Last week's solar eclipse is a member of Saros 139, which will, in 162 years (July 16, 2186) will produce a solar eclipse off the coast of northern South America that will hit 7 minutes and 31 seconds in length. This is very close to the theoretical limit of totality length: 7 min 32 sec.
It was also the exeligmos to the total solar eclipse seen in FL, GA and off the East Coast on March 7, 1970.

I made a worm bin out of one, I use it for composting kitchen scraps and dishwater.
It is full to the top right now so I am just running the dish washing water through it and when the water runs out the drain I catch it and dump it on the fruit trees. I am also seeing if I can grow ginger and taro in it.
I also ground up some button mushrooms and put those on in the hope that I will get mushrooms later in the spring.

My father was a huge Cardinals fan. I remember him hootin and hollerin at the 1982 WS win. Lost to KC in 1985, lost to Minnesota in 1987.
(Towards the end he even stopped watching baseball, which I'd say was his favorite sport to watch on TV. When that happened, I knew the MLB was done.)

Last week's solar eclipse is a member of Saros 139, which will, in 162 years (July 16, 2186) will produce a solar eclipse off the coast of northern South America that will hit 7 minutes and 31 seconds in length. This is very close to the theoretical limit of totality length: 7 min 32 sec.
It was also the exeligmos to the total solar eclipse seen in FL, GA and off the East Coast on March 7, 1970.

After receiving a loud round of boos on Lady's Day in St. Louis (ladies admitted for half price), Templeton stepped onto the ledge of the dugout and gave Cards fans a 360-degree middle finger! First to his left, then straight ahead, then to his right. Herzog stepped up onto the top step of the dugout, grabbed Templeton by his belt, & jerked him down into the dugout.
This incident became famous as the "Gary Templeton Ladies Day salute."

1 saros is when 3 types of lunar orbital cycles align. It's 223 synodic months (complete cycle of lunar phases), 242 draconic months (precession of the nodes), and 239 anomalistic months (precession of the apsides).
Those numbers are close to integral, but not exactly, of course.
Anyway, an integral number of all those three lunar cycles means the sun, moon, and earth return very close to the same relative position, including seasonal (although that will drift over the long term).

Grenades are such an iffy thing. One should unscrew the top and take a look but they are all different depending. I admit I know absolutely nothing about US issue grenades, and ComBlocs are often different depending. It's an ordnance that is inherently unsafe. Short term, the tidal interaction would be gone, and there would be crustal and seismic "realignments".
Long term, the seasons would go crazy. The main stabilizing effect of the moon is to keep the earth's spin axis fairly stable. It precesses, but the tilt only varies between 22.1 and 24.5 degrees. It's at 23.5 now, and decreasing.
Without the Moon, that tilt would become quite chaotic, like Mars. The Earth could well "lie on its side", about 90 degree tilt. The seasons would go crazy.

There would be some changes in sea level in a complex way, as with the Moon gone, the tidal bulges would change. There would still be some small bulges and oceans tides to the Sun's tidal field, but those are much smaller than the Moon's.
Sea level would rise closer to the poles and decrease near the equator, roughly.

I bought some at 18 years ago. In the middle times it went down to 12. I don't know what it is now. If you are buying it to barter with later on down the road buy bags of trash silver (no numismatic value). It still carries most of its weight and is small denominations ie quarters and dimes. If you want something to retain value, silver or gold (I did better with gold) you're looking at a ten to twenty year window.

Westlake under the pen-name Richard Stark. They're like the equivalent of a post-graduate introduction to the inner workings of pulling off a heist, as well as a window into the somewhat disturbing world of a high-functioning sociopath in the protagonist, Parker.

If one is buying gold to prepare for Armageddon, then one is NOT buying gold it as an investment, i.e., in the hope of making a profit.
If one buys or sells physical gold, you DO pay a commission on both ends, unlike buying or selling a gold ETF-- where there are no commissions at all. Plus, you have to pay to store it somewhere (bonded warehouse; safe deposit box) unless you want to assume the risk of not doing so.

From a Moron to a smarter Moron, a lot of this comes down to entry point and diversity (not that kind of diversity you smartasses) of holdings. I'm a real estate bug at my core but have precious metals, stocks (speculative, aristocrat, and everything in between), ammo, etc., etc. I like to keep a remainder amount of any/all vs. liquidating full positions. However, at times a moron or ette needs to ring the register. When all else fails I buy more dirt.

In the context of a belief in Energy as a Thing: how does one then relate to It? It's not 'God', Einstein believed anyone personifying It as God to be 'infantile'.

But then it results in a closed system: if there is only propulsive Energy, what put it into motion? To harbor an Energy belief is to believe in the Perpetual Motion Machine.
I've been dealing with this, as I am a very dedicated monotheist, coping with another person struggling to rectify a Cosmic Energy belief with a Christian monotheistic belief in the immortality of an individual soul. He can't do it.

Keplerian = an ellipse what Kepler described.
Now, Kepler figured out the motions of the planets were ellipses around the Sun. This was well before Newton, who showed that an inverse square gravitational force would produce such orbits.
Kepler figured this out observationally, watching the planets move. Newton provided the theoretical "reason" for this later.

To describe such an ellipse in 3 dimensions, you need 6 parameters, as these are the classical Keplerian orbital elements.
They are 'a' = semi-major axis, and 'e' = eccentricity. e = 0 is a circle, and 'a' would then be the radius of the circle. That defines an ellipse in a plane.
Now, for the orientation in 3D space, you need two, more , the inclination 'i', and the longitude of the ascending node, capital omega.
Now, the remaining two are the argument of periapsis, lower case omega, and the "true anomaly", theta or nu.
Those 6 define an orbit precisely in 3D space.
"Anomaly" sounds cool, but it basically means "angle" in this context. Those are the standard parameters. There are others, pick any six independent ones. There are other such "anamolies" you can use that replace some of the other terms. Mean anomaly and eccentric anomaly being two.

I love "Moon River" by Mancini. But his "Peter Gunn Theme," and his wonderfully discordant and disturbing score for Wait Until Dark are classics too. The story goes that one of the musicians on the recording session for the WuD score told him that she hated playing it, it unsettled her so. That was when he knew he'd gotten it right.
I used to have an album of his with his take on one of the themes from the Clint Eastwood spaghetti Westerns, "For a Few Dollars More" or "A Fistful of Dollars," prob. the former. I wish I could find it again.

The CBD gummies are helping me sleep pretty solidly, but not much longer -- I'm still clocking about 5.5 to 6 hours a night -- and I'm feeling a little more sluggish when I do get up. Exercise usually clears that fog away. But I have to kick myself into going out and doing said exercise.
I've got the monthly staff meeting today, and for some harebrained reason everybody wanted to do it in person at a building about ten minutes' walk away from my office. Gah.
