5 If PDT forgave several billion in student debt while running for President in 2020 I'm guessing he would have been impeached for buying votes. potatus does it and it's just hunky dory. Good grief how far our nation has fallen into corruption.

6 Joe Biden, acting in his capacity as "Congress", voted to use taxpayer money yesterday to buy as many votes as possible and so he "forgave" a few billion dollars of federal student loans.

23 Just finished my 1040 and assorted schedules, I noticed something that I'll bet those students with "forgiven" debt don't know: Forgiven debt counts as INCOME for tax purposes. The banks couldn't foreclose on that student debt, but the IRS sure can if you don't pay the taxes on that forgiven debt. And, the banks are going to send 1099s to the debtors and the IRS to let them know about it. This will be a double whammy: if you had 100K forgiven, you add that to your actual income. You will be in a higher tax bracket so you will owe more on the money you did earn + $30,000 or so more on the forgiven debt. We need to tell all those voters who think Biden did them a favor, how badly he screwed them.

80 FDIC limits change for some accounts. If you have a trust account in a bank, pls see the FDIC website. Limits are changing for revokable and irrevokable accounts.

Rather than having a government "Bail Out", the FED has given Banks a "Bail In". You may be asking "What the hell is a 'Bail In'?". You aren't going to like the answer. If a bank starts failing a "Bail In" allows them to seize all of the depositor's funds to fix its liquidity problems. See Banks are too big to fail, but us peasants are just the right size to fail. When you deposit money in a bank, you are actually loaning the bank your money, and you are an unsecured creditor. "But what about the FDIC?" You mean that organization that has no money? That FDIC?

I hate to cast aspersions, but I am going to anyway. I suspect the "disabled son" is not really disabled. We're already in a Cold Civil War, mostly by lawfare. It may never get hot like in the movie. Unlike our first civil war, there aren't clear lines for military action. Instead, the risk is that parts of the country like CA are on an unsustainable trajectory, made worse by millions of Illegal Invaders. They'll collapse, slowly then suddenly.

212 I see that the cdc is now saying they didn't find any link between the rona vax and myocarditis in young people.
    Posted by: SturmToddler

    ********

At initial reading of the Oregon study cited by the CDC, it suffers from three key shortcomings, common in retrospective studies of myocarditis.

    1. Small cohort (1,292) patients. Due to varying clinical definitions and variability in the rigor with which clinicians diagnose myocarditis, the true background prevalence in the general population is not truly known. Estimates vary widely.
    2. Retrospective patient selection based on death certificates, which are generally based on clinical diagnoses. Even if cause of death is determined at autopsy, myocarditis can be missed due to patchy distribution of the inflammation within the myocardium.
    3. Lack of a consistent definition of the condition. Many cases of myocarditis are subclinical, meaning no obvious outward symptoms. Evidence of myocarditis can be found (or missed) by ECG, echo, MRI and biopsy, but the Oregon study doesn't mention which if any of these were done. You can't draw conclusions without a connsistent case definition.

In a post-scarcity civilization (like Star Trek), socialism might actually make a certain amount of sense. All of one's basic needs are met (food, shelter, etc.) so the incentives really are about bettering oneself. You don't have to make money or acquire wealth because you can have just about anything you want. Personal fulfillment may then be the driving motivation of society.

Of course, we are not in a post-scarcity economy and most likely never will be within our lifetimes.

You noticed a couple of days ago when I mentioned 'hostility' as a side effect of the new pneumonia vax when my wife took the shot in early 2020. I did some checking and if rats were the initial study animals they will bare their teeth, which I would assume would be a check-mark for hostility. Now, years later it's no longer listed as a side effect. I guess enough humans have gotten the vax that they can ignore the initial animal study.

After all, what generally accepted metric would you use to measure hostility in humans?

286 Consumer prices rose 3.5% from a year ago in March, more than expected.

The Federal Reserve needs to jack up interest rates some more. Kick in another 1/2% and put a dent in inflation.

Fed is too weak and too late to the inflation fight, as usual, as per the 1970s. Soft landing is a myth. Fed should have kept raising a year ago, but their hands are dictated by Wall Street, Big Banks, and the bond markets. Inflation is stopped by recession, not by tinkering around the edges. Precious metals set to rocket in August. Crypto is not helping the Fed, and they have no idea what to do about a money supply they don't control that grows like seaweed.

The business media and the GQP want us to crap our pants
    and blame Democrats
because prices from February 2024 to March 2024 rose an "estimated" .4% and they are doing the Chicken Little routine because they had "estimated" it would be about .1% lower than that. Talking about Baltimore, I was watching a YT video on the FSK bridge collapse and someone had sent to the host some pictures they had taken of the bridge supports while returning to the harbor from a cruise years ago. Holy Shit. The bridge basically sat on rails, which I suppose allowed for expansion and contraction, but with a heavy enough crane the bridge could be hoisted into the air. Gravity was the only thing securing it to the pilings.

373 Most of the time when you suddenly hit traffic with no obvious cause (accident, road work, etc) on the highway it is because someone did a last second forced lane merge.

This causes the drivers in that lane to slam on their breaks and creates a traffic wave that can last for a long time...

379 #327 The one essential thing to know about OJ's murder trial in 1995. Really, the ONLY thing you need to know in order to understand the acquittal:

The crime occurred in Brentwood. The standard procedure would've been to assign the trial to the Brentwood Division of the LA County Court, which would've resulted in an all white (or nearly all white) jury.

The elected prosecutor, Gil Garcetti, instead decided to assign the case to the Central Los Angeles Division, resulting in an all black jury, or nearly so.. Garcetti had 100% control over this. No-one compelled him to do it, or even pressured him to do it.

Garcetti explained after the trial that he had sent the case to downtown LA because the courthouse there was bigger & could more easily accommodate the press.

The stupidity was self-evident. Everything that followed was a result of that.

Vincent Bugliosi* (the Manson prosecutor) wrote a superb book about the OJ murder trial. What I wrote here wasn't something I dreamed up. Every prosecutor in America recognized Garcetti's unfathomable professional error.

*The Bug was a flaming leftist, but that is of no import to this discussion.

Posted by: fd at April 12, 2024 08:01 AM

    ---------------

Not exactly. You are required to return part of the Obamacare tax credit if your income is greater than you predicted it would be on your application, which you have to make before the coverage year starts. It's tricky for low income people to accurately predict their income that far in advance. Fortunately there is a cap on how much 'overpaid" subsidy the feds can take
    back at tax time.

In part, "Rather than answer Vaughn’s question, Tlaib said she would not talk to Fox News, telling Vaughn that she does not “talk to people that use racist tropes.”

I never got the not “talk(ing) to people that use racist tropes,” in response to legitimate questions. Is Racist Tropes like the former Dog Whistles conservatives were accused of employing? What I know are two things: >One of citizen Tlaib's (married name, btw) brothers' police photos identified him as Caucasian years ago. My family with such photos are also identified as Caucasian. This color thing this country employs, and the manner in which it's employed, gets on my last nerve.

Her family & a family's village "under occupation" in the West Bank was covered a handful of years ago, i.e., +972 Magazine 08/08/2019 article, in part, "The West Bank village of Beit Ur al-Fauqa made headlines over the weekend, after Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib announced she would not accept Israel’s offer for a “humanitarian visit" to see family, particularly her aging grandmother."

    >That is all she has to offer her constituents, imo.
