13 Huh. I wasn't familiar with this incident. Per Wiki:

The Cadaver Synod (also called the Cadaver Trial; Latin: Synodus Horrenda) is the name commonly given to the ecclesiastical trial of Pope Formosus, who had been dead for about seven months, in the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome during January 897. The trial was conducted by Pope Stephen VI, the successor to Formosus' successor, Pope Boniface VI. Stephen had Formosus' corpse exhumed and brought to the papal court for judgment. He accused Formosus of perjury, of having acceded to the papacy illegally, and illegally presiding over more than one diocese at the same time. At the end of the trial, Formosus was pronounced guilty, and his papacy retroactively declared null.

Dare I say this is a hopeful vision for the future?

I've heard stories that animals were occasionally put on trial too. "And I put it to you, Mister Cat. Did you or did you not viciously attack, kill, and devour the plaintiff's favorite canary?"

67 Laurens certainly caught the absurd and frightening aspects of the event with corpse, in papal dress, as if this were an everyday trial. (I imagine the defense was brief and quiet.) The dark colors and dramatic poses set a mood.

It is effective at showing the past and how it might be relevant to the moment. But where would be appropriate to display it?

102 Judge Lloyd U. Nolan Jr., a self-described ‘woke’ magistrate judge on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, ruled that Amonte Moody, 18, be released on bail ahead of his trial.

The 18-year-old allegedly peppered a street with 26 rounds while targeting a car of four people at 2:30am on April 22, with Ring doorbell footage capturing a suspect shooting wildly from the hip with the assault rifle.

Nobody was injured or killed in the shooting spree, which unfolded just over a mile from the US Capitol. Despite the chaos he allegedly caused, Nolan granted Moody pre-trial release and home arrest.

During oral arguments a few weeks ago, it was evident the judges were very skeptical about the judge’s decision to conceal hundreds of texts between FBI handlers and informants from jury. This is not a good sign for DOJ/FBI but a very good one for the targeted men now in supermax prisons.

Whenever you see these 3 thugs together, you know something bad is afoot.

DOJ plans to use the full weight of federal law enforcement to investigate and prosecute whatever they deem as a “threat” to election workers—something that is not a federal issue whatsoever but instead a way to leverage J6-like terrorism vibes to warn Americans not to criticize anyone tied to administering elections.

This will include county election clerks, secretaries of state, and governors who again try to rig/steal the 2024 election. And a “threat,” as we’ve seen with Jan 6 prosecution, can include posting memes critical of Democrats on Facebook.

Aren’t you glad the GOP keeps finding this treachery?

150 I'm concerned about the polling data coming out these days. I would love to write it off as "too early" or "erroneous", but 2016 was not a surprise if you tracked that polling data. The administration and the Democrats have to up their game...big time.

the polls indicate to me that Biden will win nationally by 7+ points.

Which poll is he winning by 7+ points?

Ever since Dobbs, Democrats have outperformed the polls and outperforming the 2020 Biden vote in their districts by averages of 7 or 8 percent. Special elections and off-year election performances have historically been predictive of results in the next presidential election.

Plus, Republican party is in the worst condition of my lifetime, going into a presidential election. There has never been such an election where so many Republicans have declared that they will not vote for the nominee, or will even vote for the Democrat against their own nominee...

I have been preparing myself for a Trump win. Biden numbers just aren't good, there is a lot of protest against his views on Gaza...the young aren't going to turn out for him like they did in 2020.

If you post online or blather in an interview that you're going to leave the country because (insert your whiny emo here), my Marines would show up at your house the next morning, drag your ass onto the plane in just the clothes you're standing up in and would toss you out* when the flight is over the country you chose.

Ungrateful assholes.

Prior to 1964 – the year of the first Mustang’s debut – there was no such thing as a “pony car.” Soon, there were so many of them it was hard to keep track of them. One of them was the Chevy Camaro, which appeared just in time for the 1967 model year. - The District Attorney lowers half of all felonies to misdemeanors yet raised a misdemeanor to a felony in order to indict Trump.
- The lead prosecutor was a DNC consultant and number 3 at Biden’s DOJ before being hired by Bragg to go after Trump.
- The other lead prosecutor donated over $1,000 to Joe Biden and ActBlue in 2020.
- The judge donated to Biden and his daughter is a left-wing activist who is using the trial to raise money for Democrats.
- The lead witness is a convicted perjurer who is selling t-shirts of Trump in jail on TikTok. [andy: that he's allowed to keep on doing during the trial -- gags for thee but not for me!]

204 Saint for the Day:

St. Matthias the Apostle (1st c.) followed Jesus during his entire earthly ministry and was one of his 72 disciples. Matthias was chosen by the 11 Apostles to replace Judas Iscariot after his betrayal of Christ. After Christ's Ascension into heaven, St. Matthias devoted himself to preaching Christianity among the pagans, some of them barbarians and cannibals, all over Judea, Cappadocia, and Ethiopia for over 30 years. Many miracles are ascribed to him as the pagans sought to kill him: that he was unharmed after being forced to drink poison, that he once hid by becoming invisible, and that the earth opened up and swallowed his attackers. St. Matthias also preached the need for mortification of the flesh as an aid to growth in holiness. Eventually, at God's appointed time, he was martyred for the cause of Christ, though there are conflicting traditions as to exactly where and how. St. Matthias is the patron saint of carpenters, tailors, and reformed alcoholics (speaking of San Francisco). His feast day is May 14th.

Two years ago, we had a hail storm that featured 1/4"-1/2" hail and 70 mph gusts. Did a bunch of damage to autos in the neighborhood. My solar was unscathed. On an actuarial basis,, hail storms of that intensity or higher are rare inmost of the country.

Posted by: buddhaha

Baseball-sized hail took out a solar farm in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, on Friday.
The hail shattered most of the panels on the 5.2-megawatt solar project,
sparing an odd panel like missing teeth in a white smile.

How fast can that be replaced? Especially once the powers that be switch everyone over to renewables? Better be replaced by 5pm that day.

It also sheds light on the factors leading to the Cadaver Synod, illustrating that it was not merely a religious proceeding but a culmination of political tensions and conflicts that had been brewing for years. This perspective underscores the interplay between religious authority and secular power during a tumultuous period in medieval European history."

248 Marketing.

Mercedes' new G-Wagon is all electric, but they know you miss the rev of the engine so they put a fake V8 sound in a speaker under the hood

249 if you haven't seen this yet I highly recommend setting aside a few minutes and watch Winton Marshall dunk on Nancy Pelosi at Oxford Union. Smart and articulate guy.

Concur. Pelosi is an outright embarrassment.

250 They should protect the solar panels with overhangs made of discarded wind turbine blades.

Mount the blades sideways so they let the sun in. Rotate the blades 90 degrees to shut if there is rain. Genius!

251 That solar farm they're building off 82 east of Bonham will suffer the same fate, I'm sure. That's right in the severe weather belt off the Red River.

A 5.2 Mega-watt solar farm is going to need one big assed battery bank for storage.

The paradox of so-called, "renewable" energy is that as your reliance on it grows, so too must your reliable energy sources grow.

Or alternatively....

It's all one gigantic scam.

A storage array for that much energy would be prohibitively expensive and would need to be located far enough away so that the day it goes up in smoke, it doesn't wipe out the village.

260 Formosus/a means "beautiful, handsome" in Latin.
Notice the Thurible with incense wafting up into the air.

King Charles exhumed Oliver Cromwell (who died of natural causes) after he came to the Throne, held a trial against him for treason, convicted him, hanged his corpse, and had his head, covered in pitch for weatherproofing, placed on a spike atop the middle of the roofline of Westminster Hall for I think 30 years? Cromwell had ordered Charles I to be beheaded.

Cromwell and such if the Regicides who had died were exhumed and tried for treason after the Stewart Restoration. Those convicted were sentenced to be hanged in irons.
