisoner that was lynched due to that failure. Chattanooga I believe and during Teddy's term of office.

It's not a sure thing by any means, but letting Trump win has many upsides that the smarter people in the politburo will surely recognize. It deals with the Biden/Harris problem, they can hang the major economic event that's coming up (there will be one, and probably soon) around his neck, they can loudly assert, "see, there's no cheating and your faith in our institutions is well-founded," etc.

Meaning: Control by the big guys; their donors.

One crypto guy has now pledged to raise $100 million for Trump.

261 To quote (or paraphrase) Admiral Joshua Painter, "Ivan doesn't take a shit without a plan"

The Democrats have plans, and fall-back plans.

Plan A, was, apparently, unending lawfare against Donald Trump. This might be falling apart. Jack Smith was not legally made a special prosecutor, and another appelate judge may disqualify him.

Plan B, was always steal the election, like they did in 2020. RFK Jr. kind of helps them, because although he will allegedly take votes from Joe Biden, a lot of his votes will mysteriously be FOR Joe Biden.
But it has to be close enough that a lot of people will believe that Joe actually was re-elected. That whole line of reasoning may be failing.

Plan C is to kill Donald Trump. I sort of don't expect Donald to be alive by the end of the summer. This is the country we live in now.

I like to rag on the GOP as essentially dead as a political party because after the Cold War ended, its final rationale for existence died as well.

The Dems are in the same shape but rapidly getting worse because it always portrayed itself as a party of the 'outs'. Virtually all of their policy prescriptions date back to the Great Society era as do their heroes and those policies have been proven to be unpopular, failures, and scams in many cases. The only ones still holding the torch of liberalism circa 1974 are ironically the nepots, government workers, the media, upper middle class types with college degrees or higher, and universities.

The rest of their fraying coalitions are feeling the heat from policy failures and mistakes because they do not have the insulation that the above groups do.

271 219 I don't think it's exactly hanging with the cool kids. I think Roberts really REALLY cares about the stature of SCOTUS, and he wants his tenure to reflect the majesty or some other lofty crap like that.

It's a similar mindset to the one you mentioned, and in effect it's the same. He's more concerned with how people he thinks are important perceive the court than with doing the right thing.
Posted by: bonhomme at May 14, 2024 12:44 PM (Odg76)

I get what you are saying. But, as he is inside the Beltway, I have always suspected that he’s really scared of being dropped from the cocktail circuit or being invited to hand out with Those That Matter. And both motivations can be parallel to each other.
Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 at May 14, 2024 12:47 PM (84PaW)

It may not be his preference and it’s certainly not his fault, but Roberts is the Chief Justice at a time of major strife if not internecine war. He can’t cut the baby in half, and he won’t take the high road of enforcing the constitution. That’s the only way he can be perceived as anything other than a failure, but he won’t do it because he will be personally exposed if he does.

273 I think the other part is that they have nothing else. They have only one actual answer to any presented question. The economy? More of the same, only bigger. Crime? More of the same, only bigger. The border? More of the same, only bigger. Major social problems? More of the same only bigger.

This is one of the fascinating things about our current elite.

For as much as they pride themselves on being "sciency" they are the most dogmatic people you will ever meet where there is no data that can prove whatever policies they prefer are not working.

Its only after acquiescence from both sides has been achieved through pleasant norms, ie a marriage between parties has been consummated, that's when the real hostage taking begins!

Not necessarily. Other countries have had similar show trials and ended up losing anyway. The problem for the Dems like it was for the GOP is that the case in NY is about sex between two adults that was not appropriate (assuming something did happen) and far too many people have skeletons in their closet on that one.

The left (and there is a reason) also do not understand evangelism and redemption for sinners because they are essentially like Stan, their hero--they simply double down on all their sins instead of seeking redemption.

Which might not matter. The made the most important alliance of all after the Cold War, when the two parties merged under Democrat dominance and it finished its full takeover of the state.

Do their popular (or unpopular, as the case may be) coalitions matter anymore? This is no longer a republic, it's a Party-controlled oligarchy. Eventually failure will matter (they can't keep the plates spinning) but until then, the breakdown of wider coalitions might not matter much because whoever wins, the Party wins, at least at the national level.

There are exceptions, but they mouth pious platitudes to cover for their venality.

And even if Trump is elected, it really won't fix much. It may just slow down the juggernaut. He can't or won't do enough to fix the outrageous budget deficit.

No, the result will be a maximum political fallout rebounding against the perpetrators of the lawfare and failure to address real issues; in addition to surrendering one war, while creating two others, and destroying our trusted ally in the MidEast.
There are consequences to political meddling in geopolitical events, and the Democrats seem to think they are immune from any type of blowback.
