During an eclipse event at Booker T. Washington High School in Houston, Texas Monday, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee made puzzling remarks about the moon's composition, incorrectly suggesting it was "made up mostly of gases." This statement diverged sharply from established astronomical facts, sparking both amusement and concern over public understanding of basic space science.


The comments were made as Jackson Lee participated in a community event focused on Monday's eclipse, aiming to engage and educate attendees about astronomical phenomena.

Lee, a former member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, described the moon as a "complete rounded circle, which is made up mostly of gases," a description that inaccurately represents the moon's solid, rocky nature.

Abortion is just about the only thing Biden has working for him in his reelection campaign, which explains the wall-to-wall media coverage of former President Donald Trump's grand abortion plan. Trump dropped his ridiculous notion that he could reach a "compromise" with Democrats on the issue, reaching the conclusion that the issue should be left to the states.

This is a five-alarm fire for Democrats and their media allies because every opinion on abortion that isn't legal abortion up to birth with no restrictions is a five-alarm fire for them. Biden and Democratic operatives want to turn this into the biggest issue for 2024 because it is the only issue that Biden even has a pulse on at this point.

If I'm not mistaken, all the gas giants have cores of solid rock, surrounded by oceans of something or other (methane and ammonia, I think?). It's just you have to travel through thousands and thousands of miles of really dense and turbulent gases to get there.

I once had to pick up a future sister in law from airport. She was told to get off the plane and wait there. She did. In the jetway.
(this was pre-cell phone days, and pre 9/11 so security check was at gate, not before.) Of course there was no way I could find her or see her. I called home many times trying to make sure she was even on plane.

There are no public address speakers in jetway, so I was unable to page her or contact her. after about two hours she left to page me!!!

To this day, I am sure my family thinks I go lost somehow.

I never took and SAT. They tried to get me to take it in High School but I refused and the career counselor got made at me. I did take the BTB (now ASVAB) and got an 89 and joined the Army while I was in HS. The CC was really pi$$ed at me then and spent hours trying to talk me out of going in the Army.

Atlanta is the only place that I'm almost certain I saw someone die in a car wreck. Late 90s on the beltline and I was one lane over from the far right where people were merging into traffic, and I looked over at the exact time to see a merging Honda-ish car veering off the road and strike a concrete barricade dead center. 70mph to 0, just crumpling around it. It was horrible.

This would explain why on the Today Show this morning (I walked by the tv as they were talking about it), they said something about Trump's statements regarding abortion, (paraphrasing here), "the key (main? primary? can't recall) issue of the 2024 election". I've been out of the loop for a week or so but immediately noticed the emphasis.

The right needs to keep pushing against illegal immigration and its impact on the economy, harder and harder.

The Democrats will talk about federal laws, changing the Court, etc. It doesn't really matter if they or anyone really believes that any of that will come to pass. It's about fightin' for Women, and preventing White Supremacists from making abortion illegal in every state.

Both parties have used abortion for years as a means to get donation money and votes without really wanting the fight to end; now that social conservatives have won a major victory there's a bit of actual substance to the battle.
