Haunted Dolls and Monster Puppets Cafe

thedolomitesitaly.jpg
The Dolomites, looking particularly stabby
by Ryan Resatka

I omitted the link to this yesterday: "Haunted doll" pranks.

Here's a different macabre prank. Might be fake. I mean, every prank on the internet is 80% likely to be fake.

Cliffside temple-tombs at Kaunos, Turkey.

Cool diving video.

Dog wants to protect the children in Juraissic Park from the raptor.

On the other hand, this dog wants to be a raptor.

This cat missing her front two legs took inspiration from raptors and now just bounces around on her two back legs. You'd barely know she had a disability.

Fun with ropes. No, the other kind of fun with ropes.

I've been watching this over and over. I think it's probably some kind of trick, with a few frames of video cut out, but here, you deal with it. When does player number 23 pass the ball? I guess it's just a quick bounce pass which somehow happened so quickly the video didn't catch it. I think the Spanish title is "a glitch in the Matrix."

Shelter dog gets adopted and reaches out to shake one of the staffer's hand.

A cautious dog moves down the hill gingerly.

Peekaboo pupper.

Ding-dog doggo.

Doctor, doctor, I keep feeling something crawling all over me.

Easter in Sicily.

I do not think clowns are scary.

What I do find scary is gigantic puppets, especially when they're part of some ancient carnevale.

"We're looking for the Partridge Family on vinyl...?"

I would gladly pay 100 gold pieces for your fire sword, Good Merchant.

'I GOTCHA BROTHER!' Video shows dramatic rescue of hiker clinging to side of California cliff

SONOMA COUNTY, Calif. - [Monday] evening at around 7:40 PM, Henry-1 was requested by the Southern Marin Fire District for a subject who had fallen from a cliff in the area of the Alexander Battery in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

The subject was approximately 50-60 feet down from the trail and was clinging to the gravel rock face. Henry-1 arrived and observed the subject through the helicopter’s thermal imaging camera.

Henry-1 landed nearby and the helicopter was configured for a long line rescue. The Tactical Flight Officer (TFO) was flown to the victim and placed him into a rescue device. The victim and TFO were flown to the top of the cliff where the victim was delivered to fire personnel for medical evaluation.

46 On This Day in 2019:

---------------------------
April 2, 2019
CNN anchor Christiane Amanpour asked former FBI director James Comey on Tuesday if he should've restricted people from saying "lock her up" because the phrase amounts to "hate speech."

Comey asserted during the interview that President Donald Trump targets private citizens with investigations and the power of the executive, citing Trump "calling for the locking up of his political opponents, including people like me."

Amanpour seized on Comey's use of the phrase "locking up," and wondered if the FBI should censor the use of "lock her up" in reference to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

---------------------------

Imagine "calling for" the locking up of political opponents. Stars and garters the Left was so worried for Our Democracy, weren't they.

Saw in an earlier thread there was some calendar discussion.

There is calendar that is better than Gregorian, it's known as the Revised Julian Calendar. Milankovitch, of Milankovitch cycle fame first devised. It uses a 900 year, rather than 400 yr cycle.

It would track with the Gregorian until around the year 2800.

The trouble with the Gregorian and even the Revised Julian is they assume a fixed tropical year. This is not the case due to long term orbital cycles of the Erf, cycles on 10,000s to 100,000s of years time frame.

Currently the tropical year is getting shorter, while the mean solar day is getting longer.

At any rate, an interesting observational calendar modification that would fix this over maybe 10,000 years:

Skip the leap year in 3200, then continue as normal to the year 4000, with a leap year there. Thereafter, switch to 500 year, rather than 400 year century leap cycle. That is, 4500, 5000, 5500 would be leap years, all other centuries not.

In 2019/2020, Adam Schiff paid Loren Merchan's firm $4 million--almost 40% of Schiff's total disbursements that cycle. At the same time, Schiff was in cahoots with Michael Cohen to take down Donald Trump.

Now Loren's daddy-judge not only is allowing Cohen to testify in "hush money" trial next month (Trump opposes), Judge Juan Merchan issued a gag order last week banning Trump from making critical public statements about Cohen.

Loren Merchan is 34, she's not a child. She runs a very lucrative political firm that has made tens of millions off Trump's biggest political foes.

Since 2019, Adam Schiff has paid her company six-figures a month including during the time he led the impeachment against Trump and met several times with Michael Cohen.

Merchan should have recused. He refused to do so and, in the process, put himself and his daughter under much-deserved scrutiny.

Nothing close to an "attack."

93 I liked the duck video. I've always thought a couple call ducks would be great pets. This brings up the story behind the Duck Walk at The Peabody Hotel in Memphis. The owner and his hunting buddy had just returned from a trip to the blind and were in the lounge getting tuned up. One still had two call ducks in his gear. These are very small ducks, about half the size of a Mallard, and were used as decoys. They let them run around the lounge and then came up with the idea of the duck walk.Over the years, The Peabody provided a suite and a wrangler for the ducks.

In TX you don't show an ID to register anyway. You go to a local library, fill out a registration card the size of a postcard, drop in in the mail. Boom. Registration.

Not if you couple it with serious fines and jailtime for employing illegal aliens and renting to illegal aliens. How do illegals get to have a car? New voter registration without a photo ID requires only the last 4 numbers of a social security number. So far over 200,000 new voters using this process have registered in Texas alone.

They are mostly illegals, obviously, and it's happening in a number of states.

How will billions of remittances make it to Guatemala in Cash by the way?
Posted by: Montec at April 02, 2024 09:07 PM (hxe/1)

This neat invention called airplanes.

Don't kid yourself.

If there is a will, there is a way. You can imagine one Guatamalan saying "Hey, I gotta make a trip down to Guatamala City in the next week. Instead of having the feds steal 50% of your money, I'll take it in cash for you guys." So a group of people have one person take down their money, getting around the 50% remittance steal.

You honestly don't think people will think of things like that to get around attempts to steal money by legal means?

Um...not that business. I am thinking businesses that remit money. (Western Union comes to mind. There might be others.)

Besides, the hotels you cite should be forced to use things like eVerify anyway. They hire people that don't work here? Well, make that decision very unprofitable.

But taxing remittances? Oh, because ONLY illegals remit money, right? (I'm not into screwing legal, naturalized citizens, either.)

I detest these generational labels as they are a symptom of how Americans are disgusted with the idea of treating people as individuals. That being said, those who remember how things were before the Internet and use the Internet now with a bit of skepticism will take over the whole damn world if, say, an EMP crippled all the technology. How do remittances typicall occur? through wire services, right? Or the Internet these days...

In what world do you think the government will say "We are stealing 50% of your money because you are remitting it back home" and people will just shrug and say, "Oh OK"? That money will instead make its way back home in untraceable cash one way or another. And, in what world are Customs inspections 100% foolproof?

I can see your point, so I'll zig this way and add a zag.

For PENALTY FREE remittances, set up the system to require a scan of a valid Green Card's Bar Code.

And like magic, the entire amount transmits, free and clear.

Of course, said bar code scan being validated against the Legal Resident Alien database, updated every Midnight, D.C. time.

Perfect? No. Doable. Ask our embedded I.T. Boffins. Some of them could likely set it up in a day.

In fact, to Jim's point...hell, have any illegal trying to remit anything busted immediately. You find out who hired them, and you do them worse.

Yep. Redefine the meaning of citizenship so that goes away. And catch people overstaying/misusing their visas by having exit visas. (Many countries I have been to check your passport coming AND going - why not us?) Build a nice shiny wall that funnels people to Ports of Entry. Construct a system of immigration that benefits both sides. (We have 8% unemployment? Sorry. You better be a doc or an engineer if you want to TRY to become a citizen. We have 2% unemployment? OK, we can afford to let more in. But that drops as unemployment rises.)

And put a cap on remittances, so the one legal guy in the family cannot remit for all the wetbacks. Size of cap? Ten percent of one's taxable income in the preceding year. No pay income tax? No remittance for you.

224 210 Monetary Inflation should be under 1%. At 1% prices would double in the average lifetime. Not good but tolerable. To have prices double in under a decade is the death of countries.

I am honestly surprised that we are as well off as a nation as we still are.

Prices doubling in an average lifetime is not bad at all. You aren't going to eliminate inflation forever. Besides, if you want to tame it to the maximum, ensure your economy spends money on 1) a good or 2) a service to the max extent possible. 3) the government is neither 1) nor 2) so this should be spent on very sparingly.

All well and good, but why are they here to begin with, at all. Before we get to remittances, and trying to screw people who play by the rules, I want to know why illegal immigrants are working in the first place and what businesses they work for, who are breaking our labor laws with reckless abandon.

I want their lives to so suck here that they HAVE to go home.

227 The idea behind fiat money, besides the inevitable theft by the government, is that the supply of money needs to keep pace with the creation of goods and the expansion of the population even if you don't discover any new gold or silver deposits. Otherwise productivity stagnates for want of currency and/or you get deflation.

228 Oh, by the way, AOP...visiting Canada is nice an all, but what's the deal with paying GST on postage stamps? Hell, WE don't even do that here.

Why people think "fiat money" is bad I have no idea. Money is a medium of exchange. Nothing more, nothing less. It is not a store of value. If you want that, start investing.
