The modern fascistic American corporation is perfectly content to shove crap products nobody wants down our throats.
Except...eventually consumers say...NO! Plant-based meat sales down in US as customers dislike taste, price: reportData showed that while those who bought plant-based substitutes in previous years continued to do so, companies failed to entice new customers. According to GFI, unit sales were down 9 percent in 2023 while dollar sales fell by 2 percent. As a result, the plant-based food market in the US went from being worth $8.2 billion the year before to $8.1 billion.
Well, actually, it's clear that existing customers are leaving too! Factor in inflation, and it's even uglier than at first glance. This pattern holds true with all sorts of businesses, including the sacrament of The Sustainable Organic Church of The Carbon Apocalypse...the electric vehicle. The business plan is embarrassingly simplistic, and consumers aren't going along with it. But look at other businesses that push crap we don't want. Lingerie for morbidly obese women? Shaving cream for transsexuals? mRNA-based vaccines that are a health crisis in waiting? Lesbian Studies degrees from 3rd tier colleges? These products are going the way of the Dodo, and it couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of lickspittle wanna-be fascists.

I avoid any product advertised as it usually means it's overpriced and I can find a store brand or lesser known item which works or tastes better.

The problem is when this is mirrored in city/state/federal projects.
Just read an article in a local free paper about a project to eliminate one of the two lanes (in both directions) of a major east-west street: " The --- Lane Reduction Study. . . to determine the impact of the lane reduction and how best repurpose that lane space to enhance the safety of all users. This project began in 2018 with analysis and design, and construction is set to occur in 2024-2025."
The kicker? There's nothing about what these lanes will be used for -- in the name of "eliminating congestion on our roadways."
6 years of analysis and they can't even tell us what they've dreamed up to use that roadway space for, despite the city growing a lot in those same years, thus having to handle *increased* traffic.
This is insanity, the endless takeover of city streets for bike lanes, as if they will magically get us all to commute by bike because traffic suuuucks so hard.

Another local folly for "climate change" is the zoning for high density housing with no parking requirement in the construction. As if people will move into these high-rises and magically give up their cars?
No, this puts more cars on the city streets -- the same city streets where they are eliminating lanes and replacing them with bike lanes, thus eliminating on-street parking, too.
It's bad enough for the residents of these apartments/condos, but then factor in service vehicles - anything form door dash, plumbers, caregivers for the unwell/homebound, etc..
We can't count on the city hurting the same way a business can via lost revenue. We'll be feeling the sting of these ridiculous "green" projects.

A simple explanation of our economy over the last fifty years is that advances in technology and global supply chain outsourcing have made making things much more efficient, which should have lowered prices substantially for all sorts of things, but this deflationary benefit was eaten up by growth in government (5 to 20% of jobs), bloated big company payrolls, and government handouts.
People with "Mike Rowe" jobs saw little or no benefit from this and are actually net losers.
And there's a high correlation between the split between those who've benefited and those who have not, to the increasing political divide between MAGA America and those in the Borg.

You know what *is* "plant-based meat" with far fewer steps? Meat. Animals eat low-quality and nutrient-poor vegetation and convert it into high-quality and nutrient-rich protein. Livestock are excellent chemical conversion plants.

A driver died after crashing a car into the exterior gate of the White House late Saturday, the US Secret Service said.

They eliminated a traffic lane and put in a bike lane here in N.O suburb on a busy street. It was ridiculous, a bike lane near the curb, a three foot standoff to a parking lane in what used to be a traffic lane. People rebelled and they had to undo the whole thing.

Biden can't hide in the basement and have the media create a record for him this election. We are all living his record and nobody is happy. Biden is the least popular president in modern polling history. That takes some doing.

Henry Cuellar, a Democrat from Texas, accepted around $600,000 in exchange for advancing the interests of the bank and the former Soviet Republic over seven years through at least November 2021, according to the indictment.
“In exchange for the bribes paid by the Azerbaijani oil and gas company, Congressman Cuellar allegedly agreed to use his office to influence US foreign policy in favor of Azerbaijan” the Department of Justice (DOJ) said in a statement.
“In exchange for the bribes paid by the Mexican bank, Congressman Cuellar allegedly agreed to influence legislative activity and to advise and pressure high-ranking US executive branch officials regarding measures beneficial to the bank.”

There are no permanent principles for the left. Everything is situational. I know a woman who was really into that stuff, and I kept pointing out that instead of eating some weird factor-made facsimile of meat, she could just eat actual meat that came from a local farm.

A simple explanation of our economy over the last fifty years is that advances in technology and global supply chain outsourcing have made making things much more efficient, which should have lowered prices substantially for all sorts of things, but this deflationary benefit was eaten up by growth in government (5 to 20% of jobs), bloated big company payrolls, and government handouts.

A lot of this is merely because they’re kept cold before and after purchase. I’m not going to argue that supermarket strawberries and tomatoes are as good as the home-grown ones from my mom’s garden. But their flavor does improve dramatically when brought to room temperature before eating.

Yes, but the new bioengineered stuff is not the same as selective breeding. The GMO stuff can be safer, imo, but I don't really comprehend all that gene splicing stuff very well.
The soybeans I'm planting this year can be sprayed with RoundUp, 2-4D, and another chemical (gluflosinate) for the old Liberty Link seeds. Supposedly using different sprays prevents breeding resistance.

The big appeal is that if it's cooked a certain way the texture is very similar to pulled pork, and with the right hispanic seasonings and other stuffings you can make vegetarian tacos that can easily pass as pork.
I pointed out to my wife that I would try that but I bet if you could find the jackroot in a grocery store it would be at or near the price of the pork, so unless it's a religious or health issue, why would I spend the extra money?

My understanding is that shelf space is a very contentious thing, a subject of constant negotiation. It is likely that the mega-corp that owns the vegan stuff owns other stuff, and requires both to be carried in a certain way.
Part of the pain for Bud Light was that the boycott hit during the period where shelf space is allocated, and once you lose that, it's hard to get it back.

Just read an article in a local free paper about a project to eliminate one of the two lanes (in both directions) of a major east-west street: " The --- Lane Reduction Study. . . to determine the impact of the lane reduction and how best repurpose that lane space to enhance the safety of all users.
The has been talk about reducing the number of lanes from four to two on the major artery that connects our neighborhood to the rest of this area.
For bicycle lanes. Of course.
We are anticipating (and participating) in major blowback if the matter comes to public hearings.

One note. CORPORATIONS aren't pushing this nonsense. The executives at these corporations are doing it.
And they're doing it because of the 'contract' nonsense that's become the norm in corporate America.
The days of somebody working 30 years starting in the mailroom to become the CEO are over.
Now, they 'contract' them out for just a handful of years at at time, and they have zero loyalty to the corporation. Why would they? Sure, there are some performance incentives in their contracts, but by and large their personal pay is unaffected by the actual performance of the company they theoretically manage.
So these woke contract executives simply DO NOT CARE if the company makes money or not. They get their golden parachute and full contract money regardless of whether the company craters.
They push woke nonsense they know is going to cost the company huge amounts of money, but they don't care. They think its fine that the company they have no loyalty to loses money.
When you understand that, you understand why they engage in this nonsense.

This is huge, a turning point — the policy, functionally an ideological weed-out tool, is widely unpopular in academia, but MIT is the first elite private institution to pull the plug.

They are banning use of DEI statements. They are not banning DEI practices for hiring and promotions. Just like everything else with the Marxist left, they never stop their radical practices, they simply stop being open and explicit about them.
i.e. the NFL. They are just as radical now in support of Black-Lives-Matter radical, racist activist and terrorist organizations now as they were during 2020. But they just have stopped the kneeling and the explicit BLM promotion. Instead, they are "just" contributing billions of dollars to radical activist BLM organizations.
Same thing with James O'Keefe when he exposed ACORN over a decade ago. They didn't shut down ACORN, they simply rebranded it and kept going. Same thing with CRT in schools. They still teach it in every subject, they just don't have courses entitled CRT anymore.

Michigan got swept blue because the University of Michigan Health System said that without unfettered abortion (which was on the ballot), they would shut down their OBGYN clinic. Hard to overcome that. I guess there were shenanigans elsewhere, as usual.

They've put out a suggestion for downtown and making some roads one way to ease congestion. IIRC they've been talking about this for a few years but no action yet.
