It is full to the top right now so I am just running the dish washing water through it and when the water runs out the drain I catch it and dump it on the fruit trees. I am also seeing if I can grow ginger and taro in it. I also ground up some button mushrooms and put those on in the hope that I will get mushrooms later in the spring. When you enter Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery (as I have done several times over the past year), one is greeted with a plaque of this off to the right in a place of prominence.

Mancini was an originalist. He didn't keep rewriting the same score. Of course, he had a certain style, but unlike Maurice Jarre and Elmer Bernstein, he didn't constantly crib from himself. My favorite Mancini score is The Molly Maguires.

Not only did Whitey Herzog pass away but Carl Erskine , the last member of the Boys of Summer, the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers WS winner also died. Amazing guy who had a son with Downs Syndrome . Erskine became a huge champion of the Special Olympics. His son died last year not log after a documentary came out about Erskine. RIP

I recently got the advice that I could nip off the really early buds and leaves from the blackberries and steep them in boiling water to make a sort of herbal tea. It has a nice but faint flavor

Nerdygirl, I don't get a good crop off of them, they are shaded by some brush I need to take down. Mostly my wife goes out and eats the fruit off the bushes, and I have started to use the leaves for flavoring in some pickles. My wife really likes the brined green plums and that recipe calls for currant leaves.

1 saros is when 3 types of lunar orbital cycles align. It's 223 synodic months (complete cycle of lunar phases), 242 draconic months (precession of the nodes), and 239 anomalistic months (precession of the apsides). Those numbers are close to integral, but not exactly, of course. Anyway, an integral number of all those three lunar cycles means the sun, moon, and earth return very close to the same relative position, including seasonal (although that will drift over the long term). An SF sergeant told me about taking grenades and replacing the fuses with smoke grenade fuses. Smoke grenade fuses don't have a time delay. He would then "accidentally" lose a bag of grenades as they moved along on patrol, knowing the VC trailing them would greedily snatch them up.

Just finished watching the Mel Gibson movie "Payback-Director's Cut" on Amazon Video. Plot is about a double-crossed robber trying to get his share of the loot back from the crooks who stole it from him.

There would be some changes in sea level in a complex way, as with the Moon gone, the tidal bulges would change. There would still be some small bulges and oceans tides to the Sun's tidal field, but those are much smaller than the Moon's. To describe such an ellipse in 3 dimensions, you need 6 parameters, as these are the classical Keplerian orbital elements. They are 'a' = semi-major axis, and 'e' = eccentricity. e = 0 is a circle, and 'a' would then be the radius of the circle. That defines an ellipse in a plane. "Anomaly" sounds cool, but it basically means "angle" in this context. Those are the standard parameters. There are others, pick any six independent ones. Morning to all you insomaniacals! 'Tis 72 and humid here, not much wind. I know I should go work out, but I really don't feel up to it. If I don't, I'll have to go tomorrow and one more day this week. I love "Moon River" by Mancini. But his "Peter Gunn Theme," and his wonderfully discordant and disturbing score for Wait Until Dark are classics too. The story goes that one of the musicians on the recording session for the WuD score told him that she hated playing it, it unsettled her so. That was when he knew he'd gotten it right. I used to have an album of his with his take on one of the themes from the Clint Eastwood spaghetti Westerns, "For a Few Dollars More" or "A Fistful of Dollars," prob. the former.
