But the design is such that one latch failure will not compromise the load sharing capability of the remaining latches to the extent the cowling would depart. IF it's a design deficiency the FAA will issue an AD to correct it.

However, the latches that secure the cowling to the nacelle are painted with bright orange paint on the latching side so that when you look at them, you can see if they're not secured.

Assuming the flight was continuing on after the initial flight, the mechanic(s) responsible for doing the turnaround inspection should have checked the latches. If the flight was the first one of the day, the ground crew who did the required inspection(s) and the flight crew who did the pre-flight walk around should have noticed they were unlatched.

The human mind is odd. Either you think 'Well, that's kind of unimpressive.' or you go into a certain sensory overload. I remember standing in St Peter's square and for the first time in my life thinking 'It almost feels fake.' The scale of everything was always designed to overawe, but it pushes you quickly into numbness. You go through all of that, mentally overwhelmed by the size of the frickin doors and then you are standing near one of the greatest pieces of artwork ever done by human hands (The Pieta) and you're like, 'Oh, look at that. Pretty.' and then someone says 'Hey, let's go through the Vatican Museum and see the Sistine Ceiling. Get pissed off at all the people taking pictures with cheap, shitty cell phones. THAT was annoying.

They'll have on some "controversial" scientist who has a paper showing puberty blockers are bad for kids, or that men and women are different, or that grooming kids makes them more likely to be gay and on and on.

And you watch this stuff and the take away is *everyone* knew this 20 years ago. Now we have to study it and not at all surprisingly thousands of years of tradition prove to have been true.

Plymouth Rock is kind of unimpressive. Not only is it just a rock housed in a very ornate structure that just makes it look smaller, it has spent centuries being eroded by the tide so it is probably significantly smaller than when the Pilgrims landed.

The Mayflower replica on the other hand is pretty cool as is Plimouth Plantation.

You'll also be able to see all the planets lined up across the sky. From upper left of the eclipsed sun to lower right, you'll have Jupiter, Mercury, then Venus, Saturn and Mars.

Mercury may be hard, as it just at inferior conjunction, and only a small sliver is lit. But you'll see Venus very bright as well as Jupiter, right there in the daylight sky.

Well it's not. They landed first on Clarke's Island which is in Plymouth Bay and named for the mate who took the group on a landing party from the Mayflower. But they decided that the island wasn't sufficient for the colony so the next day they rowed over to what is now Plymouth, landed and started the colony.

Quite a bit is known about the landing from ship's logs and other sources.
