I was surprised to learn Carlsen painted in the late 1800s and early 1900s. This has the power of the Low Country still lifes I enjoy so much.

Did a quick look at Carlsen's other works, especially the still lifes. They are wonderful. I need to find out more about him.

Pro tip:

Don't buy from the physical location. Buy from Amazon. It's somehow cheaper to order a 10lb pot or pan or wok online and have it shipped to you than it is to walk into the store literally next door to the factory where it's made.

I don't think that's how it's supposed to work, guys. All I can figure is they're playing off of that old canard and people are looking for souvenir-type purchases.

Needless to say it irritated me when I compared prices. I hate that I didn't think to ask the clerk if they'd match the Amazon price.

223 Former House Speaker Paul Ryan says he's not voting for Trump : '“Character is too important for me. [The presidency is a job that requires the kind of character [Trump] doesn’t have.”

“Democracy is being tested in two very specific ways. One within, with our polarization eating each other alive. The second one is from [the outside], from authoritarian regimes who are basically saying they got the mojo, they can make the decisions faster, they can beat democracy.”

Given that Ryan thinks Character is so important, my guess he will think of it as a duty and vote for someone. Who??? He also has strong feelings for democracy --and our allies. So maybe Biden. I somehow do not think he would waste his vote on a third party or write-in.

From the article: "The former House speaker told Yahoo Finance on Tuesday that he doesn't plan to vote for the former president, adding he would be writing in a Republican candidate instead."

It's still one less vote for Trump in Wisconsin -- which I consider the most important thing since WI is predicted to be close.

Possibly her most dramatic mainstream role was as Cathy, the sociopathic, parent-murdering beauty in the 1981 TV miniseries version of Steinbeck's East of Eden. To this day when I reread those scenes I think of Jane in the role, even though Cathy is described as a blonde.

The 2:30 theatrical cut is better than the 3:00 directors cut. The characters are more likeable in a PG-rated setting, and the story moves quicker.

249 The odd thing is that I never saw the East of Eden miniseries, just glimpsed the TV Guide ads for it and the "Special Focus" or whatever they called it on the production. Doesn't matter. Jane Seymour IS Cathy the "monster."

In the Fifties film, which focuses too much on that James Dean guy, Jo Van Fleet plays the older, much shopworn Cathy, now called Kate, the town madam. She is very good. But the Elia Kazan movie relates only a sliver of the book.
