"Not the World People Are Living In:" James Carville Rejects Biden's Otherwordly Take on the Economy

The economy is withering and shriveling as fast as Joe Biden's dying brain.

Carville is reacting to this disaster-pants Biden interview, in which he insisted the economy had never been better. He explained away voters saying the economy is poor by just saying that "the polls are wrong," and whined that many people hang up the phone before a pollster gets one to do a survey.

Lefties mocked righties for talking about "skewed polls." But now here's the "president" claiming that all polls, all of them, are skewed against him.

Biden just sat there with a slack jaw as Erin Burnett read the actual economic figures to him. As some observed: It's like Biden has been kept in a plastic bubble and this is the first time someone's telling him the real economic data.

Carville says this gaslighting will backfire.

Democratic strategist James Carville criticized President Joe Biden on Thursday over claims that the economy is thriving under his administration.

Job growth may stall in the second half of 2024 as low gross domestic product (GDP) and soaring inflation persist, according to a Monday report by research group The Conference Board. Biden has touted the U.S. economy as booming, but Carville told NewsNation host Chris Cuomo that this is a misguided strategy and he should stop attempting to persuade Americans who are not experiencing what he is claiming.

"I don't think, if people don't feel like they're in a good economy, you can't convince 'em," Carville told Cuomo. "And I think there's a bunch of Ivy League economist academic types that go in and saying, 'sir, this is the best economy we've had since 1969, you have to go out and promote it.' That's not the world people are living in. And at some point, Chris, you know, baseball, you've got to let the ball come to you. You can't charge the ball. And I agree with the critics that this is not the proper messaging.

They then both spun that AKSHUALLY the basic numbers for growth and employment are good, overlooking the fact that the economy was artificially shut down (at Democrat insistence) and all the "growth" and "job gains" are just the very natural consequence of ending the artificial shut-down of the economy.

Oh, and I'm sure you noticed his bullshit claim that inflation under Trump was at 9%.

In fact, it was at... 1.4%.

Even the dirty, traitorous, propaganda unit ABC "News" has to admit that Biden is just lying:

Must be that "stutter" acting up again.

It's probably more subtle than that. I doubt they're lying to Biden, not exactly. But the negative data probably *are* spun very skillfully to make it look good.

Combine that difference - raw vs. spun - with his mental problems (probably hard to follow the thread or understand the point, but able to pick up on the negative themes), and it's surprising that he didn't just shut down.

Biden is too in love with democracy to do anything about it.

The only reasons corporations didn't overdo it for corporate profits under Trump was because they feared his tyranny if they should cross him.

He's not wrong.

Telling a person who looks around at his conditions and thinks, "this sucks and is getting worse" that he's wrong and that everything is awesome will just get one of three responses, depending on the individual:
1. "You're lying. I have eyes."
2. "That's all well and good, but it sucks *here* and for *me* and that's more important than the general case that might be okay."
3. "Where does it not suck? I want to do better, so where are these booms, and I'll go there and do that?"

The first two are common, and no amount of preaching will change it. The third is less common, but you'd better not be lying if you come across that guy because the game is up immediately if you can't answer.

Comparisons against February, 2020 through about June 2021 are pointless and dishonest. Employment, wages, inflation, gas prices, whatever.

All comparisons should be against 2019. This used to be the way things worked. Reconversion didn't compare things to the War years, it compared it to the lead-up to the War. The War was exceptional and queered all the data for comparison. The COVID era is no different.

Think long and hard before fusion surgery as that can end up in an endless cycle additional fusion surgery.

PT to make and keep your back muscles stronger to compensate from damaged joints is a better long term bet. Water therapy in warm water is especially beneficial if you can find a place that does that and water aerobics are useful if the water is warm. If not, water aerobics can be excruciating because of muscle contraction.

IMO part of the Malthusian death-cult nonsense is that city-dwellers extrapolate the population density where they live across the entire planet.

IIRC the whole population of Earth, with Hong Kong(?) levels of crowding wouldn't fill up Texas.

I'm too lazy to look up the actual thing, and maybe it's bullshit, but the Greater Truth is that there is a lot of sparsely-or-not-at-all habitable land out there, as well as some very very densely-packed areas.

True story, in one of India's tiger reserves, there's a shrine of some sort, and people insist on walking to it.

236 Avoid spinal fusion surgery as long as possible, make sure you exhaust every other possible option first. It is not a magic bullet and as whig noted above it will possibly if not likely lead to further fusion surgery down the road. To say nothing of the random nerve damage.

IF your damage is due to age/deterioration not a specific sight trauma, fusion will sign you up for mor fusion.

The Japanese love living here, the houses are big, they can have land, the women get to drive (this was years ago, so maybe they allow women to drive in Japan now). The only reason the go back is they want their kids to grow up being "Japanese".
The Japanese, are, by and large, funny people when taken as individuals. In a group, they are very conforming. And I have come to know a lot of Japanese; my company is owned by the Japanese, now.

No problem. I have lower back lumbar stenosis as well as deteriorating disks in the lumbar, thoracic and cervical areas but natural wear and tear is magnified by psoriatic arthritis which I have been fighting for over a decade now.

Archimedes, fusion is something that happens naturally due to wear and tear over the years but if you do it via surgery--it transfers the stress to adjacent joints which then go through arthritic change in an accelerated rate requiring more fusion which affects additional joints and so on.

Your spine is meant by nature to be flexible. When you induce rigid joints, it requires adjustment by the rest of the spine to compensate for the new dynamic load on it. Bad enough when it happens naturally, worse when you accelerate the process to additional joints.

Depending on the problem, there are some less invasive surgerys and now even artificial disk surgery. All of which still require keeping the back muscles as strong as they can be to substitute for a deteriorating back. PT and its stretching exercises can be good for that as well as some water therapy.

There's a weird quasi-symmetry with at least one of Trump's impeachenings-- withholding Congressionally-approved aid to a foreign nation.

But, yeah-- This? This is where you make your feeble, flaccid lip-service stand?

When I moved to Texas, requesting spinal fusion for back pain was normal operating procedure. It was nothing more than a money grab. There was nothing I could do about it because denials being upheld were very rare. It’s changed a bit after some reform but not much.

316 Does fusion eliminates the flex needed by the back, causing damage?
Posted by: davidt

It actually straightens the back, which is unnatural. Your back has kind of an S-curve to it to better distribute the weight. My cousin had a series of spinal fusion surgeries, and he was in constant pain. He had radical spinal surgery, where the surgeon put in two S-curved steel rods, attached to key vertabrae. It took him months to heal, and he had to learn to walk again. But that was years ago, and now he feels normal and has little pain now.
Back damage and back pain are no joke and can be crippling, which is news to no one here who has had back problems.

Posted by: davidt

It transfers stress to the flexible spinal joints above and below the fused area. Strong back muscles can compensate somewhat for the problem but the spine was designed to work as a flexible unit and putting an immobile section into it via fusion can cause accelerated wear. Depends on weight, the lifestyle that one leads including occupation, prior tendencies to all sorts of abnormal issues like bone spur growth, inflammatory arthritis, nerve impingement, and so on. There are also some locations in the spine that are far worse than others for fusion to occur either naturally or via surgery.

For someone like me who's known how to use the constitutional powers of the House from Day 1 about how to completely dismantle the administrative state, all of Congressional activity amounts to little more than failure theater mixed with graft.

So, this newest batch of failure theater does nothing for me emotionally. I admire the mirror___ of the Trump impeachment, but that's about it. It's still failure theater.

If Republicans were serious, we would have known 2 years ago when they refused all CRs and only passed 1990-level budgets for a core set of administrative agencies. But that didn't happen. Because they're not serious. They haven't been serious for a very, very long time. The 1930s, maybe?

David Mayhew, in his Electoral Connection book claims (and is supported by vast empirical evidence) that you can figure out how a Congress critter acts by simply applying that they all want to win their elections. Cutting spending is less popular than borrowing especially for the Dems and blocs of voters depending on that spending. Raising taxes is less popular than borrowing especially for the GOP due to its donors.

Since the Dems have absorbed a lot of the wealthy in its ranks, its ardor for raising taxes has cooled but replaced by insatiable regulation of everything under the sun. That permits an out for the oligarchs to be excluded behind closed doors. So the Dem coalition is regulate, spend, tax the plebes they don't like, and borrow.

The GOP is not so complicated--it simply spends and borrows and cuts taxes for its donors if it can.
