  • Elizabeth Bathory eat your heart out. Or someone else's. Probably a peasant's. Three women have contracted HIV after receiving "vampire facials" at an unlicensed spa in New Mexico. (Ars Technica)
The woman's case led investigators to VIP Spa, which was unlicensed, had no appointment scheduling system, and did not store client contact information. In an inspection in the fall of 2018, health investigators found shocking conditions: unwrapped syringes in drawers and counters, unlabeled tubes of blood sitting out on a kitchen counter, more unlabeled blood and medical injectables alongside food in a kitchen fridge, and disposable equipment-electric desiccator tips-that were reused. The facility also did not have an autoclave-a pressurized oven-for sterilizing equipment.
I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit.

    Twice.

6 Where in New Mexico was the vampire spa located?

Evening and morning to all the early risers and late toilers! It's Friday, and I neither feel badly enough to stay home from work nor eager and ready to get back to my desk. Which has been true for a while.

Now that I have Meds Part A and B, and am deciding on a supplement to it, the time has come for me to tell my boss I'm retiring. If I go beyond June 3, I'll lose a big chunk of my unused vacation time, for which I get paid when I leave.

It's scary . . . but my office is due to move sometime this year. I do NOT want to be the one in charge of organizing that. And I'm sick of my work and my commute, as well as this dreary city. Time to go.

I lost all my respect for my employer when, despite touting themselves as an institution on the forefront of medical and scientific research, they fell hard for the Sniffle Scare and the Face Diaper Hoax. And then had the nerve to threaten me with job loss if I didn't take an unproven, untested, experimental shot. If they hadn't accepted my religious exemption in '21, I'd have let them fire me, taken my SS and pension, looked into suing them while I took in unemployment, and moved on.

Spanish omelets were invented by a restaurant in Brainerd, Minnesota who needed a Mexican item for it's "Around the World" section of its menu. This this also explains how black olives and sour cream crept into an recipie purportedly from Tiajuana. Not remarkably. It was wildly successful and spread its way across the entire upper Midwest.

36 Yesterday for lunch I pan-sizzled a 3 oz. slab of grass-fed beef with chili powder, paprika, and pepper, together with one scrambled egg, similarly seasoned. Very nice combo. A few years ago I would never have dreamed of combining such foods, or eating either of them more than once in a purple moon (i.e., even more rarely than in a blue moon). But then, a few years ago I wasn't ready to retire, had never thought about the Midwest as a new home or a lot of other things.

The most disappointing "Mexican" restaurant I ever went to was in Pittsburgh. Not spicy stuff at all. Yet my hostess swore that it was the most popular place for Mex in town.

For that matter, places in Denver that swore they were "authentic" New Mexican had no green chiles to be seen, no sopaipillas, and no honey already on the tables. Pffft.

47 One of the best dishes in New Mexico is Red Chile Colorado. When done properly, it consists of pork shoulder, lard, and a secret blend of red chilies which is then allowed to slow cook for about 12 hours. Depending on the restaurant, in addition to warm homemade flour tortillas, it is served either straight up or with chopped onions, lime, and cilantro. If you're a regular, you can get a vampire facial out back in the parking lot at a discount.

It consisted of 3 eggs, 80% fat hamburger browned in Lawry's package taco seasoning, onions, tomatoes, green bell pepper, black olives, and American cheese with hash browns, white or wheat toast on the side, Pace salsa, and sour cream on the side. Jalapenos were by request only for that extra authentic Mexican kick. It was the best and most Authentic Spanish omelette since I had been in Brainerd. MN a decade earlier.

Nothing surprising in the article other than it includes pictures of some of the paid protesters. It underlines that all these protests over the last number of years are are nothing more than thinly disguised Marxist insurrections. Additionally, the Tidal organization is involved as a method of distributing the funds.

184 You would think B'more would focus on getting the harbor open.

I note we are using a 50 year old crane designed for lifting a Soviet Sub (Glomar Explorer crane), but not asking the Dutch salvage forms that have much more modern cranes with over 5 times the lift capacity.

So the Feds are not focused on solving this problem.

3 channels opened so far. Been following ALL the videos everyday, concerning the salvage operations. Lot more to clearing the channels than just "lifting" sections of the bridge. The entire roadway is on the harbor floor as well. It's actually progressing very quickly. But, of course, the arm chair engineers know better.

185 I don't know if Pixy is still doing this, but I have a Computer Question:

Intel has released Core Ultra I7 165H and Core Ultra I9 185H.

The I9 is 5.1GHz and the I7 is 5GHz (a whole whopping 0.1 GHz) that never really runs like that in a notebook due to cooling issues.

They have identical core counts and types, max turbo power 115W, but the I7 seems to have a huge advantage over the I9, and not just being $180 cheaper than the I9 - it has a lower Processor Base Power of 28W vs 45W, which I'm thinking is ideal for battery based platforms and anyone who is doing anything other than full power gaming.

What am I seeing that isn't right to justify these two negatives against the I9?

187 I looked up benchmarks comparing the 165H to the 185H:

https://tinyurl.com/22cz9y6y

The cheaper chip is actually faster on those tests.

On other tests the 185H can be nearly 10% faster:

https://tinyurl.com/5xnmx7nz

Probably just because it's using more power; from the specs alone it would only be 2% faster.

188 I picked up a Nokia about a year ago. It was a total POS. I've gone back to Samsung.
