Today was a day of finishing projects - Master BR painting, done! All stuff cleaned and drop cloths put away. Finished hanging a new screen door in the garage. Didn't even need to buy hardware for it - retrieved everything from my dozens of coffee can inventory saved for just this eventuality. Ran a short run of 14-2 to a new box in prep for hanging more LEDs in the garage.
It was a good day.

I don’t want to hear about Bill Clinton’s “legendary” political skills anymore (and thus derivatively about the skills of Clinton War Room runners James Carville and George Stephanopoulos).
Clinton needed Ross Perot running as a spoiler third candidate to beat even Bush 41, who shot himself in the foot by promising not to raise taxes and doing it anyway.
And here’s the more important point — if Bill Clinton were facing four criminal indictments: 1) a state one for raping Juanita Broaddrick; 2) a federal one for Whitewater; 3) another federal one for perjury for lying in a deposition re Paula Jones and Monica Lewinsky; and 4) another state one for “Troopergate,” Clinton would never have emerged as the Democrat nominee or re-nominee for President. He would have been discarded by voters and by Democrat kingmakers faster than a dirty bubblegum wrapper.

NY Dem Who Voted For Law Meant to Ensnare President Trump Now Says Law is Unconstitutional After Rape Suit Against Him
When Democrat politicians in New York passed the Adult Survivors Act to punish Donald Trump and provide the ability for E. Jean Carroll to go after Trump 30 years later, their Trump Derangement Syndrome blinded them to how it might impact them.
The now-expired act allowed alleged victims to file civil lawsuits against their accused attackers within a specific window, even if the state’s statute of limitations had run out on their claims.
In November, The Gateway Pundit reported on allegations of sexual assault against embattled New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) stemming from an incident in 1993.
Now, Kevin Parker, a Democrat state senator representing Brooklyn, is calling the Adult Survivors Act unconstitutional, and yet he voted for it.
The accusation against him occurred just before the law expired and stems from an incident in 2004.
The New York Post reports:
The state senator, along with every other member of the state Senate, had voted for the legislation in 2021.

Parker even touted his support of the law in a statement in which he denied the rape charges against him shortly after they were levied in November.
“I voted in favor of the [Adult Survivors Act] to ensure all New Yorkers can seek justice and be heard,” Parker wrote of the legislation, which was also passed by the assembly, signed into law by Hochul in May 2022 and expired in November 2023.
“These allegations are absolutely untrue. My work and advocacy will continue,” Parker said.
Olga Jean-Baptiste alleges that when she was working with Parker on relief efforts for Haiti in 2004, he grabbed her by the wrists and forcibly raped her at her home.
Parker’s behavior has caused concerns in the past. In 2018, he tweeted to a GOP staffer to “Kill yourself.”
Candice Giove, who was the New York State Senate Majority’s deputy communications director, tweeted about Parker abusing his position after discovering that a placard found in a car parked in a bike lane belonged to Senator Parker. However, the license plate number on the placard did not match the vehicle.

Tomorrow will be good, I remembered to put my overnight oats in the fridge, so already off to a great start! I made banana bread oats. Oats (obviously), chia seeds, a few freeze dried bananas because I hate the texture of normal ones, a handful of walnuts and a few Pascha 85% cacao chips, unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Voila! Today begins the first full week of retirement.
This weekend we pulled the travel trailer we bought new last year and haven't used yet out of storage. On Friday I hooked it up to the house electric and filled the fresh water tank. I checked all the major systems for functionality including AC, heater, hot water, refrigerator, stove, plumbing, shower and toilet, and most importantly, the TV.
Saturday we took it to Huntington State Beach for the day and opened the slide and basically just hung out with some friends who are more experienced campers than us. We enjoyed a first meal in the camper (Jersey Mike's subs). Before we left we were able to use the dump station to check out that system too.
Sunday I installed upgraded locks on the two doors then we took it back to the storage place. I'm pretty comfortable pulling it even on L. A. freeways.
We're planning on going up the coast in a few weeks with our friends on our inaugural camp trip.

Sometimes one has to let a critter go.
I had a very old dog years ago (16 yo with cancer). She knew she was going, and was looking for a place to die.
My (late) husband took her out and ended her suffering.
Never again.
Now when I have a dog suffering, I have a vet who comes to my house and peacefully guides my dog over the Rainbow Bridge.
At least they're home with their people...it feels better for the critter and those who love them.
Just my 2 cents....

Turns out a tornado took down trees and took roofs off houses a couple of blocks away. One of the streets I normally use was closed off for more than a week. I didn't even lose electricity. I dug up clay this weekend. I am trying to see if I can throw pots with it, or possibly just flower pots.
when I got through wet processing one batch I discovered that it had left a tiny bit of quartz and feldspar grit in the bucket I was mixitng itin, which is pretty good for a spot that is a good 100 miles away from the nearest quartz deposit and a good 100 feet above the level of the river.
I am thinking it is ether deposited from the lake Missoula flooding, or I contaminated it somehow.
I will dig another batch to check.

Sir William Herschel first observed Uranus on March 13, 1781. He thought he had found a comment. He officially reported it on April 26th. He notified the Astronomer Royal, Nevil Maskelyne (he was the first to calculate the mass of the Erf from astronomical observations).
Maskelyne replied and said it didn't look like a comet to him, and it was maybe a new planet. By 1783, it was officially classified as a new planet of the solar system.

But we did get a bunch of pea-sized hail this afternoon, just as I drove home from the store. Then, at home, had to sit in the car for a few minutes until it let up & I could get out without getting pelted and soaked.
Temp dropped about 15 degrees in just a few minutes.

Uranus had been seen before, as far back as Hipparchus most likely. They thought it was a star.
It was most definitely sighted in 1690, and catalogued as star, "34 Tauri", by John Flamsteed, the first Astronomer Royal.
The position of Astronomer Royal is currently held by Sheila Jackson Lee, of course.

I put a tiny pinch of salt in the cats' water bowl, they seem to like it better than straight tap water.

what I have is a mix of yellow and blue clay, it is an area that has slid a couple of times and there had been erosion. I know from digging post holes in the area there are a couple of banks of pure blue clay down a couple of feet, but it has grown up a bit since I was in high school and I can't find the spots again.
I have open pit fired some tiles from the raw clay and it comes out an orangy red, and it is very fragile. I am trying to get the roots and stuff out of it so I can maybe make something better.
I may just have drilling mud, though.

Then he proceeded to pull about every bone headed thing he could do. When they were hit... his Radioman was not on his station, and 4 out of 9 of his crew were asleep... which is why when Japanese destroyers were spotted, they never got the radio sent warning.
He had also REMOVED his lifeboat, to TIE a 37 mm cannon to his bow... which is one reason the 'rescue' had to be so heroic.
He should not have been decorated for that debacle, he should have been court martialed.

All the PT boat crews were expendable. The boats had 4 torpedoes, 4 MGs, not a piece of armor, and the engines couldn't be run at full capacity most times because raising a wake gave the IJN gunners an aiming point. JFK made PT-109 a bit more expendable by trying to be a nice & popular commander by having the cabin crew enjoy the night breeze up top instead of being at their proper stations when the IJN DD suddenly showed up.

Late war Elco 80ft boats would get even more aggressively armed. They would still sport the twin .50s along with a single barrel Bofors 40mm aft and sometimes even one mounted forward. The heavy steel tubes for the early torpedoes would be deleted and simple light weight launchers for the Mk XIII torpedo would be fitted.
That is the official load out for the Elcos and to some extent the 78ft Higgins, in the war zones even more armament would be fitted. Additional 20mms or added machine guns. Plus the depth charges. And in the MTO they even fitted small rocket launchers to PT boats but things got dicey in rough water with those after the arming pins got pulled.

I'm having more fun that the proverbial barrel full of monkeys with this weather station. Had another little burst of rain, accumulated .02" more for a total of 0.19" since midnight, "event total" of .095".
I've got the barometer set pretty well, I think. The relative(altimeter) offset of the absolute (station) pressure reading. I'm good on that to within .01" (about 10' of altitude).
I set it by looking up a pressure/altitude table using the "standard atmosphere" temp lapse rates and all that. It was within .01" of the all the surrounding airports.
I notice the barometers on the personal weather stations around here and everywhere are all over the place. Nobody bothers to try to get that right. Some don't even attempt and it's obvious they are reporting unadjusted absolute pressures, and others use some offset from lord knows where. Timing is critical if you're using local airport values.

I hate it, but I'm reconsidering putting in my retirement papers this month and waiting until a little later in the summer. A case of hesitating in the doorway of the plane before a parachute jump, I know. And I will lose that vacation hours money; but two more working months will make it up, though at the cost of two more months of my life commuting.

Pickles. That's how they cooked it in his family. I just grit my teeth and say, remember, he's a decent guy and he treats my niece really well, and hope somebody else makes dressing next time around.

Keep in mind a few months is a big deal when you're relocating that far. It took me about 5 months to relocate from Washington State to New Mexico. That time included searching for a place to buy, buying the place and all the related tasks that go with that, hiring a moving company, and finally making the move. When you move north you start running into the reality that you have a real winter which makes moving less desirable.
Pulling the trigger on retiring and relocating is a highly personal decision, but it is also a logistics issue and that shouldn't get lost in the decision-making process.

Yeah, that's the thing: I haven't even been to Indiana yet and seen it on the ground, so to speak. If I hold off, maybe use a little vacation time to drive up there this summer (I dread going anywhere in summer, though), I can make a better decision.

I was under the impression you had already been to Indiana. That's kind of a prerequisite. Doing doing those relocation visits are so much easier when you don't have to deal with employment. When I made my move I was laser focused on getting the details nailed down and not having a job made it so much simpler. The same can be said for the move. The logistics of packing up an entire life and moving halfway across a continent is not a trivial exercise. Because I was highly organized about what I was doing, I was able to orchestrate everything perfectly and that took up most of my time. I couldn't even imagine trying to run all that stuff down while working.
