Europeans and Deep Staters Scheme to Deliver Weapons to Ukraine, Even If Trump Stops Weapons Deliveries

Once again, the American Deep State and the international foreign policy blob are scheming to take foreign policy into their own hands and reject the policies supported by voters and their duly-elected president.

They're doing this to Save Democracy, you understand.

The U.S. and other Western countries are considering transferring to NATO a U.S.-led multinational group that coordinates the shipment of weapons to Ukraine, one of several new proposals that could help maintain the flow of arms to Kyiv under a second Donald Trump presidency.
During the NATO foreign ministerial meeting in Brussels Wednesday and Thursday, officials are expected to discuss a range of options, including gradually moving the organization -- called the Ukraine Defense Contact Group -- into the alliance's control, according to three European officials and a U.S. official with knowledge of the internal deliberations. The goal would be to finalize the move at the NATO leaders' summit in Washington in July, one of the officials said.

Transferring the group to NATO would be a significant move toward cementing Western support for Ukraine's war for the foreseeable future, amid Europe's fear of the return of Trump to the White House. In the near term, domestic politics in the U.S. and other countries is already threatening to cut off funding to send Kyiv additional weapons.
Formalizing the group within NATO would go a long way toward protecting support for Ukraine from changes in U.S. and Western governments, experts said -- and particularly from Trump.
"There's a feeling among, not the whole group but a part of the NATO group, that thinks it is better to institutionalize the process just in case of a Trump re-election," said Jim Townsend, a former Pentagon and NATO official. "And that's something that the U.S. is going to have to get used to hearing, because that is a fear, and a legitimate one.
"Pulling this under NATO kind of isolates it from a Trump presidency, or even from a U.S. that might get distracted by China and can't keep it going or can't get his own funding act together," he added.

Mitch McConnell, for his part, says he's staying in the Senate to fight for the promiscuous foreign interventions that have served us so well this century.

Despite his plans to step down as party leader, McConnell said, "I'm not leaving the Senate." He added, "I'm particularly involved in actually fighting back against the isolationist movement in my own party and so many others as well."
McConnell mentioned Ukraine's fight against Russia, a cause to which the US has allocated tens of billions of dollars.
"The symbol, lately, is 'are we gonna help Ukraine or not?' And I think it's extremely important that we do that," McConnell said.

His name is Nicholas Moran, and he is a retired Lt Colonel in the US Army. He was a tank man, commanded a troop of M1A1's in the 2003 Iraqi war (OIF).
He has had a couple of videos about the Ukraine war.
First, he noted, don't believe all the videos you see, because of lot of them are tailored propaganda. Alleged tank kills that were not, as the video ends when the tank appears to be hit, yet after the smoke clears, the tank is still moving.
Second, he thinks the Ukraine Army is kind of incompetent. And doesn't think a lot of the Russian Army, either.
His opinion is that a US Army mechanized corp (3 divisions of armor/mechanized cavalry) could run the Russians out of Ukraine (providing they get air superiority, too). He is not ADVOCATING this, but this is what it would take, in his opinion. And it ain't comin'.

He is taking the Ukraine side, but kind of sees it as a stalemate, at best.

Moving this into NATO will remove a US bottleneck to approvals if Trump wins, decides that this game is over, and the DoD and various other agencies don't refuse to comply with the order. If *all* of that happens, then NATO can keep managing weapons deliveries, coordinating export/import licenses, handling the treaty end-use certificate requirements, etc.

But even if ALL of that happens, what is the source of the arms? None of this matters unless there is either of a non-US source for arms in volume, or the US will continue this just under NATO auspices regardless of what official US policy dictates.

Most Soviet Republics don't have a name that'd translate with "the" in a sensible fashion. Their name for their own country is self-referential and for neighboring countries and people's is stuff like "the mountains" or "the forest"(and the mountain people or the forest people).

Picking a name for that region presents the difficulty that Zaprozhie(the core identity), Crimea, western Ukraine, etc. don't have a sensible historical group reference other than "the borderlands"(ie Ukraine).

We would have entered the European war no matter what. We were almost there anyway even without Pearl Harbor, pouring vast amounts of industrial output into the European theater - mostly weapons for the western front and vehicles for the eastern front.

FDR might not have been able to implement the "Europe First" plan, but I doubt the timelines, industrial output or personnel and resource allocation would have changed much.

We would have entered the European war no matter what. We were almost there anyway even without Pearl Harbor, pouring vast amounts of industrial output into the European theater - mostly weapons for the western front and vehicles for the eastern front.

FDR might not have been able to implement the "Europe First" plan, but I doubt the timelines, industrial output or personnel and resource allocation would have changed much.

Yeah, U-Boats would have attacked and sunk more and more US merchant ships and convoy escorts. Accidentally or on purpose. Eventually FDR would have used that as the casus belli.

We were fighting German subs in the west half of the Atlantic and had for some time. We had donated 50 destroyers and escorts for England to use to protect convoys the rest of the way.

When Bismarck sortied into the Atlantic some squadrons of US battleships were ready to engage her if she moved west instead of southeast toward France. Not having to send ships to cover that direction helped the Brits corner and sink the ship.

It took months to organize getting even the initial speedbump troops into Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield in the early 90s and more months to bring in forces able to attack into Iraq and Kuwait.

And Ukraine is a big place. You put a Marine brigade somewhere and it can hold about 3 km of front. The border with Russia is something over thousands of km. These troops could be ignored, since them actually shooting first is an escalation.

Think of it as a POW camp that Russia shells into oblivion every so often until Ukraine sends more.

This has to be the Brits behind this idiocy, they have Crimea on the brain and have since the 1850s.

But is even worse. North of the contact line, and Kharkov is a long front line that the Ukrainians and Russians left mostly vacant. But last month Ukraine sent some "freedom fighters" in and found to their fatal surprise that Russia has quite a lot of soldiers in that region that thrashed them.

If Russia sends these troops forward toward Sumy and north of Kharkov there might be little to stop them.
