  • Speaking of laptops, the old new laptop - the one I bought two years ago that has been waiting all this time to be set up - has a working Windows license again.

And it runs my modded Minecraft instance at 60fps with shaders enabled.

It could probably do more but it's only a 60fps screen.

  • Asus leaked the part number and specs of AMD's upcoming Strix Point laptop chips. (AnandTech)

Twelve cores - four Zen 5 and eight Zen 5c, which are identical but run at clock speeds about 25% lower, 36MB cache, a top speed of 5.1GHz on the main cores, and 77 TOPS (trillion operations per second) of AI thingy.

That's double the AI thingy of Apple's M4, which has a 38 TOPS thingy.

  • China's latest GPU beats the best chips from AMD. (Tom's Hardware)

That is, the best chips from AMD from 2008.

It's roughly equivalent to a Radeon 4850. I had one of those. Passive cooler. Played Mass Effect and Dragon Age on it.

It definitely slowed down in big combat scenes but it was mostly okay.

  • Micron's new LPCAMM2 memory modules are now available for purchase. (WCCFTech)

    In one speed, LPDDR5X-7500.

$175 for 32GB and $330 for 64GB. Not cheap but 80% cheaper than Apple and even more cheaper than replacing your whole computer because the RAM is soldered in place not that I'm bitter about that right now.

  • An OpenAI executive says that ChatGPT will be "laughably bad" in twelve months. (Business Insider)

Hey, give yourself some credit. It's laughably bad right now.

At this point, I really don't have much. The flirtation with Type II diabetes seems to be over thanks to my change in diet; my BP is under control with an inexpensive med. That's why I wonder if an Advantage, even one with a small monthly premium, might not be better for me.

We'll see between now and October, anyway.

39 The great Steven Hayward is on a Javier Milei kick, and quoting extensively from a speech the Argentine President gave in LA last weekend. This is the main theme:

“The West is in danger. It is in danger because its leaders long ago moved away from the ideas of freedom. Ideas that made the West the most important civilizational achievement in the history of mankind. And instead of defending the ideas that generated the prosperity that everyone here enjoys, they listen to siren songs that lead inexorably to socialism, and consequently to poverty.

Disney has done a great job of bearing that genuine enthusiasm out of the properties they own.

93 The jury is going to make their judgement based on:
He raped Caroll, he raped Stormy. We need to put him behind bars, he is guilty as charged.

94 How can there be a prequel to Bladerunner if it is called 2099?

96 They are going to convict Trump of this tax thing while insinuating that he is guilty of raping Stormy.
Posted by: Cat Ass Trophy at May 08, 2024 06:42 AM (P9xGM)
=============
As near as I can tell, there is no tax-related accusation. No one says his taxes would change once they sort out this case. The accusation is his lawyers got Stormy to sign an NDA, for which she was paid (as is required) and then the Trump Organization was billed by the law firm for reimbursement. Trump Organization accounted for the subsequent payment as "legal expense". NYS says they should have called it something else, but hasn't said what or even why it matters.

97 Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes.

Sunny here at Stately Poppins Manor, but rain is coming. Would still rather be outside than inside working.

Motorcycle still for sale, for anyone in the southern NH / northeast MA area: 2009 H-D sportster, 18K miles, $5000 or best offer.

Haven't spoken to Her Majesty yet this morning. I hope she had a comfortable night and that they can discharge her today. Although I also get the impression that the infection was not limited to just the knee but also got into her bloodstream.

I think there's something interesting about registering to vote. If you are male (which it looks like 90% of the border jumpers are) you can not register to vote unless you have signed up with Selective Service.

Disney Japan thinks anime needs to change to appeal to a wider global audience.

Listen Disney, just STFU and die already. Anime is doing just fine as is.

103 @78

>>the entire world would like to know what category to put legal expenses into, if not "legal expense".

The case is complete and utter f**king nonsense and everyone from the judge to the prosecutor should be thrown from office, barred, disbarred and sanctioned.

But they'll probably get massive book deals and higher office for the efforts.

113 I mentioned ythis on the comments recently. This is why idiots like Karine can claim with a straight face, well, straightish face, that "crime under Biden is down."

"In 2022, the Biden regime made it no longer "mandatory" to report crime stats to the FBI. The results was over 1/3 (over 6000 precincts) didn't report any crimes to the FBI. Cities that hardly reported any crime stats to the FBI include NYC, Baltimore, Washington DC, Miami and a ton of entire huge cities. Of course, this was done by the Democrats to hide their soaring crime numbers and easily fool low IQ sheep into believing easily provable hogwash."

Lies, damned Lord, and statistics. You juke the stats, they'll say whatever you want then to say.
