THE MORNING RANT: Country Fried Gefilte Fish! The Conservative Christian South Is a Jewish Safe Haven

The situation for Jewish Americans in blue cities and at elite college campuses is getting more dire, as the left’s persistent - yet under-reported - anti-semitismis now exploding out into the open. Harassment, intimidation, and violence directed at Jews is now openly accepted wherever the left and the ruling class gather.

The American South and heartland, by contrast, are safe havens, and the conservative Christian majority here provide a loving embrace of Jewish Americans who seek refuge here.*

(*The same disclaimer applies to Jewish refugees fleeing to red states as with political and economic refugees leaving blue states – do not vote in your new state like those in the state you are fleeing.)

I have previously expressed my frustration whenever someone tries to claim that anti-semitism is a “both sides” problem and offers up the hypothetical, right-wing “Roscoe in his cabin” as being no different than the institutional Jew-hatred in academia and in the Democrat caucus in Congress. Today I am going to discuss how warmly our Jewish brothers and sisters are received in the South. Our Christian faith demands it, but beyond faith, it’s just who we are.

But first, a reminder of how open the Jew-hatred is among Democrats in Congress. The term “From the river to the sea” has a very clear and historical meaning, specifically, the eradication of the nation of Israel and the elimination of the Jews who inhabit Israel. After October 7, it is explicitly clear how those reciting this chant would like to go about “eliminating” the Jews in Israel. A resolution in Congress condemning this genocidal phrase was opposed by 43 Democrats, and just one Republican. (Is that you, Roscoe?)

Progressive "Squad" Democrats were among those to vote against it, including Reps. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.; Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich.; Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.; Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y.; Cori Bush, D-Mo., as well as House Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash.

It’s almost unthinkable that it’s happening in this country, but in blue America - especially in cities where “elite” universities are located – it is now an acceptable idea on the left that areas should be cleansed of Jews in a fashion reminiscent of Czarist Russian pogroms or 1930s-era Nazi Judenrein.

Writer Karol Marcowicz, who is Jewish, and who fled with her family from New York to Florida during the Covid tyranny, wrote a brilliant post a few days ago on X/Twitter explaining to her Jewish friends the current reality:

1) America doesn’t have an anti-semitism problem. Left-wing cities have an anti-semitism problem.
2) Jewish Americans are embraced and live without fear in conservative parts of this country.
3) There is no equivalency between institutional, left-wing anti-semitism and the hypothetical right-wing Roscoe in his cabin.
4) Jewish Americans have got to understand that voting for the left (Democrats) is validating Jew-hatred.

A lot of Jewish friends, especially those who are finally awake after 10/7, say things like "how is this America?" or "It's so scary that this Jew-hatred is happening everywhere." But it's very much NOT "America" and it absolutely is NOT happening "everywhere." In south Florida, Jews wear the dinner plate Magen Davids and no one says one word. In rural Michigan, churches put "pray for Israel" on the signs outside. I'm not naive, obviously Jew-haters can and do live anywhere. But they're only thriving, open, proud, in blue areas and I'm not going to let people ignore that. A lot of liberal Jews are trying to parse things right now. They imagine they are still of the left but just on this one tiny little thing, their right to exist, they disagree. No, my friends. It's a house of cards and you're pulling the one from the very bottom. The whole left ideology is corrupt and you're going to have to face it. You can't spread the blame around. The hatred, the rage, the violence, the dehumanization is all coming from one side: yours.

As even Jake Tapper has noted, Jewish students at Columbia are being advised to avoid campus “until it’s safe again for them.” Josh Hammer notes that this has a very 1930s feel to it, pointing out that cleansing an area of Jews – for their own safety – is a modern day Judenrein.

Glenn Reynolds (Instapundit) wrote a piece for the NY Post a few days ago advising Jewish students to avoid the Jew-hatred at the northern elite universities and head south.

In this piece he provides examples of how the problem isn’t just anti-semitic attitudes at elite, northern universities, but actual physical actions being taken against Jewish students.

And it’s not just Columbia. At Yale, a Jewish student was stabbed in the eye with a Palestinian flag wielded by an anti-Israel protester after fellow marchers blocked building entrances.
She and a friend were singled out because they were wearing Hasidic Jewish attire and surrounded by members of the pro-Palestinian mob. As The Post reported, the student “said she tried to report the assault to campus police but they told her there was nothing they could do.”
Harvard has been just as bad. Facing a congressional probe over widespread antisemitism and failure to protect Jewish students, it’s been doing its best to stonewall. Jews who put out menorahs for Hanukkah had to take them away each night for safekeeping to avoid vandalism, but when pro-Palestinian students put up a display Harvard provided 24/7 security.

He contrasts this with the response in Knoxville (University of Tennessee) after October 7.

In my city of Knoxville, after Hamas’ Oct. 7 rape/torture/murder/kidnapping spree, we had a pro-Israel rally attended by all our major civic leaders. The allegedly elite schools had marches in support of Hamas.

A diaspora of northern Jewish students to southern universities has already begun, and it’s growing.

This following piece was published a few days ago at The Free Press, which was founded a couple of years ago by Bari Weiss after she defected from the mandatory left-wing groupthink at the NY Times.

Katz, who is Jewish, says the antisemitism that’s increasingly visible at colleges nationwide—especially in the Ivy League, and other elite institutions like Stanford and Berkeley—hasn’t even touched his [Elon, North Carolina] campus. “I haven’t been affected by it at all,” Katz told me. “I definitely feel very safe on campus regarding my religion.”

It’s not just the absence of Jew-hatred steering these kids south, it’s also the overall culture of freedom in the South.

“Kids up north were pretty unhappy during those Covid lockdown years,” says his dad, Larry Glazer. “And colleges down south were offering something different. My son and his friends would look at TikTok and see all these college kids going to football games, throwing parties, living their lives. It has an impact.”

Finally, there is such an open hatred of practicing Christians among our secular elites that they have strangely projected their own anti-semitism onto conservative Christians. The truth could not be more different. Conservative Christians are overwhelmingly supportive of the nation of Israel, with deep love and support for our Jewish brothers and sisters, both here in America and abroad.

At thousands of pulpits in churches across this country, Christians are praying for Israel and for our Jewish kin. This is but one example - Pastor Mike Haman in Baton Rouge is a dear person to my wife and me for his role several years ago in bringing us back to the Faith. This is how he started his sermon on April 14, the morning after Iran launched a fusillade of missiles at Israel.

I want us to take a moment, would you do this, would you join me in praying for the nation of Israel? Father, we come to you today and we lift up our brothers and sisters in the Middle East. God, I thank you. You said in Genesis 12, you told the nation of Israel, “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse those who curse you.” Father, we want to walk under the blessing of almighty God. We don’t understand all the dynamics of what’s happening in the Middle East, but we know that you are sovereign, and Lord we know that the Jews are your chosen people. Salvation came to the Earth through the Jewish people. And so God I pray for peace in the Middle East. God I pray for those that are suffering, the innocent lives that are being lost, Father. Lord I pray that you would cancel the plans of the enemy, in Jesus’ name. Lord I thank you that you are sovereign. You are in control, and so we trust that, and we rest in that, in Jesus’ name. And all of God’s people said, ‘Amen.’

Western civilization is dependent on the perpetuation of Judeo-Christianity. Arm in arm, with the same God as our mighty fortress, Christians and Jews together can save our country...and civilization.

An individual bigot doesn't matter, not even if there are many individual bigots in one place. If someone hates me because I'm a Jew and doesn't want to associate with me, then okay. I don't like it and I think it's dumb, but that's his right. He can hate me if he pleases.

What he can't do is use institutional power, violence, disruption of civic affairs, etc. in order to harm me because he hates me for being Jewish. He is allowed to refuse association with me, boycott my business, etc. because he hates me for my faith. He is not allowed to bring an institution to bear against me for that, nor to riot and intimidate to force the issue with those who do *not* hate me, nor to commit violence against me.

This isn't hard. I have met bigots. It sucks. I have never been oppressed, however, because I don't live in a big city or attend a university anymore.

Rampant violent crime? Blue city problem.

There are some exceptions like drugs and corruption that can be found both within and without blue cities, but most of the shit in the news reflects blue city problems, or radiates out from them (trannyism in schools, for example, is not just a blue city problem, but it originates there and colonizes the countryside).

It wasn't even considered to be "abnormal" by the congregation. It's just what we do on a regular basis.

Give it time, and not much of it.

Knoxville probably won't allow what's going on in NYC and the like to be reproduced there, but UT will. UT is still a university, and is therefore still a bastion of prog cancer. It will go less wild than Columbia, but only because Knoxville won't let them go as far as NYC allows Columbia to go. You can be certain that within UT, however, there are more people on Hamas' side than not, especially where it counts in leadership.

Geography and local customs are irrelevant. Universities are universities.

Yep. Just take a look at the university encampment map and you see B1G schools all over. Indiana U, Michigan State U, Northwestern U, Ohio State U, Purdue U, U of Michigan, U of Minnesota. But you do not see SEC schools, with the exception of U of Florida and Vanderbilt U.

45 This hits home in a very personal way. Talking to my sisters who live in Connecticut after 10/7, their first response is :I knew it was a mistake to let those Nazis off after Charlottesville.
I was astounded. My response was: You think this is coming from the right? This is coming from t he left!

Thinking about this. Who do they think I am? Do they think because I am a conservative, that I'm a Nazi? Because I disagree with them on abortion and transmania, and vote Republican I am some right wing nut?
They don;t have any understanding that the people I hang out with are some of the most tolerant, generous people on the planet. Meanwhile my sister quit her job because they wouldn't fire a coworker who was writing rabid antisemetic comments in her social media.
I don;t know if they have changed their opinions over the last 6 months because I expressly avoid talking about any of this. Just glad I am here.

I like the observation that, in regard to blacks, in the South, they care how close you get as long as you don't get too big, and in the North they don't care how bid you get as long as you don't get too close.

Having grown up in the North, I think the second part of that, at least, is pretty accurate.

82 Thank you for posting this. I have relatives who have a home in the area attacked by Hamassholes. Fortunately, they are safe, but have not been able to go home since October 7. My concervative Christian friends have been very supportive, with public postings and private messages.

I do have a son in a state university in a more rural area of the South. He also went to a small southern state school. The new president of his former college came out with a strong statement condemning the Hamas terrorism back in October, and my son's new school has not had any violence. A nearby school had some "encampments" that were poorly attended and then cleared out as the state has a Republican Governor and Attorney General. The Hillel has been left alone at this school.

What is sad is that friendships from high school and college have been broken as former schoolmates have been very loudmouthed in their support of the terrorists. I have told my son that he should not have toxic people in his life, and whoever does this is always welcome to apologize when they see the error of their ways. My son is still depressed as people he thought were his friends have become so vile.

Honestly, definite ring of truth. Right now, NoVa has Jew and Muslim neighbors living side by side and even working together in some joint charity projects all the religious orgs do. There's not a peep of protest here - it's all in DC...and yet, we have huge populations on both, both on campus and in the community.

Heck, I went to GMU campus to have lunch with my daughter this weekend. Dead as a doornail campus with finals coming.

All it took was 2 expulsions in the fall for a fist fight during some protest marches and the GMU pres putting out the FL rules 6 months ago...and peace and calm now rain, at least on this issue. I was surprised.

149 College is a vacation from life. It is 4(maybe 6 now) years where one has no responsibilities. Food, clothing, shelter all provided by parents or government. This applies to those elite colleges where all this is happening. Students who have to work to pay for college, summer jobs,, internships etc do not have this luxury.
That is the word. Luxury. They are living off their parents success in life. This is why expulsion is the way to go. They have no marketable skills. Classes about Taylor Swift and Feminist writing(wait, is that even a thiing anymore) and equity science does not prepare one to actually earn a living.
I think they are in for a rude awakening, in the same way that people mutilating their bodies are going to get when they begin to age.

Religious leaders usually don't practice what they preach. Priests sexually abuse children. Ministers cheat on their wives. They pass the collection plate and then skim off the top. Mr. Pastor sure drives a nice car, doesn't he?

All of this is typical, which is one of the problems with organized religion. It's an impossible ideal used as a means to wield power over the gullible and prevent progress. Civic humanism is superior because it doesn't make such unachievable demands on its practitioners or cause a crisis of the faith when its own leaders have human imperfections.

So a rapist like Trump being a theocratic dictator is not hard to believe at all. It would in fact be downright normal and expected. People never learn when it comes to this, and religion is one of the reasons they don't. Their racket depends on cultivating ignorance across generations.

They don't matter electorally on a nationwide scale. But in certain enclaves, they do matter. There are enough Jewish voters in NYC, Philly, and even Atlanta to make it difficult if not impossible for Dums to steal elections there, if Jews suddenly woke up and started voting GOP.

And remember, it's almost a two-for one deal: not only would these votes not go to the Dums, they'd go to the GOP. Big swing there.

I haven't run the numbers, but I'm willing to bet that in every swing state that Biden "won" in 2020, there were enough Jewish votes to cover the margin.

A lot of the difference comes from where the Jews immigrated from. The South has always had Jewish communities located in its cities if not in the countryside so much but they were from Western Europe and not from Eastern Europe.

The later diaspora from Eastern Europe/Russia by Jews by and large went to the North and somewhat to the West because the South was an impoverished backwater by comparison. Immigration to the South largely withered during the slavery years and the aftermath of Reconstruction and segregation.
