Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Of Course: NPR Suspends Senior Editor For Exposing the State Media Outlet's BiasNPR respects all viewpoints, except those which conflict with its own. NPR has suspended a senior editor who authored an essay published last week on an online news site in which he argued that the network had "lost America's trust" because of a liberal bias in its coverage, the outlet reported. Uri Berliner was suspended Friday for five days without pay, NPR reported Tuesday. The revelation came exactly a week after Berliner publicly claimed in an essay for The Free Press, an online news publication, that NPR had allowed a "liberal bent" to influence its coverage, causing the outlet to steadily lose credibility with audiences. The essay reignited the criticism that many prominent conservatives have long leveled against NPR and prompted newsroom leadership to implement monthly internal reviews of the network's coverage, NPR reported. Berliner's essay also angered many of his colleagues and exposed NPR's new chief executive Katherine Maher to a string of attacks from conservatives over her past social media posts.USA Today thinks that statement "refutes" Berliner's long, detailed criticism. ... The Peabody Award-winning journalist highlighted what he viewed as examples of the network's partisan coverage of several major news events, including the origins of COVID-19 and the war in Gaza. Berliner also lambasted NPR's diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies -- as reflected both within its newsroom and in its coverage -- as making race and identity "paramount in nearly every aspect of the workplace." "All this reflected a broader movement in the culture of people clustering together based on ideology or a characteristic of birth," he wrote. ...Oh, trust huh? Like lying constantly to support whatever delusion the left is currently obsessed with? Another liberal Democrat is going to check every other liberal Democrats' work? Oh good, that should take care of everything. More: NPR has informed Berliner he will be fired if he speaks truth to power again. NPR media writer David Folkenflik revealed on Tuesday that Berliner beginning on Friday was suspended for five days without pay. Folkenflik, who reviewed a copy of the letter from NPR brass, said that the company told the editor he had failed to secure its approval for outside work for other news outlets -- a requirement of NPR journalists. NPR called the letter a "final warning," saying Berliner would be fired if he violated NPR's policy again.Via Instapundit. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

(Science Daily) Lithium-ion batteries wear out a little each time they are recharged (and have another flaw that if you keep them on the charger full-time they can swell up and destroy your expensive gadget entirely). In testing the effects of different charging patterns, researchers found that charging with high-frequency AC power caused half as much wear as regular DC power. PBS (not sure about NPR, but I have direct experience with PBS) gets spectrum at a steeply discounted rate during FCC auctions. The future of Western "democracy".
There is also a color revolution starting in the country of Georgia, designed to overthrow the democratically elected government, of course. The immediate issue has also been the source of mass pro-EU demonstrations in other countries - the Georgian government is trying to limit the amount of foreign money spent on political campaigns in Georgia. You may not be aware of this, but the absolute bedrock principle of Our Democracy is that you have to allow unlimited amounts of foreign money to be spent influencing your elections, and you have to allow unlimited amounts of foreign NGOs into your country to influence your elections. If you disagree with that, you are a filthy Putin-lover. Posted by: The ARC of History! at April 16, 2024 12:21 PM (YAtuc) 96

The Peabody Award-winning journalist highlighted what he viewed as examples of the network's partisan coverage of several major news events, including the origins of COVID-19
--- And there is no "conservative" or "right" side of the origins of Covid-19. Conservatives or "the right" doesn't gain one bit if it originated in a Chinese lab or not. If we're are worried about "racism" or "bigotry" why not assess the different "reflections" of the virus emerging from a somewhat distinctive and quaint custom of "wet markets" as opposed to a blunder in a 21st-century virus lab. The only reason to deflect away from the lab was: Tony Fraudci paid for research he wasn't allowed to do in America there. The entire media is guilty of politicizing the origins of Covid-19, because "Look who's on each side". That's the definition of politicizing it. At the time Fraudci was allied with Trump, attacking Fraudci wasn't a boon for "MAGA", because there could be questions about the mutual support that existed (at the time) between Trump and Fraudci. I am not sure why Berliner decided to go kamikaze on NPR. He was complicit in not just bias but unethical journalism. I still say the most telling thing he says is that NPR chose stories and framing to harm the Trump Presidency. Seems like that would be a red flag that he was working for the wrong company. But that didn't occur to him then. My guess he got passed over for promotion to some DEI based wokebot and this is his grievance. Posted by: blaster at April 16, 2024 12:36 PM (wN+rA) 178

They're not making much progress anymore, and they're well shy of it working. The more curious part is the preamble implying that ranked choice voting would be acceptable, even though ranked choice voting regularly gives the win to people who get no where near the majority, and the results in Maine would have nothing to do with the national popular vote totals. Posted by: polynikes at April 16, 2024 12:32 PM (TDRQO) --- You have to understand what they mean by "intellectual". It's Marxian. Marx created a divide: you could be a Marxist and contribute to the cause of universal liberation and dignity of man, or you could look after your own material interests. Resisting the natural pull of (selfish) material interests, has been contrasted with more universal "intellectual" pursuits, that don't just seek the gain that anybody can want unreflexively for themselves. And it doesn't matter how much I actually use my intellect to argue the reasonability of material pursuits and interests against horrific flights of fantasy which has killed 100s of millions, my cause is materialistic, and therefore not "intellectual". No individual under $50k and no household under $100k listens to NPR. It's not that Johnson has only a 1-vote majority, so he can't do anything .... it's that you only need one vote to say "no." He won't even say no. Posted by: People's Hippo Voice at April 16, 2024 12:48 PM (yikga) 235
If you're wondering why Liberals defend NPR so vehemently, it's because it has become their only challenge to conservative talk radio. They tried taking it head on with Air America and no one listened (as is the norm on all left slanted radio shows). So, rather than having no presence, they force their participation with tax payer funded agitprop.
In a competitive market no one listens. And, the only people who listen to NPR are using it as a virtue signal....but for them, that's enough. Posted by: Orson at April 16, 2024 12:49 PM (dIske) 236

How does this equate to the wireless chargers available today?.
Posted by: Braenyard at April 16, 2024 12:43 PM (uyqzN) Wireless chargers just replace the cord from the wall wart to the phone with electromagnetic coupling. There's a coil in the charging pad that gets fed AC at some frequency, and a coil inside the phone that couples with that, and feeds it into a rectifier/filter network and a voltage regulator to make the DC that charges the battery. Essentially, you you have an air-core transformer that replaces the wire. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at April 16, 2024 12:58 PM (tkR6S) 291

OJ’s executor I believe is also his lawyer. That’s what lawyers do right, do what they have to in order to get shit done for their clients.
Yep, you get to choose the executor of your estate. A judge has to approve the executor's fees, though. Posted by: The ARC of History! at April 16, 2024 01:03 PM (YAtuc) 320
and if no one mentioned this, didn't couric do a cut and paste job when interviewing some pro gun owner rights people to make it look like none of them could answer a question she put to them?

Some years ago on "wait wait...don't tell me" when Don Jr. was testifying before some committee, they were salivating at the idea of Don Jr. throwing DJT under the bus. Peter Sagal joked that DJT said "I always wanted one of my kids to screw me, just not that one." These are our classy, civil superiors. Posted by: frankly at April 16, 2024 01:03 PM (X+TQ1) 322

She said our team was by far the best team she ever worked with and she is so glad to finally be able to work without dealing with endless drama and back stabbing . She is terrified of having to be rotated out again in June —- I manage a team of 5. All dudes. We work with an early 30s woman on another team. She has said much the same about our team. Insert the Lefty meme here about free speech not insulating you from consequences.

I don't have an issue with Berliner being suspended. I expected him to be fired. I would have been fired from my job if I published a negative editorial about my employer in an Insurance industry newsletter.

The first step toward getting rid of taxpayer subsidies for NPR would be to split the NPR/PBS appropriations into two separate parts.
Every time abolishing taxpayer support for NPR comes up, the liberals in Congress always scream, "Those knuckledraggers want to kill Big Bird! Can you believe it? THEY WANT TO HURT LITTLE CHILDREN! For shame!" Posted by: mnw at April 16, 2024 01:06 PM (NLIak) 338
