I assume most of the comparative aging is just due to much more sun exposure? Maybe a little regarding modern skin care products (for women...most men don't use them). Diet probably doesn't make a huge difference, or disease...I'm sure smallpox screwed up many faces in the past, but those aren't the ones that surprise us by looking much older than we expect.

If you look at photos of baseball players, from the early 20th century, until well into the 60s, they look so much older than they have ever since. Guys in their 30s genuinely look old, so you end up wondering how they can be athletes.
I'm sure some of it's sun exposure, but there has to be more to it than that.

They made some Brady Bunch movies in the 90s which were funny. They were poking fun at the original series but in a lighthearted way.
And then I will point out one benefit to the "represent every group" ethos - I'm watching the Three Body Problem and each main character is a different race/sex so it is easy to remember who is who.
Its ok in a story mostly set in modern London though any time I see a black Viking or crap like that I turn it off.

Yes. I think as late as the Fifties, young boys looked forward to the day when they got their first pair of "long pants." It meant they were growing up, and more than that, would be considered more grown up by grownups.
The only time I wear shorts is if I'm working out. I suppose if I lived in Africa or Florida without access to air conditioning, I might have to plump for a pair of those tropical "Englishman in the desert or jungle" shorts . . . but then I'd be nuts from the heat anyway.

Read the letters they mailed to relatives - “we shall meet again in the great beyond” and stuff like that. Your daughter moves to Oregon, chances are you’ll never see her again. We take a lot of things for granted.
Death and disease particularly were common. Losing children and Mothers during birth, TB, malaria, smallpox and measles and polio and and and..
If you survived past 30 you had some reason to be dour and reserved, maybe.

When you're sleeping or relaxing at home, shorts are fine. I think Ann, and myself, are merely saddened by the decline in standards, that men now think nothing of going out in public without slacks and a shirt with a collar on it.

According to an official with the Detroit Lakes Police Department, a homeowner in the city called 911 at 4:45 a.m. Monday morning after discovering a person in their residence. Responding officers found the alleged burglar, made an arrest, and transported that person to the Becker County Sheriff’s Office. A jail official told Alpha News that Mitchell was still in custody as of early Monday afternoon.
“Knowing very few details at this time, I am shocked by the news of Sen. Nicole Mitchell’s arrest for first-degree burglary. The public expects legislators to meet a high standard of conduct.
