Vagina Rock
Sedona, AZ
by desert_badger

High above the Amalfi Coast.

Shred the gnar, brah.

A cigarette break in Antarctica.

Destroy smarter, not harder.

You must gather eight pieces of tuna, and I will give you the enchanted sword.

Nice hike.

Supercell over France.

Trying on a new Lightning Suit.

Now a duet!

Well, I got my weather station (Miley's birfday present to me) mounted permanently this afternoon. 7' high, and it's good to go. Got it operational just in time to catch a little shower we had this afternoon.

Tipping bucket gauge agreed with my own pretty well, although my own gauge doesn't have the resolution for any fine adjustment. You'd need one of those high precision types (which are fairly large) which can read in .01" increments.

You have lightning paths in aircraft. It gets really important for composite structures that require imbedded conductive mesh which causes secondary design issues with lots of things like graphite, copper, and aluminum not playing nice with each other chemically. Lots of planning goes into isolating dissimilar metalics but ensuring a common bonded path through the structure.

All for lightning to decide occasionally, "nah I'm going this way" and you get a panel blow out. But if you design well it's at most a single redundant panel and lightning mostly followed your plan.

I've seen repair approvals for those occasions where it deviates. Composite is the worst where you get explosive delamination. This happens more in "feathers&edges" where there isn't as much structural concern and you are more likely to have composites. But you are right, with good conductive paths you greatly increase your survivability.

I remember reading about aircraft lightening protection. They are designed and tested against the typical cloud to cloud and cloud to ground lightning.

But there are the positive stroke events (comes from the top of a cloud usually, and travels laterally for quite a distance). Those things can pack a current and energy punch much higher than normal lighting strikes.

I believe they decided that some unexplained aircraft crashes were likely caused by those positive stroke events.

138 Years ago, a minor league hockey game in my city ended up in an epic fight between players and fans in the stands. A player was in the penalty box when a woman dumped her soda on him. Players actually went up into the stands in their skates and with their hockey sticks. Hilarity ensued. Players were fined, and a woman went to the ER with a broken arm. So, I went to a game the following week. When we entered the arena, there was a cop at every aisle, and announcements were being made that anyone who acted up would be thrown out. Ticket sales went up.

193 Any other ladies watching the arrivals at the Met Gala? I'm LMAO. Some of the outfits look like they've been rented from a Halloween costume shop. There are some lovely gowns and ladies. Some lovely gowns ruined by tattoos on the ladies wearing them. Meg Ryan has pumped her lips up so much she looks like a beaver when she smiles. Some of the straight guys managing to maintain their dignity. Others looking gayer than the gay guys. Penelope Cruz looked beautiful. Pamela Anderson, surprisingly, looks quite nice and understated.

Yes!! While stationed in the UK. The first time, I was drunk. Don't remember much. The second time, I was still drunk but I remember it. There is a flow to it and though the local English fans tried their best to explain it, I still didn't get it. So, I got drunker. Just local villages playing each other. Nothing major. It was a blast!

205 I've been to one Avalanche game, and a half dozen Colorado Eagles (a really strong minor league club that has won several titles). Nothing beats live hockey.

Been to one CO Eagles game while passing through the area. It was Veterans Day, so I got a couple free t-shirts that we still wear occasionally.

Live hockey is great.

Sadly, gotta give the Bruins the edge so far.

The irony about pads/no pads is that it doesn't make much difference WRT injury. In sports where pads are required, the padded simply up their game which is to say they hit harder than they would without the protection. So the more protection, the more intense the contact.

It's almost like communication. The more distant and insular the shooter is to the target, the more intense the assault. Take away the insulation and behavior regulates itself down.

Pain is the true regulator, not padding.

However, certain sports need padding, like hockey (80mph flying pucks).

Something that has become common is for one bank to be soldered in but one slot to be available for upgrade. It might not be that way but a quick search should let you know. I've put new RAM in all of mine over the last 10 years at least and it's a piece of cake. Watch youtube clips of the shell removal and get some credit cards to help pop the plastic apart.

True. 2005 we had a tornado somewhere nearby resulting in high winds and lots of felled tree limbs. I went to K-Mart nearby and they were cleaned out except for electric ones, and not many at that. I knew/know nothing about chainsaws. In Africa it is not standard garage tooling, we use pangas (machete to you). More manly! (LOL). Anyway I figured bigger is better for big logs so bought the largest for $100. I have never taken it out of its box. Frankly I'm scared of that thing.

This video from ten years ago, and even though it was before Trump announced he was running, is extremely insightful with respect to understanding TDS.

Maybe it's less about Trump. Maybe some people just have latent Derangement Syndrome that is going to come out eventually.

People like Rob Reiner, Stephen King, Robert De Niro and many others can be so successful, and yet when it comes to discussing Trump, they express themselves like toddlers. It's one thing to hate Trump, it's another thing to lose control of yourself while talking about him.

Ben Affleck may not be a genius, but he is obviously educated and successful. Yet in this clip he can hardly speak. It's embarrassing to watch. He is overcome with anger, he has stopped listening, and he has resorted to yelling "Racist!" He is acting like a dumbed down version of the women on The View. A switch has been flipped in him and it's the same switch Trump has flipped in many people.

Sam Harris (before his mental breakdown) sounded reasonable and yet now he talks as crazy or worse than Affleck does in this video. Like him or not, you have to hand it to Bill Maher, he is at least emotionally stable.

Pretty much all of the large Class 8 trucks, draw from the same pool of component manufacturers. Engines from Cat, Cummins and Detroit, Spicer differentials, and etc. etc. for steering boxes, transmissions and on and on. IRRC though, Mack does make more of it's own engines and more gear, deeper into the truck.

The big "VS." 'tween the Petes, KWs, Frieghtliners, Internationals and such, is the design and quality of execution of the bodywork, the interior layouts, and how easy (or NOT easy) they make it to get deep into the guts of the thing, in order to service every part and electrical connection.

"Road Feel" for the drivers, matters too, I'd imagine!

TRUMP: BIDEN ADMIN IS THE GESTAPO

Democratic Rep. Raskin:

"Every accusation (by Trump) is a confession.

We have never had presidential candidates, much less presidents, talk like that before.

There's always been a very strong degree of civility at that level.

And so it telegraphs some very dark intentions on his part."

358 Moron Robbie, I have a14" homelite old lady chainsaw. I couldn't pull hard enough to start the 18 in stilh.
Posted by: Ben Had

Nothing wrong with a 14", and I'd definitely rather use it all day over the 18. But these are maybe 4 to 6 inches, and all battery powered. Push the button and away they go.

They look like they'd be really useful, but I wonder how many people have gotten hurt with them. I know you don't have to have the strength required for loppers, but still.

359 My first truck was a Freightshaker cab over with a 9 speed and a 36" sleeper. Probably a 1960s or 70s model. Poole trucking out of Evergreen AL. Ran like a striped assed ape.

361 FWIW i bought a Craftsman 60V battery powered chainsaw on clearance for $60 or $80 or so years ago and it has been fantastic for quick jobs around the house. If I've got to work all day at the property or there's a snowfall or I'm cutting firewood or the like I'll use the gas, but I have no problem grabbing that Craftsman for something easy. Plus it keeps the hours off of the good stuff.

362 Moron Robbie: "I didn't know him personally but I'm aware of an old guy that cut his leg and bled out. No one had any idea until they found him much later."

How awful. I've never operated a chainsaw alone, but I'll have to add that rule for myself. To wit: Always have someone else present to dial 911/render first aid.

Firearms, chainsaws, and electricity: essential tools that deserve every respect.

I was looking at those recently to trim some deadwood. I'm a bit concerned how I'm going to retrieve it when it gets pinched in a limb 15 feet up in the canopy. Maybe I need two.

The real test of manhood is do you know where your 10mm sockets are.
I have one drawer in my wrench box dedicated to 8 and 10mm sockets. Hours of work time has been gained since I did that.
