Typical politician/bureaucrats. "You know that thing I did in your mouth? I promise I won't do it again. Swearsies!"

Here's a gentle reminder of the assurances given to us by the Biden administration and Democrats in Congress.

"These resources are absolutely not about increasing audit scrutiny on small businesses or middle-income Americans. As we've been planning, our investment of these enforcement resources is designed around the Department of the Treasury's directive that audit rates will not rise relative to recent years for households making under $400,000," wrote IRS commissioner Charles Rettig in an August 2022 letter to concerned senators.

Janet Yellen was even more adamant. "Contrary to the misinformation from opponents of this legislation, small business or households earning $400,000 per year or less will not see an increase in the chances that they are audited," she wrote in a letter to Rettig.

I'm happy to see that NYC has their law enforcement priorities straight. Now, if they would only arrest, convict and sentence real law breakers.

The NYPD is unleashing barnacles to battle parking pirates.

The department this week said it will begin using “windshield boots” — a 17-pound device that attaches to a vehicle’s windshield like a barnacle and remains there until a scofflaw pays their tickets — on illegally parked trucks.

The contraption is also known as a Barnacle Device for its commercial-grade suction cups that attach to glass with 1,000 pounds of force, making it impossible to remove — like the sticky crustaceans on their oceanic hosts, officials said

40 New product idea: barnacle boot for illegals. It weighs around 500 lbs, and attaches to the illegal’s back. It only detaches when it detects that it was launched from a trebuchet in Texas.

The barnacle also superglues parachute to the back, which can deploy once the barnacle has detached. The deluxe model includes a device that pushes the recipient away from the barnacle in mid-flight. Because this requires pre-launch charging with liquid nitrogen, most barnacles will be the base model.

51 Rental car companies at Oakland International Airport have an important message for anyone returning a car: If you’re going to gas up before dropping your car, watch your belongings when doing so. And, better yet, don’t stop at one of the stations near the airport’s entrance.

The warning comes during a steady uptick over the last two years at gas stations along Hegenberger Road and 98th Avenue, just east of the 880 freeway. Thieves are aggressively targeting rental cars in particular, knowing that the stations, the closest to the airport’s rental car return center off of Doolittle Drive 2 miles away, are frequented by tourists driving vehicles filled with luggage.

It doesn't look to me like it would be anyway hard to defeat the device. Just pierce the seal at the center fold with a sharp knife blade, or drill a hole in the yellow plastic with a cordless drill. And it won't even work on older vehicles with small or sharply-curved windshields.

You have to scan the device with your smart phone, assuming you have a smart phone. Then you pay the extortion via the phone, and they send you an unlock code to punch into the device's key pad. That releases it, and then you drop the device into a special drop box, to get back some of the ransom you paid.

The city (or parking lot) gets more profit per ransom event than by using tow trucks. It's not about freeing up scarce parking spots; it's all about collecting ransom.

Allulose is definitely closer to a sugar taste than monk fruit. Monk fruit is sweet, but it’s got a unique flavor profile. In terms of other sweeteners keto followers like, it doesn’t cause the gastro issues of xylitol, which is good. It’s also not toxic to dogs like xylitol. It doesn’t have the bitterness of stevia, but it’s still just an interesting taste.

Owlbert isn’t really a pet, either. He lives in the wild. But he thinks he wants to be a pet. I love his hoot until he gets inpatient and it turns into this sqwacking noise, close to what they make when they capture a squirrel for sushi, but more sqwackier and faster. On that note, I am headed to bed. Have a great night, everybody!

239 Most of you regular posters know that I have gone away from nursing in ER and that I settled into contracted services in Mental Health in LACO dealing with clients just out of prison or the local jails. Most of these clients are referred to my unit by the court and some of them are...how should I say...not the stellar humans within our society.
So last Friday...one of our clients...high on Meth (presumed)
attacked our office building bearing a knife against our security officer and it escalated into this client breaching our primary front door with a chair through our glass door and then breaching our secondary steel door with windows , destroying our lobby LAPD was so painfully slow.. and I retreated to my office on the second floor and made a plan to ambush his ass with a 3 punch hole puncher and 2 weighted scotch tape dispensers + I had my USMC folder 6 inch blade...but being Commiefornia if I had indeed wasted his pathetic ass...I would be the one going to prison...
Thankfully LAPD showed up and "BEANBAGGED" his ass into submission...though my workplace has been destroyed by this MF and we cany go back to our workplaces .

I am getting another degree in Functional Nutrition, and the way different foods affect our gut biomes, both positively and negatively is fascinating. Especially quantities- like this teaspoon is okay, but once you hit 1/4 cup of food X, lookout! Splenda starts its life as corn and an enzyme turns it into allulose. I am curious to read this study to find out where it starts to mess with gut and why they think it does.

Okay, really going to bed now.

Was robbed at gunpoint by two yutes back in '83 also, couple of doors down from the stoop of my building. The one thing I remember going through my head when he stuck a chrome-plated small caliber revolver in my belly was, 'Please Lord, don't let him sneeze.' An engineer, a priest, and a doctor are trying to enjoy a round of golf. Ahead of them is a group playing so slowly and inexpertly that in frustration the three ask the greens-keeper for an explanation.

“That’s a group of blind firefighters,” they are told. “They lost their sight saving our clubhouse last year, so we let them play for free.”

The priest says, “I will say a prayer for them tonight.”

The doctor says, “Let me ask my ophthalmologist colleagues if anything can be done for them.”

And the engineer says, “Why can’t they play at night?”

Hello, Farmer,

Stirling the great black cat sleeps with me at least part of every night. When he feels me stir, beyond the usual turning over or whatever, he chirps and starts bumping against me.

Yeah, about four hours' sleep, though I had about ninety minutes on Sunday afternoon. I'll go work out lightly in a bit. Tonight I'll try to catch up.

290 I bought another laptop a couple of weeks ago. It's a Dell (refurbished). Nothing fancy. It came with Windows 10 Pro. I just put Linux Mint on it. Before I did that, it was running hot with W10 Pro. Not sure why. Seems to be running better and not as hot with Linux Mint. So now I have 3 laptops (1 Win10 Home, 2 Linux Mint) and a 20+ year old workstation (HP) with Linux Mint on it. I'm looking at getting a Beelink mini pc, at some point. I don't need it, just want it. It's more of a backup to the ancient workstation that will croak at some point. It just keeps chugging along though.

That is freaky. The town I work in for the historical society is named Sterling. Supposedly named after James Sterling.

However the other story is that it was named after Stirling Scotland as some early settlers were from there. Then it was changed to an e because of the connotation of Sterling being of good quality.

The kicker is...I have an old document from ca 1837 where Harrisburg and Chatham agree to merge and become the town of "Stirling".
