Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Europeans and Deep Staters Scheme to Deliver Weapons to Ukraine, Even If Trump Stops Weapons DeliveriesThey're doing this to Save Democracy, you understand. The U.S. and other Western countries are considering transferring to NATO a U.S.-led multinational group that coordinates the shipment of weapons to Ukraine, one of several new proposals that could help maintain the flow of arms to Kyiv under a second Donald Trump presidency. During the NATO foreign ministerial meeting in Brussels Wednesday and Thursday, officials are expected to discuss a range of options, including gradually moving the organization -- called the Ukraine Defense Contact Group -- into the alliance's control, according to three European officials and a U.S. official with knowledge of the internal deliberations. The goal would be to finalize the move at the NATO leaders' summit in Washington in July, one of the officials said. ... Transferring the group to NATO would be a significant move toward cementing Western support for Ukraine's war for the foreseeable future, amid Europe's fear of the return of Trump to the White House. In the near term, domestic politics in the U.S. and other countries is already threatening to cut off funding to send Kyiv additional weapons. Formalizing the group within NATO would go a long way toward protecting support for Ukraine from changes in U.S. and Western governments, experts said -- and particularly from Trump. "There's a feeling among, not the whole group but a part of the NATO group, that thinks it is better to institutionalize the process just in case of a Trump re-election," said Jim Townsend, a former Pentagon and NATO official. "And that's something that the U.S. is going to have to get used to hearing, because that is a fear, and a legitimate one. "Pulling this under NATO kind of isolates it from a Trump presidency, or even from a U.S. that might get distracted by China and can't keep it going or can't get his own funding act together," he added. Mitch McConnell, for his part, says he's staying in the Senate to fight for the promiscuous foreign interventions that have served us so well this century. Despite his plans to step down as party leader, McConnell said, "I'm not leaving the Senate." He added, "I'm particularly involved in actually fighting back against the isolationist movement in my own party and so many others as well." McConnell mentioned Ukraine's fight against Russia, a cause to which the US has allocated tens of billions of dollars. "The symbol, lately, is 'are we gonna help Ukraine or not?' And I think it's extremely important that we do that," McConnell said. Some people thought the "symbol" was whether or not we're going to defend the American border, but you disagreed. ... McConnell said that he finds it "more troublesome" that others appear to be "heading in that direction, making arguments that I think are easily refuted." He added, "We're not losing any of our troops, the Ukrainians are the ones doing the fighting. If the Russians take Ukraine, some NATO country would be next and then we will be right in the middle of it."Ah -- the Domino Theory. It just gets more and more compelling every f*cking decade. Completely coincidentally, Biden just made up a new rule based on his authority as tyrant which purports to guarantee the subversive, traitorous Deep State their jobs for life.

I don't like what Russia is doing in Ukraine. I feel like it makes sense to not allow something like that.
I also don't feel like they should be rewarded for the incursion with any of the land they took. However, while I don't take at face value the Russian story of why I will also say it seems US Intelligence had an outsized influence in that country, and am curious to know why. As is always the case.. it probably would have made more sense to immediately respond with significance to the initial incursion, or at least the lead up to the incursion to show immediate support. We didn't and here we are... now it's sticky if we move. Posted by: Inogame at April 04, 2024 01:37 PM (53oGX) 39

NATO won in 1991. Why the hell does NATO still exist? Mission creep, among other things. There's a guy that puts up videos, etc of the history of various armored equipment, called The Chieftain.
His name is Nicholas Moran, and he is a retired Lt Colonel in the US Army. He was a tank man, commanded a troop of M1A1's in the 2003 Iraqi war (OIF). He has had a couple of videos about the Ukraine war. First, he noted, don't believe all the videos you see, because of lot of them are tailored propaganda. Alleged tank kills that were not, as the video ends when the tank appears to be hit, yet after the smoke clears, the tank is still moving. Second, he thinks the Ukraine Army is kind of incompetent. And doesn't think a lot of the Russian Army, either. His opinion is that a US Army mechanized corp (3 divisions of armor/mechanized cavalry) could run the Russians out of Ukraine (providing they get air superiority, too). He is not ADVOCATING this, but this is what it would take, in his opinion. And it ain't comin'. He is taking the Ukraine side, but kind of sees it as a stalemate, at best. Russia had furiously opposed the project, claiming it targeted Moscow's nuclear arsenal. ... Obama's climbdown is likely to be seen by Russia as a victory for its uncompromising stance. Today, however, analysts pointed out the decision would help Obama secure Moscow's co-operation on a possible new sanctions package against Iran and would further his desire to "reset" relations with Moscow following a dismal period under the Bush administration. >>Maybe Ukraine are the baddies?
Maybe neither Ukraine nor Russia are the ones with most blame. Maybe it's us. This wasn't the start off point but in 2014 we, the west and mostly the US, ran a color revolution in Ukraine and took down the duly elected president of Ukraine who was favorable to an association with Russia over the west and replaced him with a western puppet. This isn't a conspiracy theory, it happened. Not only after and it seems remarkable to me this almost never gets mentioned Putin took Crimea in return. And when I say immediately it happened within days. Neither Obama nor NATO did anything. Putin literally annexed a huge part of Ukraine and the world yawned because it was payback and the west wanted as little focus on the coup as possible. Ukraine has been an issue between Russia and the west for decades although most in the west couldn't even find the place on a map or have any idea what has been going on which is handy for the globalists so they can spin their tails of evil Vlad attacking innocent Ukraine. Putin has held continuous positions as president or prime minister since 1999: as prime minister from 1999 to 2000 and from 2008 to 2012, and as president from 2000 to 2008 and since 2012.[f][7] He is the longest-serving Russian or Soviet leader since Joseph Stalin.

"The symbol, lately, is 'are we gonna help Ukraine or not?'"
The definition of "help" here is critical. Are the Ukrainian people better off with Zelinsky or Putin ruling their country? My guess is that they would be marginally better off with Zelinsky, but I have pretty low confidence in that assessment. Are the Ukrainian people better off with or without an endless war waging in their country. Absolutely, they are better off without the war, by such a large margin that I say it doesn't even matter who their ruler is, just end the war and they are significantly better off. So back to the question, 'are we gonna help Ukraine or not?' To me, help to Ukraine is in NOT prolonging the war. Posted by: mike S at April 04, 2024 02:02 PM (9y4Io) 156

Mike Johnson's Ukraine Trap.
Mike Johnson sure looks like a guy who’s trying to find a path to “yes” on Ukraine aid, if only he could manage it without risking the proverbial guillotine from hardliners in his own caucus. Johnson is in a remarkable bind. He’s under increasing pressure to pass Ukraine aid from the White House and from many in his own party. He knows how dire Ukraine’s need is—and he’s old enough to remember the Afghanistan debacle of a few years ago, how a few days of horrific footage of national collapse can scandalize an apathetic populace into remembering that there are worse things than spending a few billion on defense. He knows who’d take the political blame if that collapse were to repeat itself in Ukraine. ...it’s remarkable to watch Johnson sweat and brainstorm on it in real time. He’s spending the current House recess in his test kitchen, cooking up a wide range of candy coatings to try to make the Ukraine pill go down more sweetly for the MAGA base. Fund aid by seizing Russian assets? Nominally structure aid as a (potentially forgivable, interest-free) loan? Tie it to conservative-friendly policy proposal like easing natural gas exports? There's some talk in this thread about how some people "feel" about Ukraine, and whether they "care" about certain European countries. Could just be sloppy writing, but sloppy writing tends to reflect sloppy thinking. Feeling and caring are not very good bases for foreign policy, particularly policy that could lead to Americans fighting and dying. I'd rather see some unemotional reasoning about American interests.

One of the people who gave a eulogy at one of John McCain's many funerals, this one being the large public one in DC, was Petro Poreshenko, the clown we installed to run Ukraine after the coup.
McCain and Biden with a bit of help from Lyndsey Graham were the point people running official US policy in Ukraine during that time. All 3 were given hero of Ukraine medals by Poreshenko. Somehow, John McCain ended up with a copy of the Steele dossier that he shared with people like Adam Kinzinger before turning it over to the FBI and making it known he did. At that time Steele was also doing reports for the State Department and one of his key contacts was none other than the infamous Victoria Nuland who has caught talking with one of the diplomatic staff in Ukraine discussing who would get what job in the Poreshenko regime after the coup. But what it reflects in Russian and Ukrainian is which preposition you use to say "in Ukraine" - "na Ukraine" implies that Ukraine is a self-contained entity, and "v Ukraine" implies that Ukraine is merely a part of a larger area. NATO marks its 75th birthday as Russia's war in Ukraine gnaws at its unity, 13 hours ago The anniversary comes as the now-32-nation alliance weighs a plan to provide more predictable longer-term military support to Ukraine. Plagued by ammunition shortages, Ukraine this week lowered the military conscription age... “I didn’t want to spoil the birthday party for NATO, but I felt compelled to deliver a sobering message on behalf of Ukrainians about the state of Russian air attacks on my country, destroying our energy system, our economy, killing civilians," said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who attended a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council. Kuleba thanked the allies for agreeing to begin identifying Patriot missile battery stocks that could be sent to Ukraine. The Patriot “is the only system that effectively intercepts ballistic missiles,” he said. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, speaking before meeting with Kuleba, said that “support for Ukraine, the determination of every country represented here at NATO, remains rock solid.” F 'em, imo. officials are expected to discuss a range of options, including gradually moving the organization -- called the Ukraine Defense Contact Group -- into the alliance's control, according to three European officials and a U.S. official with knowledge of the internal deliberations. The goal would be to finalize the move at the NATO leaders' summit in Washington in July, one of the officials said.
++++ Okay. And? Where's the punchline/where's the other shoe? Moving this into NATO will remove a US bottleneck to approvals if Trump wins, decides that this game is over, and the DoD and various other agencies don't refuse to comply with the order. If *all* of that happens, then NATO can keep managing weapons deliveries, coordinating export/import licenses, handling the treaty end-use certificate requirements, etc. But even if ALL of that happens, what is the source of the arms? None of this matters unless there is either of a non-US source for arms in volume, or the US will continue this just under NATO auspices regardless of what official US policy dictates. Forgive me for assuming it's the latter. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at April 04, 2024 02:22 PM (HnUIn) 231

Their name for their own country is self-referential and for neighboring countries and people's is stuff like "the mountains" or "the forest"(and the mountain people or the forest people). I think overall the jig is up and the money-spewing spigot to Ukraine is tapped out. This time last year, Congress would have already shipped another $50B into that cesspool. That seems like it's getting harder and harder to do. So they invent this mischegas.
Posted by: Elric Blade at April 04, 2024 01:38 PM (iFTx/) The hard truth is that money even if allocated won't mean weapons. Nations that have shell stocks that fit the old USSR guns or our guns are resisting exhausting them, or raising prices so that the money isn't going far. These stocks are presumably required to defend their own state. Much of the money in all these bills goes right back to the Defense Industry to restock our own depleted stores. Some of the rest is just paying Ukranian salaries for their government, leaving very little to get to the dude in the trench waiting for the next airstrike or attack. This has to be the Brits behind this idiocy, they have Crimea on the brain and have since the 1850s. But is even worse. North of the contact line, and Kharkov is a long front line that the Ukrainians and Russians left mostly vacant. But last month Ukraine sent some "freedom fighters" in and found to their fatal surprise that Russia has quite a lot of soldiers in that region that thrashed them. If Russia sends these troops forward toward Sumy and north of Kharkov there might be little to stop them. Posted by: Oldcat at April 04, 2024 03:06 PM (eoQWY) 279
Picking a name for that region presents the difficulty that Zaprozhie(the core identity), Crimea, western Ukraine, etc. don't have a sensible historical group reference other than "the borderlands"(ie Ukraine).
Posted by: Red Turban Someguy - The Republic is already dead! at April 04, 2024 02:32 PM (eYoxG) the Ukraine is a geographic region - much like the Midwest or the Great Lakes regions are in the US. The official country name is Ukraine. I suppose that in Soviet days the SSR name was also Ukraine. Posted by: Oldcat at April 04, 2024 03:10 PM (eoQWY) 280

Isi it fair to point out the following?
1) Ukraine is in Europe. 2) Europe is also in Europe. 3) Europe has an economy about the same size as the United States. 4) Europe should lead the response in Ukraine. 5) "Leading" means paying for it and supplying most of the weapons. I don't see a problem here - Europe can do whatever it likes. I hope they do support Ukraine. What I take issue with is they stepping back, or shrugging, and expecting us to carry most of the load. And when or if we don't get furious with us for not doing the job they should have been doing all along. Posted by: El Mariachi Attorney at Law at April 04, 2024 03:31 PM (nLFEI) 282

US weapons or EU weapons? TX, NM, and AZ need those 30 year old Bradleys for the illegal aliens more than Ukraine needs them for the Russians. If the EU says they can't afford that, then they should cut off welfare for their illegal aliens and spend that on guns. If they still whine, explain the most powerful weapon the US can wield against Russia is oil and Biden is the one tying that up.

Meanwhile the Euro-Weenies and Deep Creep States demand we all must surrender our Privately owned Guns to make the world safer for them
