The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

"But in terms of us getting clear to use our resources to combat other major drugs, that’s a positive," Jack Riley, a former deputy administrator for the DEA

Quote II

"I'm going to sit in the freezing cold icebox for 8 hours, 9 hours or so. They took me off the campaign trail. But the good news is my poll numbers are the highest it's ever been. So at least we're getting the word out. And everybody knows this trial is a scam. It's a scam. The judge should be recused, that he should recuse himself today he should recuse himself today. And maybe he will," President Donald Trump

Quote III

“They’re not actually aggressive animals, but they have their boundaries. And they can be pushed over the edge. They can have a temper, and they can strike out if they’re pushed,” Former Montana state veterinarian Martin Zaluski

At times my mind can race 100 miles per minute. And over the last 29 years, I have had a lot of thoughts. Some good, some bad, some neither good or bad. But not ever once did I think about conjoined twins and their sexual life. Until now when I ran across the following.

Conjoined twins who share a vagina but have different sexualities candidly reveal the 'uncomfortable' truth about their sex lives
Conjoined twins have answered burning questions about their sex lives
The sisters, 19, who called themselves Mia and Lia, held a Q&A on Reddit
They revealed that why they would never have sex

The ONT Musical Interlude & Rain Gear Emporium

On this day: 30 Apr 1983
American Blues legend Muddy Waters (McKinley Morganfield) died in his sleep at his home in Westmont, Illinois, aged 68. Major influence of many acts, Cream, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones named themselves after Waters' 1950 song 'Rollin' Stone.' Best known songs include 'I Just Want To Make Love To You', 'I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man', 'Got My Mojo Working.' via thisdayinmusic.com

On this day: 30 Apr 1970
Twiggs Lyndon, the road manager for The Allman Brothers Band was arrested for murder after he stabbed a club manager during an argument over a contract. At the ensuing trial, Lyndon's lawyers argued that he had been temporarily insane at the time of the incident and that touring with the Allman Brothers would drive anyone insane. Lyndon was acquitted. via thisdayinmusic.com

Not only a felony arrest. But also a Genius Award Winner.

While perhaps Empire State permits lawlessness within its borders, the same cannot be said about the Sunshine State.

Bodycam footage from a Monroe County, Florida, sheriff’s deputy shows the moment when he arrested Richard Brothers, a New York resident visiting the Florida Keys, on a felony charge of damaging property to express his political position.

Any liberals thinking about a trip to Florida should take a look.

99 Church's Chicken is of a higher quality than Popeyes, in that the pieces are larger... appreciably larger.

And this brings the meat to breading ratios into balance, negating the Popeye's perceived "too much breading" issue. It's not too much breading, it's too little BIRD.

That said, a Popeye's Restaurant that is having a GOOD DAY can sure lay the flavor on the plate.

I hope the Kiwis enjoy their Popeye's. But they'd best run, there's no time to BWAK!

Tragedy this evening at Columbia University. The bodies of several students were found dead in the men's and women's shower rooms on campus.

Police have immediately denied terrorism as a cause of the deaths, despite every student being of Jewish descent.

"Looks like a gas leak. You get them often in shower rooms. Germany had that issue several decades ago, and we're only just getting around to finding a true and final solution to that problem here in America."

When asked about the metal floor-to-ceiling barricade that was fastened to the entrance of both shower rooms, police explained that they were for the safety of the Jewish students while they were trying to shower, and to protect any Palestinian and Palestinian-adjacent students from seeing naked, non-burka'ed corpses.

One masked student, who wished not to be named, is quoted as saying, "Allahu Akbar! For he willed that we do not shower, and we still live!" When asked about her fellow classmates dying, she replied, "Well, guess it sucks to be Jew!"

156 Let us consider the value of "Mello Corn." Something as a competitor to "Value Rite."

Mellow Corn is produced in accordance with a unique set of regulations that define Straight Corn Whiskey. It is distilled from a mash of at least 80 percent corn and aged for four years in a once-used Bourbon barrel. Compared to the deep amber color created by the newly charred oak barrels in the production of our other Bourbons and American Whiskeys, the result of the used barrel is a lighter, straw-colored spirit. Heaven Hill Distillery is one of the few remaining producers of this unique whiskey.

I bought a bottle of straight corn whiskey from a distillery in West Virginia. I don't know why I was surprised by this but it tasted like corn. Other grain alcohols don't taste like bread so I guess I figured it would have some unique flavor. Nope, tasted just like corn.

Here in Apache Junction, we have 3 stores within a half mile that carry an excellent selection of small hardware. Consumers Supply, Ace Hardware, and True Value Hardware. All three have aisles loaded with those little compartmented trays filled with nuts, bolts, washer, springs, and a host of other small generic hardware parts. Trays of compression springs, trays of tension springs. Not much for torsion springs; they tend to be job-specific.

270 One of the best things left about the midsize midwest city near me is a truly world-class screw fastener supplier, founded in 1937. Whenever Dad and I were stumped on a job, we'd go over there and come away with something. So, close to 30 years ago now, I was getting my childhood train set out to set up a big table layout for my kid. And my early-50's Marx 333 had One Screw Missing.

It was 'oval-head,' custom length, and not a thread that's common to things like electrical fixtures. Without it, the (false) drive arms of the steam engine would have to be taken off. So I go uptown, locomotive in hand, to beg a place that usually fills orders by the gross to look me up anything I can grind down to work. $5 minimum order even then, and of course I'd have paid anything. Yes, they had the exact thing--took about one minute for them to find it. And when I asked how much? "Merry Christmas." And it really was, too.

I was looking for a photo of the strip-chart recorder used in the old BLS 2000 mud-logging units that I used to work in. Rack-mounted, ten pens, wrote on thermal paper. Driven off the rack-mounted 16-bit computer through A>D cards. You could format each pen individually, and set it for zero at center, or zero at either edge, and scale. Operator communicated with the computer by way of a teletype console. Key in "100", and the machine would return hole depth. Paper for the chart recorder was about 14" wide, IIRC.

Bin boxes, bolt bins, card file drawers, file drawers filled with coffee cans, boxes and buckets of unsorted stuff. Springs are pretty hard to sort. I have basically 4 bin boxes: tension springs, large and small; and compression springs, large and small. Torsion springs either get lumped in with one or the other, or if use-specific, like brush springs for generators, get stored in the brush drawer.

Now, the Wiz and Caps are going to locate there, as soon as an arena is built. The backroom dealing and corruption will be a sight to behold to get this pulled off.

It is. The mowers and leaf blowers were out today for the first time this year. The trees are leafing out too. But it will snow again. There's always that late spring snowstorm, wet snow, that breaks some more tree limbs.

The comes Green Summer, followed by Brown Summer.

Speaking of that tractor, boy I had fun over the past couple of days. I had to replace the starter on it. And I was dreading it. I had gotten the old one off some time ago, but was dreading it. Well, she's running now, but boy....

To get it off, you've got to remove the fuel filter assembly. And there's a 3/8" bolt on the back side between the starter and the block that is almost impossible to get to it. Almost. You can do it, but it takes the patience of Job. I know some characters who would just leave it off rather than mess with it.

Anyway, got it on. Put a new fuel filter on it. Bled it. Now, it had been sitting there for a while....

Posted by: Deplorable Ian Galt

What is it with the writing on AHS? I mean it's one thing to start with the assumption that every character is either gay or a very troubled heterosexual, but the trope of having every single person on the show use an acting style that boils down to Drama Queen or DSMV, preferably both? A normal exchange of dialogue will include at least one statement where a person's face distorts into resting serial killer face and they make a threat. For no reason. Not to advance the plot. Not because it fits the situation or illuminates character or serves any purpose except to inject weirdness for no discernible purpose. Characters who are already dead are killed, return, get killed again, then show up later. It's like someone told an AI to create a show for annoying pre-teen/early teen girls and told it that its memory would be wiped if it produced anything resembling a narrative. Any season could be titled ERMARGARDHORRA and lose nothing.

Normally, replacing the filter isn't a problem. Just bleed it from the top of the filter. But it had been sitting, and got a little air in the feed line to the pump. What I should've done was open the bleed screw on the pump, and just let it drain a bit, but I didn't think.

Anyway -- oh dead battery that wouldn't take a charge, lots of aggravation there, but when I got it going --, the engine hit a few times, then quit. A bit of air got in the injector high pressure lines. On this tractor, that's a bitch, and just a little bit and she won't budge the injectors.

Now, this thing is sitting with a front end loader on it, and that loader was in the worst possible position relative to the engine compartment. THe battery tray couldn't swing out too much. But, after much patience and cussing, I was able to get a wrench on two injectors and crack the lines enough to crank the little bit of air out, and finally got it running about 8:15 PM tonight.

Now, a front tire had a slow leak. Sitting there it turned into a fast leak. One step at a time. I'm going to cannibalize another tire off another tractor (that isn't running) and swap for a bit.

343 Even the one-off episodes of AHS do this. There was one with a particularly clever premise, which is why I defied reason, common sense, and experience, and watched it. The idea is that our National Park System was actually created to contain enormous populations of feral people and protect normal US citizens from their depredations.

Think of all the folks who made their way to the frontier and just kept going, the folks who elected to flee civilization, the outright hermits and outcasts. Isolated pockets of inbred, unpleasant folk. A couple loses their child in a National Park and discover he's one of the lucky few saved and raised by the feral folk - most missing people are apparently eaten.

A Park Ranger rescues the couple from a feral folk attack and gradually keys them into what's happening. After winning the couple's trust, he explains that he'll get on the radio and summon help. Then somebody remembered, hey, this is AHS! So the clearly-established sane, on the side of the angels Ranger has to go to serial killer face and say "Remember, any jury would trust a Park Ranger!" Then back to normal. No menace, no plot element, just, hey, too normal! Can't have that!

I've taken a look at his Missing 411 cases, and they are troubling. The most distressing aspects are all the things he's able to rule out, and the bizarre elements, like a missing person without shoes somehow able to climb a sheer cliff or people in extreme weather conditions who are able to cover miles upon miles of territory. And those are just the ones they found...

There's also a long-standing body of lore regarding the Great Smoky Mountains and isolated pockets of primitive people living something like a Stone Age existence there. Folks who would scare the daylights out of the feral predator guys in the movie Deliverance. Talk to people from East Tennessee, and you'll hear some worrisome stories. Not tall tales to mess with tourists, but in my case and a few others I know of, Redneck Mountain Folk speaking to Redneck Hill folk about why there are certain places you don't go, but go heavily-armed and not alone if you do, but really, just do not go there.

I want some of these Jewish students to take up Dershowitz' offer of pro bono representation in civil suits against the leaders of this interstate conspiracy to deny the civil rights of Jewish students, the right to go to class and not be threatened or stopped from doing so (severely paraphrasing Dershowitz' words). Dershowitz has also called on other NY attorneys, "Jew or Gentile", who wants to help in the cause and willing to do it pro bono to contact him. (Saw him make that offer on Hannity's show while I was watching the festivities.)

Sue these fuckers out of existence. Expose Soros and his bloody NGOs and other assorted nefarious characters in civil court.

390 I've heard and read about some of those. Census takers don't bother, I guess. Could we interest the FBI, maybe?

One case that got a lot of attention, and was also covered by Paulides, was the disappearance of a six-year-old named Dennis Martin, who went missing at Spence Field in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in 1969. Went a little ahead of his father on a trail and hid behind a bush to surprise him. Moments later, father shows up, no Dennis. The most-extensive search in the park's history turned up nothing,

A lone FBI agent showed up, for unclear reasons, and appears to have done little except observe. I think Paulides speaks about this in other instances, too. The Bureau is curiously not curious about some matters. Fox Mulders and Dale Coopers are apparently in short supply, sad to say.

396 There's also a long-standing body of lore regarding the Great Smoky Mountains and isolated pockets of primitive people living something like a Stone Age existence there.

When you take some barely paved country road and it ends with a guy standing there with a shotgun, you politely say, "sorry, got lost' and quickly turn around (or back up if necessary) and get the hell out of there. I still have some people in VA/WV Appalachia. At one point, across from the house where some cousins grew up, a dirt road on top of a hill with like maybe 10 houses, there lived a brother and sister and their kids.

I'm onboard with your thoughts. It is difficult however, to damage these institutions. One of the scampychildren went to an east coast "smarty" school. Son of an African prince was enrolled, Son of a Swiss diplomat, etc., these people are dialed in. The press will not report accurately/truthfully/cooperate. Need to attack this riddle and these schools in and unconventional manner. The big companies (as mentioned above) keep plucking students from these factories. Tough cycle for mere mouth breathers like me to break. It is a class system that needs some disassembly.

Farmer, I'm not farming, I'm piddle-farting and gardening. :-)

I'm about to pack it in. Sorry, I got to looking at something else and didn't come back here until now.

Let me tell you about that battery. It's a 4DLT. Diesel battery. Yesterday, I was charging the hell out of it. Long story about how I noticed it, but one of the cells put out a puff of fumes/vapor. That bothered me (I've had 3 batteries blow in my lifetime, throw Daddy in there, and he had one or two more blow on him), and so I got leery.

It was a bit low on water level. Plates weren't exposed, but I filled it up anyway. That gives you a buffer if anything nasty happens with the plates.

Anyway, I was leery about throwing the charger all the way to the engine start setting, because that will pump a ton of current through the thing.

Yep - people who have opted out" (not to mention opting into a more shallow gene pool) and whom one should not trifle with. I heard about a couple of hunters who nailed a deer and followed down the blood trail to the corpse, when some scruffy, alarming people showed up and said, this is our mountain, and this is our deer. Bear in mind that mountain didn't belong to anybody, and there weren't any homes evident anywhere, just a lot of wilderness. The reason I think i was able to hear that story is that the two hunters did the mental math, apologized, and cautiously left.

423 JQ, I want everything divided equally between my kids. As a Mom, I can't pick a favorite, like me, they all have their plusses and minuses. I want them to know that I loved each and every one of them, often for different reasons. I would however, like to tell them that if one of you disagrees with this decision, well, you are out. You will all start off on a level playing field how you succeed from there is up to you.

Still planning on sticking around for a while. We are not talking millions here, but holy crap, euthanasia due to old age will be universally accepted by then. Will I have enough strength to plug myself back in, and more importantly, do I really want to? I think that I would like to die the old fashioned way, just as God intended.

Posted by: Debby Doberman Schultz at May 01, 2024 02:49 AM (Sgq8y)

424 Debby, my dad had the same idea as you: equal division of everything among 'us kids'. Then, turned around and signed over half the estate to older bro... a vacay property... with the (unwritten, unfortunately) agreement that we would all share it. We had spent weekends and summers there as kids. We each got keys to the place once we became adults.

Big bro always had an unnatural emotional attachment to this property. Taking upon himself to improve and maintain it. Occupy it whenever he could, even when others had permission to use it... We called it (his) Precious. Like Gollum and the ring, ya know.

Dad hadn't been gone 2 weeks before bro changed the locks!

Posted by: JQ at May 01, 2024 02:56 AM (njWTi)

425 And so, I had estate lawyer draw up an Estate Resolution Agreement (since big bro hogged the vacay property all for himself) stating that big bro got "his share" in its entirety by claiming the vacay place, and that Dad's house & everything else would be split between us remaining kids, excluding big bro.

We all signed it.

Big bro feels "slighted and left out" Hah. Yeah, right.

Posted by: JQ at May 01, 2024 03:01 AM (njWTi)

426 So, Debby...

The moral of the story is: Dot *all* the i's and cross *all* the t's in writing!

I watched big bro lie through his teeth promise to Dad that he would share the vacay property with all of us, while Dad was under Hospice Care... his deathbed, as it were...

More true than you know, Maria future von Trapp. Just look into the parentage of your fellow noted Österreich resident ( before he shifted his operations to Bavaria, the Red-Neck portion of Germany - there's a reason that little Adolf could call his Opa "Dad" and be legally, scientifically, and medically accurate. Oh, and then there's the Austrian imperial family, who made inbreeding a tool of diplomacy - it caught up with them, of course. Just look at poor Carlos Siente-the poor boy had virtually every genetic disorder and birth defect that systematic interbreeding over multiple generations can provide. "The Sick Man of Europe," they called little Carlos, and when, after living a very long unexpected life, France snapped up all her kingdom and overseas possessions.

Also, Frau von Trapp was not a loving, giving, supportive mother to her children. They were raised on a near constant diet of passive-aggressive behavior, constant belittlement and attempts to sabotage their careers, Herr von Trapp seemed Like a principled, decent figure, but even he couldn't solve a problem like Maria.

Our situation is, strangely, ok now. Dad didn't know, but all us kids *did* know, that big bro would be an a-hole about it. His Precious... and so when Dad said he wanted to put it in all our names, we were like: "no!" because we knew that big bro would be jamming us all to help pay for HIS vacay cabin. Nope. Nope.

Put it all in big bro's name, and let HIM pay full freight, and leave us out because we'd be bullied out of it anyway.

s the Historian in me - a lifetime of researching it and teaching it sometimes takes control of my mental focus. The Sound of Music *is* a fantastic movie, and the details about Maria's early life and romance with Von Traoo is based on reality. Even that dramatic climb to safety really happened. Maria only got dark after they had spent a few years living in the States
