Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | THE MORNING RANT: Buck Shots – 4/08/2024The most serious problem in any organization is the one that cannot be discussed.I think about this quote and how applicable it is in various aspects of life, be it personal, professional, or political. One example that is gnawing at me is the ad campaigns I am seeing imploring people to “stand up to” anti-Jewish hatred and anti-Asian hatred, but lacking is a concomitant acknowledgement of who is doing the hating and discriminating. It is implied that the problem is people like “Roscoe in Arkansas,” when in real life the problem is Ivy League administrators, elected Democrats, and a diverse coalition of bigots who are very unlike Roscoe. (Roscoe in Arkansas is a hypothetical rural conservative who was offered up by polite conservatives a few months ago as being the problematic right-wing equivalent of all the anti-semites that are part of the mainstream left.) How are we supposed to “stand up to” these ethnic hatreds if we cannot discuss who the haters are that we’re standing up to? Roscoe is a strawman, and if he is the only one that we’re allowed to “stand up to,” then we are not actually interested in standing up to these ethnic hatreds at all. Seinfeld isn’t the only celeb who grew up in Massapequa back in the day. It’s also home to Alec Baldwin and his brothers, Ron Kovic of “Born on the Fourth of July” and Twisted Sister’s Dee Snyder. How many Baldwin brothers are there? Considering the ugly news that Alec Baldwin keeps making, I don’t blame his brothers Ron Kovic and Dee Snyder for pursuing their careers using different last names. I think it's been decades since the nominal president had any real, lasting authority. The so-called deep state has obviously taken over. The president is really just the figurehead for whichever named party wins an election. That the parties are more or less the same now probably helps the actual movers and shakers behind the scenes keep their positions.

The Left has been brilliant in creating the fighting arena that the rest of us fight in. They create the boundaries, they decide what words can be used and what they mean, and they use it all to their advantage. The perception of who is racist and what is hate is, is already in the public conciousness so there is no way to even talk about several adjacent subjects. In the end there will be violence as logic and reason aren't allowed. Leaves little choice. Posted by: OneEyedJack at April 08, 2024 11:43 AM (FCbAQ) 189

Diamonds are diamonds because of the structure and geometry the carbon atoms are in. Carbon likes to form two dimensional sheets. In diamond, it is forced into a... was that Sphaerlite(sp?) three dimensional structure that is extraordinarily strong and rigid.

--- Ah, the "just one more surrender and then we win" tactic? As noted the other day, this points to the real anger of Rove et al., not only did Trump win the nomination against all their best efforts--twice!-- he is now purging the remaining agent saboteurs from the party. 1) you ain't very good at your job if the most hated politician in America beats you twice. 2) they consoled themselves in 2016 knowing they had ample open and sleeper agents to stymie him (until their rightful return to power) 200+ gone from the RNC 50+ with seniority resigned in 2018; more since. Almost all who voted to impeach him lost; and Romney isn't seeking reelection. No one seeks their endorsement or reads their columns. Flounce out, you fat bitch, flounce. (Example: “My childhood heroes were my parents, Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher.” An oxford comma inserted after “Reagan” would have made clear that my parents are not actually Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher
A full colon after "parents" would be more clear, and would eliminate the need for an Oxford comma. FJB Posted by: jbspry at April 08, 2024 12:28 PM (FWq7Q) 330

I have had to defend my use of the Oxford comma many times. As an Data Scientist I used set theory a lot. Subtle things like a comma being present or missing can change the entire math, which translates to logic, which becomes the behavior of the software.
